Take out the weird 10 game stretch where Jones left him out for seemingly no reason, he'd probably end up in the top 3 for POTY3
-
One of those that has grown since the beginning of the season. Compare today and Wednesday especially with the doc that played against Watford first day of the season and it’s like a different player. Would rather he be more of a backup next season though.1
-
Not sure if he’s the quality we need next season but has stood out this season for what every single footballer should aspire to be like with his passion workrate and endeavour, definition of the perfect character8
-
Played like a true captain today, even down to the peg-leg at the end!
His technical limitations are what they are, but in terms of endless running, example setting, and seemingly infinite stamina, you’re going back to the likes of Kishishev and Kinsella to find a competitor.
One of them also used to piss a certain section of the fan base off for the same reasons as Doc, but his manager and teammates loved him the same way Jones and this team loves Doc.
As others have said, he’s had a strong end to the season generally, but really stepped up these last two games when it was about giving it every last drop left in the tank to get the final point we needed.Fully deserves some plaudits and I hope even those most frustrated by his weaknesses can see what his strengths have contributed recently and give him credit for it.30 -
Really nicely summed up. Fully agreeExiled_Addick said:Played like a true captain today, even down to the peg-leg at the end!

Last 2 or 3 games he's been much better on the ball as well, if only he'd been doing that all season. Would hope we'll improve over the summer but happy to have him as backup.

Two captains performances this week. Limited in ability but a proper leader and fit as a fiddle. Well done Doc6
-
I've been a big critic of Doc for most of this season, he's really upped his game recently though.
Plus I recognize his never say die spirit & leadership.
Well done the captain.
I'm sure we'll recruit some quality midfield it's obvious we're lacking here.

My thoughts exactly.
Honestly, when we got promoted I thought 'no way will he start, he'll be back-up' (along with a few others!).
But he did, I thought he was out of his depth and at times it was like playing with ten men.
But in recent games, I have to take my hat off to the fella. Hustles, never gives up, really gives a shit. Yes I think this league is a step above him (and many other starters right now) if we want to progress, to finish mid table, for instsnce.
But absolutely appreciate his recent performances. Well done skipper.0 -

I would think he definitely falls into the category of “good to have around the building”. Also a decent option to have on the bench to help see out games. I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s here next season, although he may choose to go elsewhere if we can’t guarantee him regular starts. Even he is a bit parter, you know he’ll be ultra professional and will fit and ready of/when called upon.Probably a bit early for him to settle for a bit part role while he pursues his coaching badges but o do expect he’ll make a good coach one day.1 -

Been outstanding in the last 2 home games.
still our weakest area of the pitch though. We need 2 quality midfielders in the middle of the park.
definitely has a job to do in certain games though.2 -
He's also got 5 goals for us in 79 games which very nearly meets the 6 he got for Hull but in 134 games. Granted 4 of those were the division below which may be why!0
-
Credit to him, looked like he was frozen out, but has come back and been superb, his return is a big reason we are safe.2
-
Hardly no reason. He was playing shit then.sam3110 said:Take out the weird 10 game stretch where Jones left him out for seemingly no reason, he'd probably end up in the top 3 for POTY3 -
Liked the way he went over to the Hull fans at the end and gave them a clap and got very warm applause back in return. I don’t mind that. He played nearly 150 games for them, and was well liked so why shouldn’t he. Classy in my opinion.29

Doc was on crutches after the game. Brave lad.3
-
No, we were playing shit then, he was dropped, we played even worse, and then started chopping and changing and trying even worse combinations in midfield.crookester said:

And it's not like he just benched him, he was completely out of the squad4 -
Definitely my player of the month for April.5
-
Put it this way, nobody other than RonnieMoore was complaining that he shouldn't have been dropped at the time. I do agree that being taken out of the squad entirely was weird. Doc himself admitted he wasn't playing well enough and similar happened last season, where he was dropped and came back stronger. Anyway, he's been our best player these past few games.sam3110 said:

What , that’s ridiculous, you have to boo everyone who leaves your club I thought 🤷♂️thickandthin63 said:Back end of the season he has held our team together, absolutely outstanding.Hull supporters showed what they thought of him with a superb round of applause when his name was read out.6 -

He either starts like a train and continues that fashion for 90 mins or starts badly and never gets going.
Jones needs to recognise the latter sooner and pull him because he never turns it around.
But when he's really at it I always think we'll get something from the game.
Definitely keep, but hopefully to push a better younger version.0 -
We need more quality than him. Decent guy, goodish leader , no Kinsella , but the reason we have had to scrap and scrap for survival is our all round lack of creativity and ability to score goals . Not his fault of course but he is part of it .EastTerrace said:
Nope, started the season well. Form dropped when most of the players did and bizarrely could possibly have gone on loan and finished very strongly.wmcf123 said:

Oh yes I agree with that, although whoever it is has to make up the work not done by Mr.Invisible0
-
I’d definitely keep him next season, he’s a great captain and even if we do improve a lot there are still going to be games against top sides where we will only have 30-40% of the ball, and those games are when Docherty is consistently one of our best players
I said in the summer I thought he’d be better for us in the championship than he was in league 1 and I think he has been. After a shaky game against Watford he was excellent early season, and he’s finished the season strongly as well
Squad player but starting the odd tough game is where I’d have him9 -
Because we’ve spent the last 5 years with squad filled with twats instead with people like Docherty. I actually doubt there’s anyone from this current squad who would get booed if we were to play against themoohaahmortimer said:

Singing his name before he came on yesterday. He couldn't even recognise the fans for his third place in POTY. He has a design fault which is why he always flatters to deceive and his body language is so awful. I guess it's a mental health issue.
In years to come Campbell being booed out of the club will be the new Curbishley had taken us as far as he could.3 -
Never knew being incredibly shy and reserved is now classified as a mental health issue. He struggles to give more than one word answers in interviews he does with Mendez in a closed space if he struggles with that how on earth is he going to feel comfortable being down on a pitch as a main focus in front of thousands upon thousands of people he doesn’t know.bolloxbolder said:
