  • I haven't checked but I don't think anybody has trounced Sheff  Wednesday this season. For the most part they seem to have been competitive in games and often lose by just the odd goal.
With that in mind I think  it will be a real battle today.
I hope we don't resemble the team that played WBA when they were on their appalling run but I suspect we won't take the game to Wednesday. Which is a shame because I think with WBA it al,owed them to settle their nerves and grow in confidence.
In the end today  it may boil down to who wants it most.
I wouldn't like to predict the outcome, but even if we lose I don’t think it's all over for us.

We're better away, Wednesday are worse at home. Not going to be a classic but I'm confident we'll get the 3 points today and be realistically safe.

    Shitting it!

Might be the beers last night. Might be the curry. But I'm blaming it on nerves. Come on Charlton let's get this over the line.

It’s already written that Wednesday get their first home win today it’s just the Charlton way !! Squeaky bum time but I still think we are ok purely because I just can’t see all 4 teams below us getting enough points to relegate us. Thank god for our early season points and a massive squad upgrade needed to avoid relegation next season.
  • Charlton unbeaten in 6 away.

Sheff Wed home league results after Jan 1st 2025 ...

Hopefully Godden, Coady, Dykes all start. Maybe Berry. Experience needed today.
    Only if it's Mary Berry

Yeah, I'm reluctant on this one. If our coaching team think this is a game we'll have time on the ball, I can see him coming in.

I’ve never been fighting in trenches or on a beach in Normandy but anyone who played football with me knows I was always positive and gave 100%

I find it impossible to be positive about this current team however. It’s almost like watching 11 versions of myself on the pitch: defending,  tackling and getting rid of the ball anyway how, with the occasional decent pass on the ground to another midfielder. It’s bloody awful to watch.

I can’t believe the level of complacency by so many lifers, and blindness to our manager's ineptitude at any non defensive strategy.

I believe that Portsmouth,  Blackburn and West Brom ( who won’t get any points deduction this season)will overtake us.

If us and Oxford both beat Sheffield Wednesday  then they will still be 5 points behind us with 3 games to play. I believe they will beat Wrexham though. Then on the last game of the season they go to bloody Millwall ( much like Barnsley away to Brentford in 2020), a team who may not be able to get top two anymore and never ever do us any favours. We will need at LEAST a point at Swansea.

If I sound over pessimistic then you clearly weren’t as traumatised by our 2020 relegation as I was. I can see us again desperately playing away to a team all in white in the last game, like a reoccurring nightmare. Even winning today won’t ease my fears and I think we'll struggle to get a draw today anyway.

I think you are being really hard on yourself. Surely you weren't that bad 😆

The thing is Wednesday won't have any nerves as they have nothing to lose. I suspect the way to approach this is the same way we have approached recent away games and be dour and safe but maintain a goal threat. We have been slipping up at home when we are trying harder to beat teams and are therefore more open. I think Wednesday may see this as their best opportunity for a win so may be a bit more open. I'm hopig so anyway as win today, hat will make us safe.......probably.

Wednesday certainly won't roll over for us - in the midst of their wretched season they can cheerfully point to a 'never say die' attitude.
We have a certain fear/ lack of composure which has cost us in recent games. Today we need to score first and believe. Surrendering the incentive and allowing Wednesday to swamp us would be dreadful. But we need to win. Come what may. Over to you Jonesy.

We’ve got more to lose than them and that does worry me, given our recent firm.

If no Clarke then I’m sure NJ will start Burke over the BFG from Kenya but what’s the odds on him pulling up injured early on ?  Although it’s a risk I would start with our BFG

Someone mentioned Berry to start,  hopefully they meant Les Berry.
or Chuck would do duck stepping up the wing!

I hope someone has taken up a big bag of Brown envelopes to encourage the Massive to take a chilled approach to todays game.
