No chance. As guilty as they may be you can’t expect Southampton to have gone into the second leg knowing just a one goal margin would be enough to win when they would have needed to win by four and likely change how they would have approached the game. No they would have had to have implemented this before the 2nd leg I don’t see this as a viable option.letthegoodtimesroll said:It’s the perfect opportunity for the EFL to make a landmark statement to all clubs…if you deliberately break the rules, there will be consequences…as already suggested, award the first game 3-0 to Middlesbrough.5 -
Pretty obvious there were orders from above. There's no way some guy decided to drive 5 hours to Middlesbrough and record their training unless he was told to.Isawsummersplay said:I think that whoever did the spying will become the sacrificial lamb. Whether or not he was acting under orders from above, he will fall on his sword, and admit he did it off his own back.
He will lose his job, Southampton will get a rap on the knuckles, and the ‘guilty’ chap will be looked after by the club when all the dust has settled.
Call me a cynic, but Southampton know there is just too much at stake for them to come clean.3 -

Yeah, the fact the guy apparently had a change of clothes with him (he ran off to a nearby hotel and changed into different clothes to try and avoid detection), suggests he went prepared and this wasn't his first rodeo.fenaddick said:

Chris_from_Sidcup said:The thing that baffles me is why you'd even feel the need to send someone to spy on them. You've played them twice in the league, you've got 44 other games to watch footage from, you realistically already know how they're going to play and could probably have named 9-10 of their starting lineup.
I also think Boro are playing on this a bit too much. Regardless of the spy, they were the better side across the two legs and if they'd taken their chances they'd be going to Wembley. They absolutely murdered Southampton in the first leg, particularly in the first half when they had 76% possession and 17 shots. Based on that the spy was pretty fucking useless. But ultimately the same thing that cost Boro at home to us, Portsmouth, Millwall and Bristol City in their last few home games was their problem, they couldn't convert chances. They had over 75 shots in those 4 games and got 1 point.
I'm not defending what Southampton did by any means, as i think it's absolutely pathetic of them, but i honestly don't think it had any bearing on the result.
I agree with Chris on what are you going to learn new other than was Hackney fit to play and was he taking part in the 'shape' at the training ground. Possibly a new free kick but after a 46 game campaign that seems unlikely.
Q. Does the 'Spy' work for Southampton?
Q. Is he a freelance that has done any work for the Saints ?
Q. Why was the Spy so poor at spying ?
Q. If there is to be "No whitewash at the White house" then what are the EFL going to do ?
It was totally pointless at Watergate when the democrats were weak and this is bordering on the paranoid if there was collusion between Southampton and 'Johnny English'!

I really hope Hull stuff Southampton, and wipe that smug expectant smirk of their cheating faces...1

There have been rumours about other clubs coming forward with allegations about Soton too...fenaddick said:

'Spying' isn't cheating lol ffs, there should be no regulations about it, clubs should just be careful who they admit to training, and if they see a drone hovering nearby they should be allowed to shoot it down6

My first thought when the 'Sinners' scored 5 in the 1st half at the valley was who's been spying on Cafc 🤔11 -

I’m not sure giving another medium sized club the riches of parachute payments will be any good for us in the medium term. Would rather Southampton go up, crush Hull’s spirit and the Tigers go back to being bottom table strugglers next season.eastterrace6168 said:I really hope Hull stuff Southampton, and wipe that smug expectant smirk of their cheating faces...6 -
If Southampton have created the positions, they probably shouldn't have had the shirts made up.

Hull got rid of the spanners ffs, lets at least give them our support in recognition...🙄8

Both Middlesbrough and Hull away are much longer and much more expensive journeys than Southampton away so it clearly stands to reason that Southampton are guilty of all charges, whatever they are, and should forfeit their play off final place to Middlesbrough. #bangtorightsValley11 said:

If multiple instances of spying are found then the EFL will have to do something. It could be chaotic.

Although, apart from Clive and Mark, I think our players were so scared they just hit it as hard as they could and hoped it looked like they knew what they were doing.0 -

McBurnie is a thug and I wouldn’t want him anywhere near our club.Valley11 said:Hull showing how it can be done without mega money. They’ve been outstanding at the back, in a similar way to how we play.
But they have a much stronger midfield and threats going forward.
Would love McBurnie and Giles2 -

agreed - unless the FA swooped instantly like the SAS and confiscated all computers and phones, there will be no record - let's face it, 'those in charge' waited for Prince Andrew to move house, dump all evidence, then move into a new house before searching so yes, there will be no proof unless he blabsIsawsummersplay said:I think that whoever did the spying will become the sacrificial lamb. Talk of the perpetrator's of the filming "doing it all off their own back" and not with the clubs being aware or agreeable is preposterous, sure as eggs are eggs, if they had been successful in their actions the club would have benefited from it, they're complicit and to blame 100%...0

Rule 127 did not exist when Leeds were caught. They had to be fined under a lesser charge of breaching rule 3.4 “acting in good faith toward an opponent”.ForeverAddickted said:letthegoodtimesroll said:It’s the perfect opportunity for the EFL to make a landmark statement to all clubs…if you deliberately break the rules, there will be consequences…as already suggested, award the first game 3-0 to Middlesbrough. But they've already set a precedent with Leeds... They got a £200k fine when they did it a few years back, so if Southampton get a stronger penalty, they've surely got reasonable grounds for appeal
At the summer Olympics, Canada got a six point deduction for spying on New Zealand training. Different competition, different governing body so also not a precedent.3 -

As the Leeds born hardman has 17 goals in 37 apps in the 25/26 season there is more chance that Ronnie Moore sings the praises of TC than McBurnie coming to CAFC.
If Ollie did come South then our owners are pushing the boat out !0 -
Leaked evidence from the EFL inquiry.

Also Southampton probably won't care if they're deducted points, as they might not even be in the Championship next season anyway.Callumcafc said:

I'm not telling tales but many a tea lady at training grounds up and down the country have supplemented their wages by passing on information about new free kicks or who is or isn't fit to the opposition the day before a game.
It was called Tea-bagging back in the day and this isn't bollocks 🙄
