Because it takes a lot of work and planning to move a fixture. They get out the initial batch and then work to get up to New Year out before the season starts.Algarveaddick said:

- The opening weekend of EFL fixtures across the Championship, League One and League Two will be live on Sky Sports and Sky Sports+ and confirmed on EFL Fixture Release Day.
- By July 2nd, 2026, selections will be announced in respect of all live broadcast matches to be played before the end of September 2026.
- By July 31st, 2026, selections will be confirmed in respect of all live broadcast matches to be played up to, and including, the weekend of January 8th-11th, 2027.
- By November 6th, 2026, selections shall be announced in respect of all matches to be played up to, and including, the midweek of March 2nd-3rd, 2027.
This once again provides fans and clubs up to five months’ notice. By selecting TV picks early and giving much more notice, fans will be able to plan with certainty when making travel and any hotel arrangements.
- Selections for matches scheduled for the weekend of March 5th-8th, 2027 will be announced by February 5th, 2027, followed by weekly announcements looking four-weeks ahead. (For example, the weekend of March 12th-15th, 2027 will be announced by Friday, February 12th, 2027).
- Selections for matches scheduled for the penultimate weekend of the regular season will be announced three weeks in advance.
- Selections for matches scheduled for the final weekend of the regular season will be announced the week prior.
First batch announced July 2, second batch July 31. Why? Why not announce them all on July 2nd? The fixtures are all out and set, so we know who is playing who and when. No matches have been played by then - no pattern has been set - so they are not waiting to see who is the surprise package doing better than expected, or who is unexpectedly strugging, and maybe bung them on a few more times than they would normally due to increased interest - as will undoubtedly happen when the November 6 selection is revealed.
Also the "selection" for last game of the season... they are all going to be on one way or another aren't they? So all we need to know is the KO time, surely?
Believe it or not, this is to actually helped the supporters, unlike the PL who do nothing like this for TV games1 -

Your assumption is correct and we will know the KO time. The selection is purely for what Clive was talking about, which channel will have which gameAlgarveaddick said:

I appreciate that the notice period is much better than the top clubs get, Johnny, and I am aware that some planning goes into shuffling fixtures about, but other than getting the police to agree I don't see it being that complicated. Most of the heavy lifting has been done by the fixtures computer (i.e. avoiding teams near each other playing at home on the same day) by the time they look at TV games. And surely planning to the end of December on July 2nd would help supporters even more, would it not?JohnnyH2 said:

If they can manage to plan said PL fixtures at much shorter notice, why can't they plan EFL ones three/four months ahead?
Fixtures come out on June 25th, a week later they will have the first eight week's TV fixtures sorted, then it takes them virtually another month to work out the following fourteen weeks or so? I still think it can be done if the will is there.

Are the red button games not available to any Sky subscriber then? I hadn't taken that into account if that is the case. The fact remains that all that matters to the travelling fan is the KO time, regardless of whether Sky are showing it.0 -

They are but there are restrictions on what platform you can use.
You can watch the red button games on a Sky box, obviously, but you can't watch them on the Sky Go app if you're on a mobile or tablet - you have to use the Sky Sports app.
It also means you can't watch the red button games on a laptop/PC.1 -
Ah right - thanks for that. I have Now TV so it's not an issue.Briston_Addick said:Algarveaddick said:Briston_Addick said:
