  • It's all very upsetting, have seen Welling play there several times and have gone there when I've been without another game to go to. Lovely clubhouse and always very welcoming.

Such a shame. I'm from East Grinstead originally so used to watch East Grinstead Town when Charlton weren't playing. Seen some great games vs VCD. Such a great little ground too.

That is sad,  it will happen to more and more clubs . As property developers buy up land most likely for land banking.
It because we allow over seas purchasers unlimited accesses to property purchasing, this is big factor in driving up land prices.

Don’t see how they can build on it it’s only a lease so more than likely the using it for something else

    Really sad.
Opposite my old school St Joseph’s, watched many a game there, pretty sure Bruv played there.
Last visit was watching our women, I loved going there when I was over…….like going back in time.

I have been told that the owner put together a proposal with community benefits including a small swimming pool and an upgraded UEFA A standard pitch and a single stand.

It depended on Charlton Women continuing to play there but this couldn't happen.

Played there in the late 80's & early 90's (not for VCD I may add).

Shame to see it go.......but houses (if that is what the land will he used for) are desperately needed.
Yeah, let’s build them everywhere and fill them with fat slobs who do no sport. You got to play there, so should coming generations.

    RIP VCD. Sad news.

Always sad to see grounds close, and both my sons played there when in the Schools District side, more than 20 years ago.
Was a great upgrade from most grounds, had a couple of players in our adult side who played for VCD, preferred it to Phoenix Sports personally.
