That's what I said. We want Pompey to lose. Or failing that a draw. We do not want them getting 3 points next week.Fortune 82nd Minute said:
Assuming Portsmouth lose to Ipswich, wouldn't it be better for Leicester to win their game at Portsmouth?golfaddick said:
Pompey play Leicester next week when we play Sheff Wed. They also play their game in hand (against Ipswich) this coming Tuesday.ForeverAddickted said:mendonca said:We'll be okay, have you seen Portsmouth's run-in?
😮Beating Middlesbrough isn't the end of the world, given how they've fallen off a cliff with their promotion pushBut just need to hope that this is more of a flash in the pan for Portsmouth rather than rejuvination
If we lose next Sat just hope to God that Pompey dont beat Leicester otherwise we will be in big trouble.
And Oxford's last 2 matches are against Sheff Wed & Millwall.
We still need 3 teams to finish below us.1 -

They beat Watford today, Pompey won at Boro. It's not beyond the realms of possibility that Oxford could beat one of Derby, Wrexham or Millwall especially if the latter are already confirmed in the play offs and rest players or don't bust a gut. I don't think it's likely and I think we will be ok but I certainly wouldn't rule anything out.fenaddick said:
If we presume they beat Wednesday which of Derby, Wrexham or Millwall do you think they beat?DamoNorthStand said:Charlton and on said:4 to go, 5 above the drop. Highly unlikely Oxford win 50% of their games. Even more unlikely that Leicester win 75%.
We should still get a couple more points too. You get points in unexpected places in football and sometimes lose when you thought you might win.
I hope the players have more character than the bed wetters on here.Don’t agree with this part. Think they are more than capable of thatIts the Championship, such an unpredictable Division and is amusing that people are talking about the realms of possibility that our rivals could get results against high fliers... But we cant suddenly get a similar result ourselves against Ipswich, Hull or Swansea... We're seeing the typical over-reaction from the usuals from this season, that those below us will suddenly put in the sort of form that should have seen them fighting for the title, whilst its all over for us.2 -
We might do... Its not beyond the realms of possibility, simply because the Championship is impossible to predictllama_child_21cws said:We are not going down1 -
I agree, and I don't think we go down. I'm replying to FA's point that our rivals need to find form that would have them challenging, when one of them has already found itfenaddick said:

We have scored more than one goal in a match four times in the league this season. Absolutely appalling. I think we will get one more point this season. Whether that will be enough I don’t know.1
-
All games against Sheffield Wednesday are tricky when you HAVE to win them. A team with nothing to lose, and great fighting spirit.
Nobody is finding it easy to beat them.12 -
Thank goodness we’re away next week, away form will be needed to get us out of this SHIT,,,🤦
we’re just useless at home 😫1 -
Millwall can be depended on to put their 2nd time out against Oxford to rest players, if they are guaranteed to be in the playoffs.Hope Coady is fit enough to support defence in the run off, we may just scramble enough points.Think we will stay up just, but Charlton & Nathan Jones are really making Charlton supporters suffer.2
-
Also a different type of away performance than when we’ve been good. We’ve succeeded when defending in a low block and getting a goal on the counter. Can’t see that being the game plan next weekkillerandflash said:All games against Sheffield Wednesday are tricky when you HAVE to win them. A team with nothing to lose, and great fighting spirit.

Jones needs to go full out attacking next week instead of his usual tactic of trying to nick a goal or else we’ll lose.3

You’ve just got to stay positive, anything else will drive you insane,,,FUCKING CHARLTON…🤦0

We love ending streaks like this.
If we go down, from the position we were in, it will be inexcusable.
Avoiding defeats/draws and getting wins in those games against the likes of Blackburn, Oxford and especially Pompey would have looked a lot better right now.7 -
I think what pisses me off the most is how non-chalant we look.
Don't look nervous, don't look game. Playing like it's a friendly.
Preston have absolutely nothing to play for, just pride, and looked far hungrier.13 -
JONES YOUR OBSESSION WITH CAMPBELL is costing us game after game … after a bright 20 mins once again we went back to don’t care less Campbell .. why keep taking chambers of yo life Campbell back only to take Campbell off ?????? Totally at fault for their second yes Fullah was to weak lost the ball but Campbell does not read the game and completely let his name number 44 free .. the worst of it was him
strolling back letting his teammates try to cover his mistake shocking .. enough enough
The game it self we had no luck .. ball
of inside of post to keeper and defender clearance hitting his own post and going out .. we deserved a point to be honest .. Jones got subs wrong Carey should have gone instead of Costello and Campbell instead of Chambers who most likey would have stopped the second goal or at least held the bloke up and forced him to pass the ball .. being a defender.. Fav had a very good game but another defeat at home and still two points from safety .. next week starts for Godden and Kelman and Knibbs if fit

Wot? - Nearly every chance we created in the first half came from TCValiantphil said:Yet another pony team comes to The Valley and wins. Glad the last game is on TV, so I don’t have to sit through any more dross football at our home ground. If we can see it, surely NJ can.Don’t start TC
Always start Godden if possible
Carey is invisible, don’t bother.Play to go forward - not sideways and back
Don’t take too many touches - gamble.Practice corners and FK - we are awful.Better to bring him on once we are (inevitably) in trouble, rather those (just about) squad players that pose no threat.2 -
I know today was annoying but next match we go away to a dreadful Wednesday side. Oxford have to go away to a good Derby side and Portsmouth have Ipswich and then Leicester. It's entirely possible based on those games that we could end next week 8 points clear with 3 games to go, it's still very much in our hands. Oxford have only won more than one game in a row once this season and that was Portsmouth's first win in 9. Sometimes the results fall in a way on the day that feels pretty horrendous but a 5 point gap is pretty substantial at this stage.5
-
You look at that 11 that started today, with hardly an injury in the squad , and it’s so league one as to be untrue .6

I hate this "We only need draws" attitude.
It's such a negative approach.
I said weeks ago that we weren't safe and that was rammed home in no uncertain fashion today.
And WTF was that performance today all about?
Shape? Tactics?

We have a championship back 3 and league one everything else. Don’t really know where the next 3 points are coming from and really don’t want it to be a last day job against Swansea.Just lack so much quality in the final third and Preston had it, once again we were punished by that, how many times has that happened this season?7
-
It was only really Doherty and TC that performed well today.
Personally, I think that, even if we lose to Wednesday next week, we're safe as I don't see either Oxford United or Leicester passing us.
Assuming Oxford beat Wednesday, they then need to get 2+ points from Derby away, Wrexham at home and Millwall away.
Leicester need 8+ points, meaning they will need to beat one of either Hull or Millwall (or at worst draw with both) at home. It helps that they have both Blackburn and Pompey away as, should they win both of those, they're taking points away from two teams that are currently below us. Pompey and Blackburn also both have tough runs.

Forget Leicester - that was the only bright spot from today. At least we know for sure now it’s unlikely to be 2 out the current bottom three able to catch usCharlton and on said:4 to go, 5 above the drop. Highly unlikely Oxford win 50% of their games. Even more unlikely that Leicester win 75%.

Really frustrating. I would’ve taken a point as well before the game. If we are in this division next year then we absolutely cannot have any of the current midfield or forward players starting. They’re simply not good enough at this level. Dykes is the most effective, but he’s not officially contracted beyond the end of the season. All of Kelman, Leaburn, TC, Carey, Doc, JRC, Knibbs, Coventry aren’t up to it, and as for those out on loan, they’re not going to come back and make a difference. Some of them can be squad players, but we need a big upgrade on all of them if we’re able to establish ourselves as a team competitive at this level
We’re clearly incapable with the ball, so if Jones has any sense about these final 4 games, he’ll be parking the bus. It will be ugly and frustrating, but I’d rather grind out 4 draws than try and watch this team attempt to pick up a win, we just can’t do it3 -
Relegation odds now 25s from 200-11

Personally think chambers had his best game for us today. Linked up really nicely with TC and generally made some good passes and was good defensively.5
-
Nathan Jones admitted Charlton’s lack of “killer instinct” is a major concern after they lost 2-1 to Preston at The ValleyYet you leave two goalscorers in the bench !!!If Godden and Kelman been on from the start we would have won that game7
-
This is such an interesting stat given at the start of the season I would have expected the polar opposite with it being built around being hard to beat at home and poor away from.Er_Be_Ab_Pl_Wo_Wo_Ch said:Last 6 homes - W1 D0 L5

I hope NJ and the team are not telling themselves everything is alright as some on here are as that is the sure way to sleepwalk to relegation.4
