    Sadly I'm going to miss this. I've already taken six trains and walked 10,000 steps to see the David Bowie 'You're not alone' exhibition at The Lightroom, and I'm not sure my hips will cope with another six trains and another 10,000 steps. The joys of being almost 70 :-(

    For what it's worth, I think we might sneak an unexpected draw tonight. I can't remember the opposition, but the last time we played well was when Collins came on as sub, in about the 14th minute, in a match at The Valley. I like the way he refuses to lump it long, and that seems to rub off on the other players.

    I actually think that given how good Ipswich are on the ball and the fact they need to get a win given how hard Millwall are pushing them, they are going to come at us and it will suit us.

    This a prime Jones scenario.  He knows they have better players.  He knows they need a win, he knows he’s got the slowest midfield ever to operate at this level, he’ll be parking the bus and showcasing the very best of Soviet resilience we’ve ever seen.

    The iron curtain will be up, us, the people of Nathan’s communist republic will be fed his the lastest serving of perestroika and hope that our dour brand of football philosophy scores an historic victory over the flamboyant western liberal outfit that is Ipswich 

    If we get the point that keeps us up, we will celebrate with Potatoes and Gruel whilst Nathan then has a decision to make about direction to take our football in next season.  Do we stick to our communist principles and sign more centre backs and painfully slow midfielders that do good work ‘off the ball’, or do we invite the free market capitalism into the team and sign players that can actually do stuff with the ball at this level.

    Long time reader first time poster - as a Gramscian Addick this is the best post I’ve ever read here. The old is not yet dead, the new is not yet born, in the interregnum morbid symptoms appear

    Given Ipswich's aforementioned weakness at LB, I'd like to see TC at RWB. He has struggled at LWB but he is right footed. Actually that may be his future.

    We need one of Gough/Mitchell as DCM, as the alternatines have been woeful. With next season in mind, Knibbs and JCR have to be given game time or discarded. 

    Id go with Miles and Kelman to start, Sichenje replacing Ramsay, although I can fear an early red bath.

    With Coady & Collins back, Reece Burke also available, Jones saying it's a must win, it all points to a change in formation 9 -1. Keep em out at all costs & hope that Dykes can throw himself to the floor in the box with the ball nowhere near & get a pen. Fingers crossed.

    Your "communist" metaphor works quite well as a metaphor if you are comparing to Soviet society. Our tall but immobile defenders do sometimes resemble the notoriously low-quality Brezhnevka housing blocks of the 1960s and 70s.

    But it does not work when comparing to Soviet football itself, which was generally more open and entertaining than in the rest of Europe. And who can forget the Hungarian team of the 1960s, for my money the greatest ever national team. Maybe other teams from Brazil, Netherlands, Germany, France, etc were maybe better, but they did not alter world football like the Hungarians. Everyone afterwards tried to imitate their quick passing and fluid positioning. Even England eventually caught on (too many years later) once Venables and Robson took over.
