Dawkins edges behind for a duck to Clark with the sounds of laughter from the slip cordon

And that is the last action of the game

The most "village" thing about the final hour or so of the game wasn't Raine keeping wicket. It was Raine keeping wicket in a short-sleeved shirt. Expect him to receive a letter of warning regarding his behaviour from the Keepers Union.

Poor old Dawkins. They should have sent 10 and 11 out if they planned to declare so soon.

Surrey hammered by Yorkshire.  I thought I'd mention it, seeing that the Surrey thread has gone quiet.

We are now third, just 8 points behind second placed Northants. Who would have said that three games ago?

The other thing to take into account is that we have already played Durham home and away.

The good ship Promotion has been launched!
  • No refunds but I'm sure the Durham supporters will be really pleased with the alternative that has been offered!

May be an image of text

Exactly and this still does not reflect well on Kent’s management and developing good relations with spectators.

The wet weather policy for Championship games clearly isn’t fit for purpose and I imagine fans who sat there all day on Sunday weren’t too happy to be told about the refunds.

I imagine they had lots of negative feedback following Sunday (perhaps they were pleased about the social media blackout) and whilst perhaps they couldn’t have done anything about the split in the covers surely they could have been more proactive for the spectators affected. They should have offered a full refund or a ticket to any other Kent game as a gesture of goodwill rather than just the ticket equivalent. At least then any Durham fan at the game would have the choice to be compensated for their ticket - if not for the time wasted.

Warwickshire don't have a red ball game at Edgbaston now until 20th August - that's a gap of more than three months (94 days in fact) during what is the height of the summer.

I think it's the same for Middlesex too. Not even sure they're playing all their blast games at Lords

Weird scheduling that both Warks games in June are away. It's not as if Edgbaston is that busy, with just one clashing women's T20 there.

Middlesex are increasingly 3rd class tenants at Lord's after England and the Blast team. Their first 2 Blast games this week are at Lord's, but then they don't play at Lord's until surprisingly a 50 over game on the 2nd August. They do have some nice outgrounds to play on, Merchant Taylors' School, Radlett and Richmond. Thankfully not repeating the decision to play a couple of games in Chelmsford.

Squads announced for both games against Middlesex at Lord's tomorrow.

For the men, unsurprisingly, Northeast isn't in the squad and even when Compton is fit, one suspects that he won't be playing in the Blast either. Dudgeon is being rested and both Stewart and Quinn are injured. The likes of Cohen, Dawkins, Ekansh, Jaydn, Jas, Curtiss and Flintoff aren't included either. Dian Forrester, although called up in the IPL, hasn't played a game and today will probably be CSK's last match in the tournament anyway so, hopefully, we will see him sooner rather than later.

If we perform to the best of our ability then, as I've intimated previously, I really do believe that we have a squad (27 in total with at least 18 of those in with a shout of making the team) to challenge in the Blast.

Currently 11 not out & 2nd highest scorer with the Lions 60-5.

Presume there's no coverage of this match to watch ( from behind the sofa...)

Fantastic news for Ekansh and his performance in front of the England captain will not have harmed his cause. He is still only 19 and although he won't allow himself to get ahead of himself, we mustn't expect too much either. Getting those pretty 40s last season was a stepping stone and his bowling has come on in leaps and bounds but he is still a relative novice, especially with the ball.

I've said for seven or eight years that he is such a talent but talent alone doesn't get you there without hard yards and self-belief. It's only the latter that has possibly been an issue in the past but the fact that players that were talked about in England terms, such as McKinney and Tribe are already back in the hutch, this is now almost a "free hit" for Ekansh. Hope he turns this into a big one!

It is worth noting that this is an odd Lions squad due to the beginning of The Blast. Ekansh still had to earn his place though and it sounds like he’s holding his own so far. Ultimately it doesn’t matter why other players are unavailable, all he can do is make the most of this chance that he earned

The work Kent have done with him on his bowling is really paying dividends. In modern cricket, unless you are incredibly good at batting or bowling,  you need a second talent.

South Africa As bowling attack to date looks quite a challenge but then they are far more experienced:

Nqobani Mokoena has played three T20Is for SA, 33 year-old Ottneil Baartman has played 27 white ball games for SA, 37 year-old Dane Patterson has 19 caps in total in all forms of the game and Jason Smith's played 14 times.

Sadly, just as I finished typing that, Ekansh has been caught behind off the bowling of Mokoena for 25 (42).

Indeed. But top scorer so far.

    Well done, young man.

I'm sure he's going to be a genuine all-rounder but batting will be his first consideration because his technique is so good and he can score 360. Ultimately, I could see him ending up at 4 for Kent and coming on first change. And hopefully England one day too even more so because you can count on one hand those capable of doing those two specific jobs at that level.
