People taking it way too seriously it seems.4

I think the whole programme is a crock of shit. It has got nothing to do with music and everything to do with politics. A waste of a number of hours in your life.4

Was interesting to watch the pre contest favourites one by one fall by the wayside. Thought it would come down to one of Australia or Finland Vs Israel but Bulgaria came out of nowhere along with Romania. Italy will always be there or thereabouts even if I personally didn't really care for their entry this year.MuttleyCAFC said:I liked our song but it was never going to win, even if Europe was favourable to us. What spoils the contest though is votes that have nothing to do with the song. So Greece always gives Cyprus 12 points and visa versa. The performers could walk on the stage, have a dump and still get the 12 points. Israel is always going to get more votes than the song deserves, often the scandinavians voting for their neighbours etc... Not sure what can be done about it though. What I would say is the song that won, whether it was to your taste or not, actually won on merit and Sam Ryder got the support to come second to a newly invaded Ukraine with a powerful well performed song a few years back. I actually preferred the Swedish song in that contest but it should be about personal tastes not political and geographic loyalties.
For what it is, I thought the standard was pretty decent.

If we could enter england, scotland, Wales and maybe northern Ireland that would guarantee us at least 36 points each!2

You think Scotland and Wales would vote for England?!stevexreeve said:If we could enter england, scotland, Wales and maybe northern Ireland that would guarantee us at least 36 points each!

How did Sam Ryder do so well?golfaddick said:Utter tripe.
What was once a fairly decent song contest (Cliff, Sandi Shaw, Brotherhood of Man, Bucks Fizz......and ABBA !!) has turned into a monstrosity of weirdo's trying to outdo each in other in costume design & crap music.
The fact we came last with what can only be described as a "if you can't beat them, join them" performance just shows that Europe hates us more than the Scots & Welsh combined.1 -
Only watched the final voting. But agree with your main paragraph (apart from I don't know about the Swedish song)MuttleyCAFC said:I liked our song but it was never going to win, even if Europe was favourable to us. You should all be thankful that you haven't had to put up with this crap for the whole of the past year.7

Bah .. Europeans don’t recognise talent when they see it. All together now .. eins, zwei, drei 😩😬😳3

Our song done well to get one point ..bet the organisers were pooing themselves when Israel were leading …. But Australia should have won different class …….. we are world leaders in song writing and bands/ singers yet we can’t get someone to write a song for Eurovision and someone with experience to sing it …

We could bring back Lennon from the dead and have the Beatles singing Yellow Submarine in their pomp and we would still lose to Israel0

Interesting Israel were second - they were second last year too, weren't they?Southendaddick said:We could bring back Lennon from the dead and have the Beatles singing Yellow Submarine in their pomp and we would still lose to Israel0 -
I don’t listen to the songs. I just watch the voting. They play 5 seconds of each song before the voting which given the songs’ standard is plenty long enough anyway. I decided years ago that the contest is not about songs anyway, it’s about guessing the votes and taking the piss out of the participants. It’s one hour of fun and laughs if you take this viewpoint.raytreacy said:I think the whole programme is a crock of shit. It has got nothing to do with music and everything to do with politics. Surely you can write one after all your time hearing Millwall songs when you were younger at their gamesRonnieMoore said:Our song done well to get one point ..bet the organisers were pooing themselves when Israel were leading …. We're seeing The Wedding Present Friday 30th October Shepherd's Bush Empire playing Seamonsters.IdleHans said:Bulgarias entry looks like a porn actress, complete with something that looks suspiciously similar to a sizeable strap on.(To be clear, Im listening to The Wedding Present on Youtube)1 -
Strangely that is exactly what I said to my wife.MuttleyCAFC said:So Greece always gives Cyprus 12 points and visa versa. The performers could walk on the stage, have a dump and still get the 12 points.0 -
I’ve said this before:
it gives a lot of people pleasure - no harm in that, so…..
BBC (us) stop funding it.UK drop out for a couple of years
Buy the one-off transmission each year and stick it on IPlayer.
UK can’t win in the foreseeable future so why waste the effort.1 -
I enjoy watching us being given the shoulder by them all. Anyone that celebrates a victory in that needs to give their head a wobble.0
-
We didn't have Ireland to give us some points this year, they boycotted it because Israel was allowed to participate.

Top 3 for me was UK, Moldova and Bulgaria. Only the 3 songs I liked. Purely cos all three were a bit of a laugh.1

Would have loved Australia to have won it - imagine everyone having to schlep over there next year & it being held in the middle of the night......

Never thought of that before, good point.golfaddick said:Would have loved Australia to have won it - imagine everyone having to schlep over there next year & it being held in the middle of the night......
The BBC would have to double the licence fee to cover costs.1 -
Makes sense. People who hate Israel votes are spread over the other 24 countries and people who are pro Israel vote for Israel, so their votes are concentrated.PrincessFiona said:

Why would you vote at all just because you 'hate' an entrant. I didn't vote at all and if I did it would be for the song I thought was bestDiebythesword said:

I presume he meant if you have anti-Israel sentiment then it won't show in a vote.PrincessFiona said:

But if you feel so strongly pro-Israel that you would vote in their favour to make a point, then you only have one option.0
