  • It's all very upsetting, have seen Welling play there several times and have gone there when I've been without another game to go to. Lovely clubhouse and always very welcoming.

Such a shame. I'm from East Grinstead originally so used to watch East Grinstead Town when Charlton weren't playing. Seen some great games vs VCD. Such a great little ground too.

That is sad,  it will happen to more and more clubs . As property developers buy up land most likely for land banking.
It because we allow over seas purchasers unlimited accesses to property purchasing, this is big factor in driving up land prices.

Don’t see how they can build on it it’s only a lease so more than likely the using it for something else

    Really sad.
Opposite my old school St Joseph’s, watched many a game there, pretty sure Bruv played there.
Last visit was watching our women, I loved going there when I was over…….like going back in time.

I have been told that the owner put together a proposal with community benefits including a small swimming pool and an upgraded UEFA A standard pitch and a single stand.

It depended on Charlton Women continuing to play there but this couldn't happen.

Played there in the late 80's & early 90's (not for VCD I may add).

Shame to see it go.......but houses (if that is what the land will he used for) are desperately needed.
Yeah, let’s build them everywhere and fill them with fat slobs who do no sport. You got to play there, so should coming generations.

    RIP VCD. Sad news.

Always sad to see grounds close, and both my sons played there when in the Schools District side, more than 20 years ago.
Was a great upgrade from most grounds, had a couple of players in our adult side who played for VCD, preferred it to Phoenix Sports personally.

Seems like any club with “dons” in their name are run by people who have little care for any kind of football heritage.

I understand there are non football reasons why VCD and the landlord fell out.

At least a different club moving in proves that there were no plans to build houses on the pitch.

Why are SE Dons getting the grief here?

is it not an issue between VCD and the ground owner?

A sad state of affairs for a club like VCD and now will await the full story to be revealed in what happened and why SE Dons have now moved in.

Money would be my educated opinion on this.

How would you feel if some one moved in to the valley after duchatelet kicked us out?

"We were never shy about our ambition to bring SE Dons back home to South East London."

Well go and play in SE London then.

There are suspicions in some quarters that SE Dons offered the landlord more money and that's why VCD got kicked out. It seems only fair to point out that the person behind SE Dons has denied this, saying that VCD losing the lease was nothing to do with them and they've just taken up the vacated space. Hard to tell from outside, of course.

    What level were VCD at?

Would SE Dons be able to afford much higher rent than VCD?

Would have been same level now as VCD got relegated and Se Dons got promoted.

SE Dons being a YouTube team have better sponsorship so deeper pockets. They had a big budget for their league last season.

They all think they’re proper big time at SE Dons, really unlikeable outfit.

Just find the whole SE Dons thing a bit cringe. Of course they're going to romp county leagues when they've got a squad of players that should be playing a lot higher.

Be interesting to see if they get to Isthmian level.

    This stinks to high heaven.
Doesn't the snake have something to do with SE Dons too or did I dream that?
