Lloyd Jones 2.0

There always seem to be the assumption that as soon as players go from L1 to championship they suddenly get on wages which are unattainable for L1 clubs if that’s the case you would never see players move permanently from the championship to L1 which just isn’t the case like we’ve seen with REG, Macca, Godden etc.NabySarr said:
I think permanent deals will be pretty tough for any of our senior players that we want to move on. They’ll be on good contracts now with the promotion wage bump, it’ll be loans or we will have to pay them offCrispywood said:
For championship level a lot of them aren’t good enough but will do a job at L1 level there will be takers. Ahadme definitely won’t Burke wouldn’t, Kaminski probably not, Macca probably not maybe players like Z.Mitchell, Dixon you’d just throw in a sell on clause but I don’t see why you can’t get a fee for anyone elseoohaahmortimer said:
Most of that squad is guff and won’t be tradeable for anything but freeCrispywood said:
Would have definitely been the case this year whether it will be next year depends on how good of a summer we have.NabySarr said:Without Jones we get relegated. Selling him for 3 or 4 million would be a terrible call. Double that and maybe there’s a conversation to be hadAs the retained list shows we have a lot of players to trade with
I think Mitchell is probably the only player we will get a good deal for. Could maybe sell Gillesphey to league 1 but the fee is probably just going to cover what we’d have to pay him for him to agree to take the wage drop to league 1
Kaminski and Ahadme are the only real difficult ones that we can shift, if your thinking more of Apter, Tanto they should be easy to move but it’s just do we get enough money that makes us think it’s worthwhile getting rid rather than hoping they come good or if it’s like Coventry would we get an offer that’s worth getting rid opposed to keeping him as a squad player0 -

Unlucky not to get a call up for the upcoming Wales friendlies imo.
It's one of the few positions where there's some strength in depth. Still think he should have had a call though.0 -

Covered before, might not actually want to be called up/made it clear he wants to be, last time he was asked about it all he said was "it would be an honour to play international football" but didn't actually say who for, Wales or EnglandAddicksi said:Unlucky not to get a call up for the upcoming Wales friendlies imo.

He’s not eligible for Wales. FIFA rules only enable you to switch nations once and he made the switch between Wales and England so can’t switch back. They’ll sometimes make special dispensation when the player made the switch very young but I think we are talking u16 level and Lloyd switched at u19s. Would fully have expected Wales to have called him up otherwisesam3110 said:

Pretty sure it’s fine until you have a senior cap isn’t it?follett said:

This isn't true... There was an interview with Nathan Jones the other week about being surprised he hadn't had a callupfollett said:

The one time switch applies at youth level too and given he played official competition games for England youth after switching he technically wouldn’t be allowed another switch. Like I said there is special dispensation on the one time switch rule at youth level e.g very young (like Musiala) but wouldn’t apply for Lloydfenaddick said:

When he gets signed for West Ham and captains them to a league title we will see if he gets called upCAFCsayer said:

I don’t know how well the Welsh FA communicates with players outside their pool, which is why he might not know or have properly looked into it himself, but I’m pretty sure he’s not eligible0 -
He 100% is allowed to represent Wales. At U21’s level or beforehand, players can swap nations as they please it’s only at senior level once you make 3 caps at senior level can you no longer change.follett said:

You’re allowed one switch. FIFA eligibility rules include youth level games in this one time switch, so he wouldn’t be allowed to switch back. Whilst youth games don’t tie you down to your First Nation, they will tie you in to your switch and you can’t just switch back (unless there is special dispensation).Crispywood said:

I’m 99% sure he’s not eligible.
The Welsh FA will know this, Lloyd and NJ may not be as close to the rules and regulations which is why they may be asked in interviews.
See article 9 paragraph 5 for instances where a player can switch back, noting that if a player has played any kind of football at any level for the new nation they cannot switch back. Points 55 and 57 highlight it’s at any age category and players can only switch once https://digitalhub.fifa.com/m/ccab990abf45fcf6/original/ro8mje8vw98yp3rvfbmi-pdf.pdf
There is special dispensation, I don’t think Lloyd will be able to get this. The Welsh FA will have looked into this.1 -
Found it bizarre I couldn't see this info in any news outlets (wasn't doubting you @follett, just find these things interesting!) and you are indeed only allowed one switch as per Art 9.1follett said:

A player may, only once, request to change the association for which he is eligible to play to the association of another country of which he holds the nationality.
This additional note makes it pretty clear too
57. A player may only once request a change of association decision from the PSC. The only exception is provided in article 9 paragraph 5.

The regulations in general are clear as mud though. For me, it feels harsh that you could be tied down even if you swapped at U16 level or to play beach football or Futsal for a different nation. I understand the need to be strict but I'll bet you that Lloyd didn't understand the rules before he switched at U20 level. Apparently, the regulations above are the simplified version so I dread to think what they were like before

Agreed it’s harsh. I don’t think many players understand this, and given interviews it seems that Lloyd may still not even be aware of it. The thing that isn’t entirely clear is when special dispensation is allowed. My understanding is that compromise can be made if the player is very young - it was given to Musiala who made swaps prior to the age of 15. The Welsh FA will almost definitely have explored this for Lloyd though, given he’s statistically one of the best defenders in the Champ.fenaddick said:

As for the news outlets, it shows how lazy journalism can be at times. Some reports are even completely contradictory to the official FIFA document.1 -
Or the football equivalent of 'the stocks' i.e having to go in the Jimmy Seed stand, during our home fixture with Millwall!stoneroses19 said:
