70/7. Jas Singh with a real low grubber that removed Zak Chappel’s off stump. Superb.

Not  been  watching, but our second innings suggests this is a new ball pitch, so we Derbyshire might be able to hang around a bit now the ball is 39 overs old

Fanny, for the good of cricket, please do NOT break into a jig today. Never thought I'd be saying that this season but this may yet be our annual win for the year.

    Wow. Just seen Milnes figures.

    13-6-8-5

    That's some tight bowling.

Either that or Derbyshire have found that old DVD, How to bat the Kent way!

    115-9

Milnes now has figures of 14-6-11-6 and nine wickets in the match. Proving a good decision to re-sign him.

Believe it or not, we are only 3 points behind Gloucs and with a game in hand too and 4 points behind Derbyshire. In fact, once we've beaten Gloucs Derbyshire and pick up 24 22 points, we'll only be 15 22 points behind top placed Northants!
158 all out. Final wicket to Ekansh. Kent win by a mammoth 225 runs

Perhaps I'm not the only one to escape the asylum after all......

Great win that, massive credit to Benjamin with the way he has started the season.

Jas Singh is a worry, not sure the penny will ever drop for him. So poor

The one that kept low to bowl Zak Chappell was a beauty, but that was mixed in with a lot of leg side buffet bowling making him very expensive. Grant Stewart is badly needed back in the team.

And there’s another county who are actually below Kent & Derby in the table. We play them at Bristol next Friday.

Jas probably knows more than most that this is a "make or break" season for him. From a personal perspective as a friend, as is Seb with the two playing cricket together for a decade, I really hope he does. He has the raw attributes but lacks the consistency at the moment that puts batters under pressure by bowling a tight line and length over after over.

Ekansh, as I keep saying, is an interesting one. He is at that frustrating stage with the bat in so far as he looks a million dollars, has great technique and then, inexplicably, plays a loose shot to get out. However, we should remember that he is only 19 and has more leeway than our more established players. It's a concentration issue and one where he just needs to learn not to get ahead of himself. On the flip side, he's only really taken up bowling seriously in the last few seasons and that has very much been due to Kent's encouragement for him to do so.

No longer is Ekansh the stick thin teenager. He's been hitting the gym hard and is capable of bowling a heavy ball that will surprise a batter. Today he hurried their top bat, Reece, into making two false shots. Both were top edged, the first dropped by Northeast and the second taken by Benjamin.  Just to be clear, that does not make him an opening bowler but he is and will be capable of being a wicket taker and stand breaker.

Like all our youngsters, he is a work in progress and needs the experience, but I do believe that he is one of the most talented cricketers we have had and will be a genuine batting all rounder. As we know, they are like gold dust.
