First I would say being able to constantly see the whole scene in front of you rather than the one dimensional shot the tv coverage is deciding to show you.siblers said:
Is there anything extra you'd from notice or anything which stood out from being in person compared to watching on TV?sholland said:Got a great position this year just above Murphy’s seat, really difficult to call at this stage could go all the way to a decider I think.
Seeing the players body language and little signs of high or low emotions away from camera, other things like looking at players family members nearby and how they are coping there is so much going on around you.Seeing the set up and professionalism from the broadcasters is impressive to watch in person, would include the referee and WST staff in that.It is such an intimate setting and the view is incredible from any seat (I was in back row last year)
If you think what the atmosphere and tension was like watching at home at 17 all, multiply that by a thousand and you would never be close to how it feels in that theatre in person.I had a tension headache from just watching in there, it can go from being rowdy to utterly silent in a few seconds. Great support for both players but respect is shown at the right time.Always lots of players past and present milling around in the venue, nearly always happy to chat and engage with the fans.My favourite sporting venue by far from all the ones I have been to (in all sports)
Can’t wait to go back next year, it is something I would hate to miss. If you love snooker I would recommend a visit to the Crucible as you certainly won’t regret it, it needs to be experienced.5 -

Always wanted to see a final go to 17 all, it was everything I was expecting and some +++.
Great I had the table booked for a frame or two after the final ended.4 -

I don't understand why anyone would use the headsets, unless you don't know much about snooker. I have never seen it in any other sport, except perhaps cricket.MrOneLung said:@sholland do you wear one of the headphones to listen to commentary?Does it default to the insufferable BBC commentators or can you choose ?0 -
I think the BBC presenting and commentary team are excellent. It’s one of my favourite parts about watching it. I play snooker very badly, these guys are ex pros who walk you through everything that’s going through the player’s mind re: shots, positional play and break building as it relates 3/4 shots down the line. I also think they’ve got a great mix of personalitiesMrOneLung said:@sholland do you wear one of the headphones to listen to commentary?Does it default to the insufferable BBC commentators or can you choose ?
I appreciate this is all taste, but I think insufferable is definitely not a term I would use
glad you enjoyed it @sholland, looking forward to my visit next year8 -
As @cabbles points out is personal taste, I don’t find the BBC commentary insufferable but often watch on TNT for different commentators for a change.MrOneLung said:@sholland do you wear one of the headphones to listen to commentary?Does it default to the insufferable BBC commentators or can you choose ?The earpieces are just BBC and again are just a matter of preference, I was given one this year by someone leaving an earlier session who I got talking to in The Head of Steam I used it some of the time. The BBC do have a great archive of footage that they often use to make some nice segments that are enjoyable.I can’t imagine that people watch snooker on TV with the sound muted because they don’t like the commentary, maybe I’m wrong but would be a strange way to watch sport on TV.0
