MATCH THREAD : Charlton Athletic V Hull City : Saturday 25th April 2026 : KO 12:30
Hi everyone…
Well here we go then, last home match of the season and the last time to get that sodding point we need on home turf, today Hull City roll up at The Valley, and this really has to be the game we all turn up focused on getting the job done, players and fans alike, because what we don't want is that last day scenario do we.
The Tigers currently sit seventh in the table, level on points with Wrexham in the final play-off spot with only goal difference separating the two teams but are having a bit of a slump themselves and without a win in the last 5 matches, and this has to be our chance to settle the nerves and send every Addick home happy at the same time…not too much to ask I would have thought…🙄
TEAM NEWS…Harry Clarke is available again after the enforced absence against Ipswich, Kayne Ramsay will continue to be assessed, Amari'i Bell, Tyreece Campbell and Matty Godden were all forced off on Wednesday through injury, let's hope they are available, the visitors are expected to be without Cody Drameh and Toby Collyer.
HEAD-TO-HEAD…We've met on 43 previous occasions winning 19, the Tigers 12 and the remaining 12 clashes resulting in draws, we drew 1-1 in the reverse fixture, with Luke Berry netting a stoppage-time equaliser, so a repeat will do today…
Tom Nield will be the man in the middle this afternoon, let's just hope he's 100% better than what we have had lately…
TEAM…Nathan Jones makes four changes to his line-up for today’s game against Hull City
Harry Clarke, Conor Coady, Harvey Knibbs and Sonny Carey return to the XI as Conor Coventry, Joe Rankin-Costello and Tyreece Campbell move to the bench, while Amari’i Bell misses out with the knee injury sustained in midweek.
Collins Sichenje, Lloyd Jones and Macaulay Gillesphey once again start in a back three in front of Thomas Kaminski.
Clarke and Jayden Fevrier may operate as wing-backs with Coady joining captain Greg Docherty in midfield. Knibbs and Carey are likely to support frontman Charlie Kelman.
Coventry, Rankin-Costello and Campbell are joined on the bench by Will Mannion, Reece Burke, Luke Chambers, Luke Berry,Miles Leaburn and Lyndon Dykes.
Charlton: Kaminski; Sichenje, Jones, Gillesphey; Clarke, Coady, Docherty (c), Fevrier; Knibbs, Carey; Kelman
Subs: Mannion, Burke, Chambers, Coventry, Rankin-Costello, Berry, Campbell, Leaburn, Dykes

Nice to see TC can make the bench, could be a good option later11

Didn't know it was possible for us to get even weaker in attack, but guess 1 up top in Kelman with two #10s is that.2

Gillesphey? Really? Glad we haven't reverted back to Dykes upfront.8

It reads like a 361/narrow 3421?

I’m amused that Jones has turned on Chambers at pretty much exactly the time I did. It’s a weird lineup, seems an odd time to switch to two 10s which has never worked in the history of Charlton Athletic but it’s, on the face of it, two intense pressers who can nick a goal better then anyone else. Fev starting on the left means at least some attacking width and then Campbell can come on later. Only need a point, let’s pray between Carey, Knibbs and Kelman we can find two goals because a left side of Fev and Gillesphey is giving me fear shits8

Bound to concede at least one with macca in the side so 1-1 best we can hope for I guess2
-
Glad Fevrier is starting, as someone said in the preview we need him there if TC isn’t in the team.11

If that squad had Bell in for Gillesphey it looks 100x better.Always like seeing Knibbs in the team, think he is a different type of midfielder than any others we have (A more attacking minded Docherty in a way)
Fevrier next to Macca feels risky, however at least it balances out his horrific lack of pace. Fevrier did very well midweek too.
Fancy a Kelman goal today. Don’t really know why we took him off so early midweek.8 -
Think a key part of that line up is to have Doc covering the left side and Coady effectively man marking Gelhardt. For a team with attacking wingers Hull rarely cross the ball so packing the middle of the park should make it harder for them5

Knibbs will be knackered by about 30 minutes won't he? Interested to see how this works.

Gillesphey free kick, 1-0, job done. Sounds familiar!9
