As much as it will benefit us , giving Southampton an increased points deduction after the punishment already received is just wrong . What have the fans done to deserve that ? Punish the individual culprits by all means .
Individual culprits representing the club. It’s a club issue and the club should be punished
they should be punished for doing the "binoculars eyes" at other fans alone!
They'll be getting that back in spades next season and some...

    Full investigation.

    Massive points penalty surely incoming.
Crucially an FA investigation which means they can charge individuals. I don’t know if they can impose a sporting sanction on the club or not
Presumably the pace of this investigation will now drop and drag on significantly.

Where would you base yourself to spy on Charlton anyway? In the UoG campus? Up on Avery Hill Park? In Footscray playing fields?

We had a similar thing at Charlton because there is a footpath running through the training ground - we called the police and told them we had a suspected paedo filming boys and as he wouldn’t explain why he had video equipment and a camera they took him in to the police station 😁

Let’s just hope their defence isn’t ‘but we’ve been doing this since Nathan Jones was our manager’. 😆

How is it wrong? The club are punished, same as Sheffield Wednesday, Leicester, West Brom etc

Unless they've shut it - and i very much doubt they have as its a public right of way - there's a path that runs right down the side of the training ground and gives a good view of most of the pitches.

It will be very interesting how the FA investigation plays out.
Eckert has already stated that he was unaware it was against the rules as part of the defence and we all know that ignorance is no defence. This indicates, to me anyway, that he either instigated it, or at the very least was aware and, by inaction, condoned it. That's easy for the FA, and for me is sufficient to warrant a serious sanction - likely a worldwide ban for a set period.
A much bigger issue for Southampton is in relation to how far up the chain it goes. Were the owners, directors and/or senior executives aware? If they were then they would also be guilty of serious misconduct, even if they didn't authorise it. Condoning an act of (gross) misconduct is in of itself (gross) misconduct. If it were the case that senior people were fully aware then there might be hesitation within the club taking action against Eckert for fear of whistleblowing.
No word yet, I believe, from the Independent Football Regulator. Clearly fans have been affected which is of course a big part of their remit. But so is the behaviour of senior people at a football club - either current or prospective. Their Owners, Directors and Senior Executives Regime is (I quote):

The regime sets clear standards for those who own and lead clubs, ensuring they meet the required levels of honesty, integrity, competence and financial soundness. This supports our core aims: protecting club financial health, strengthening the long-term resilience of English football, and safeguarding the heritage of the game.

This debacle is only just beginning - a long way to go still before the dust is allowed to settle.

I'm not saying Southampton cheated when they thrashed Charlton at the Valley 5-1 but apparently both team sheets were handed in by Tonda Eckert  🤷🏻‍♂️

Frivolous appeal, dock them another 26 points for next season.

As most of their best players will leave anyway-"I'm a top footballer,  get me out of here".
That would just leave two other teams to finish below CAFC.
Lincoln, Cardiff, Bolton or Stockport 🤔 possibly Blackburn.

Eckert suggesting that spying is common in other countries is bizarre, and easily disproven I imagine.

When Harry Kane drives into the Bayern training ground, does he wave hello to the Dortmund and Leipzig spies with their zoom lenses and drones?

I wonder what will become of that poor internet lad who did the spying, presumably under instruction.
He will be tainted by this backstory for life. The Southampton players might consider having a whip round and giving the young man a few million quid to re start his life.
I agree, but what does "internet lad" mean!?
Sorry, I wrote (I thought) 'intern', but it came out as internet and I didn't notice.

There have been rumours over the years of various clubs throughout the championship/l1/l2 spying on each other.  It wouldn’t surprise if this ends up blowing up with more whistleblowers at other clubs. I have a feeling this might be the tip of the iceberg for a bigger scandal.

Just of the top of my head, I started out our first game of the season against Watford. The usual scuffling in the box from a corner, Doc steps in front of the player scuffling with Jones who drifts beyond the far post totally free. The corner comes in deep which Jones heads back into the box and Knibbs puts it away. That was definitely worked out on the trainig ground and if Watford knew we were going to do that, they would have stopped it. There is an advantage knowing these set piece plans.

It's quite instructive to read this actually. Their fans are (before the verdict is passed) making light of it, treating it like a nothingburger. Does that mean their fans have a criminal mentality? No, it means that they're supporting the club whose behaviour is in question. If that was any other club - if it was Charlton - people would be behaving the same.

Likewise, fans of every other club are extremely keen to stick the knife in, demand instant relegation and so on, because they support another team. The nature of football fans is to defend one's own club and mercilessly condemn every other.

I do think there's been a slight overreaction, and the EFL/FA are only too keen to seem big and strong over this.

I'd have simply thrown them out of the playoffs, sent Hull straight up and fined Southampton the entire forecast gate receipts of the playoff final. No points deduction for now, forfeiting the chance to go up and covering the playoff final cost is punishment enough.

Except in the rule book the league and the play offs are two separate competitions so the punishment has to be for both competitions

If you are going to punish Southampton for spying on Boro, you have to allow Boro to play in the final. Some people are saying it made no difference but of course the truth is that it might well have. There was only one goal in it at the end of the day. Otherwise you kick Southampton out and say but it didn't make a difference which then makes the initial punishment harsher. It is enough that it might have made a difference and that is the only position you can take surely unless you have magical powers.

Incredible reading, it goes from basically laughing at Middlesbrough for having the temerity to 'think' they'll be in the final, to very quickly wanting the entire management team sacked and asking about final ticket refunds.
