If any which club do you have a soft spot for

Arsenal for family reasons. My dad tried his hardest but was gutted when I became an Addick, must admit it got a bit tempting during their double winning season in 70/71.
Stockport due to living there for over 40 years.
And now I can add SC Farense because they are my local team in the Algarve where I now live, I enjoy popping along to see them play every now and then.0 -
Man Utd.My dad’s team.Supported them as a kid until old enough to start going Charlton with mates rather than a parent, and Charlton took over.Would go every United London game and Old Trafford three of four times a year from ages 7 to 13.Earliest proper football memory was watching them lose to Southampton in 76 FA CUP aged 5
went to the 83 Final versus Brighton
just my luck to support them when relatively unsuccessful and missed out on the Ferguson glory years.0 -
I too have a soft spot for Millwall it’s a swamp in Epping Forest.

Grew up in Coventry and remember watching their 1987 FA Cup victory on the TV with family, every time i went out to get more Sky Blue frosted cup cakes from the kitchen they scored.
Had two Liverpool supporting friends when i lived in Mornington Crescent and watched a bunch of games with them over a few years including their 2005 win in Instanbul.1 -
I think currently AFC Wimbledon because JJ is managing them. I have a soft spot for Kilmanock and Forli (which nobody would have heard of). I thought I had a soft spot for Spurs as I coudn't recall wanting them to lose a game unless they played us, but I have wanted them to lose this season when there was a chance they could get relegated so I can't have. I was a great fan of Hoddle and Ardilles. As an aside, my brother has a memorabillia business and visited Ossie at his house yesterday for some signings and Ricky Villa was staying with him. I recall that trick where Ossie rolled the ball onto his heel and flicked it up which was played all the time on The Big Match. I practised it until I could do it and I did like their Admiral kit.0

Does this actually rhyme with 'Och aye the noo'?Stenhousemuir who have just been promoted. Got to see them a few years ago at Ochilview against Aberdeen in the cup one January (Probably the coldest I've ever been at a game). Ground had a 3/4 G pitch and 2 sided akin to a non league ground. When back in the 70's at school others used to pick either Rangers or Celtic as their Scottish teams I went for Stenhousemuir and followed their results ever since. #upthestenny0 -
Coventry. Lived there for three years whilst at Warwick University from 1977 to 1980. Saw about 20 matches in that time. They had a quite an exciting team, lan Wallace and Ferguson up leading the attack and captained by Terry Yorath.0

Exeter for the way they looked after my little girl when she was an away mascot there a couple of years back. Lovely club with great fans and a really nice City.6

AFC Wimbledon, got a few connections to the club through family and of course Johnnie Jackson at the helm. Always keep an eye out for their scores after Charlton. The true successor to original Wimbledon FC1

Wolves, Grandad is a big fan, rest of family all Charlton though.1

What a team that was. Pass and move. Jimmy Greaves was the greatest goalscorer I have ever seen.0 -
Used to like Hoddle and Ardiles as a kid, but Dad still took me to The Valley. Brighton is my 2nd team these days, my step son played up for the U16s last week and scored 2 goals in 40 mins, he's 14. Told him he's coming on loan to us in a few years

Wieczysta Kraków. Saw them when they were in the Polish 3rd division against Piast Gilwicie in the cup. Was free to get in so got a shirt to help them out. They've won promotion since then and are guaranteed a playoff spot to get into the Ekstraklasa for next season.2

Can't say I have a soft spot for any other club in England. However I have a few in other countries, mainly due to travels or Football Manager saves.
Scotland - Arbroath - Got interested in them due to a fact about their ground - Closest professional ground to the sea in Europe. That led to a couple of years of doing saves with them in FM
Germany - St Pauli - Amazing club, fortunate enough to see a game at their stadium once thanks to a friend who was living in Hamburg at the time
Italy - Fiorentina/Inter - From watching Italian football on Channel 4 years ago
Spain - Tenerife - Holiday/FM
France - Auxerre - Initially started as an FM Save - due to a wonderkid they had back in the day, a certain Yaya Sanogo - Done a couple of saves since after he came to us

Leeds Utd. My first match at Wembley, when I was 12 was the FA Cup final Liverpool vs Leeds in 1965. (Liverpool won 2-1 in extra time.) I thought Leeds were the better team and were a bit unlucky.
(Tickets were courtesy of Bill Neelan who was a friend of my Dad and a director at Millwall. He owned a barge building company and named the barges after Millwall players.)0 -
And West Ham then?DaveMehmet said:Palace, for helping us out when we had to move out of The Valley in the 80’s.0 -
IF the soft spot is a putrid deathly swamp, Palarse and/or the Spanners, and if room West Ham. I would say Wrexham, however that would be a promotional advert for Wrexham itself!0

That was the very first match I can ever remember watching on TV. What with that and The Beatles, Liverpool became my second team in England, and (ducks!) remain so to this day.0 -
+1 for Fulham. Fulham have always struck me as a really well-run club, with a fanbase that seems to contain a far lower percentage of idiots than most. They’ve quietly put together a very solid spell in the Premier League without attracting a huge amount of attention, and Craven Cottage has a similar feel to The Valley in the sense that it’s been modernised while still remaining rooted in its traditional location and identity.
Given the money and backing behind them over the years though, you would maybe expect them to have had a proper crack at winning something like the FA Cup or League Cup by now. As far as I’m aware, they still don’t actually have a major trophy to their name.

Luton, Northampton, Motherwell and Imortal Albufeira.
But having run a pub here for 10 years, met loads of nice people from all over the place, so there are many, many teams whose results I look for on a Saturday when I think of them.1 -

Ajax. Loved their academy era and the incredible generation of talent they had in the 90's: Van der Sar, Frank de Boer, Ronald de Boer, Bogarde, Reizeger, Seedorf, Edgar Davids, Kluivert and Overmars all playing in the same team was absolute madness. Loved the kit, as well.

I’ve always felt Charlton were one of those clubs that a lot of supporters from other teams had a bit of a soft spot for. I still remember the commentary after we beat Chelsea on penalties in 2005 — “the friendly club from south east London.”
Do you think we still have that perception among other fans, or has that faded over the years?

I've got a few, not including non-league like Welling etc.
Quite like West Brom as they were my Grandpa's team (and they're more likeable than Birmingham).
Sunderland as their fans were spot on at both playoff games.
Teams I've been to their games while in other countries and so keep following - Barcelona, Inter, Hibs.
Berwick Rangers because I like playing as them on Football Manager.
And another vote for Fulham - proper club, good ground, great away game, and I've got a mate who is a fan so we used to go to the pub for their games etc.
Don't actively support them all or anything, just in a game where I'd normally be a neutral/it doesn't affect Charlton, I'd probably prefer them to win.0 -
Dartford (I went to my very first game at Watlin Street when I was 3 some 70 years ago). Berwick Rangers also because they are the only English club playing in Scottish football and finally got a lot of respect (like many others on here) for Sunderland especially their supporters.0

Surely, they lined up as 2-3-5. Wasn’t Terry Medwin the regular outside right with Cliff Jones on the left wing?raytreacy said:I always liked Spurs of the early sixties.Brown

I've always liked Bolton for no real reason. Think it was from being young and them having JJ Okocha, Stellios, Campo, etc.0
-
Hull City - always liked their kit0
