The Life of Chuck: wonderful, life-affirming film (and definitely not your typical Stephen King movie). “I contain multitudes”

Sisu - My favourite film of the last few years. Bloodthirsty but great fun.
It was ok as long as you took it with a pinch of salt and realised very early that it could in no way be based on reality.

“Song for Marion” with Gemma Arterton.  Mind you, I enjoy anything with Gemma Arterton in it.

    L.A. Confidential

    Key Largo

Dark City (Directors cut is the best version, but if it is the standard version, watch the opening on mute, until the character wakes up in the bath - this is due to an added on voiceover that completely ruins the mystery of the movie)

    Minority Report

    Rear Window

    Wall.E

The Hard Way (Michael J. Fox & James Woods)

Despite giving L.A Confidential a watch a couple of times , I never quite saw the appeal.
The same goes for The Prestige . Universally loved seemingly but It left me cold .

Marathon man a great call as well as One flew over the cuckoo's nest. I would recommend Life is Beautiful. A foriegn language film but you forget the subtitles pretty quickly as you get into it. I love the brilliant way it pivots and the supreme performance from Roberto Benigni who won the atual best actor oscar (not foreign language sector). It is two films in one, a jolly crazy, silly love story and a dark second half but the spirit of Benigni's character warms you and makes you laugh throughout. No mean feat given the subject matter. A film guaranteed to make you laugh and cry and hopefully think. You will need 5 minutes at the end to get yourself together.

I think this is the greatest projection of a super hero without super powers that has ever been put to film. Anyway, if you haven't seen it, give it a go. You will not be disapointed. Some might say it is not a true depiction of a concentration camp in terms of he couldn't have done what he did but I think they miss the point. It covers so many aspects of how these things can happen through anger, self preservation and crazy ideals but gives you hope for humanity too.

    12 Angry Men
99% of the film takes place in one small room with no action stunts, explosions or CGI.
Just a great script, fantastic acting from  Henry Fonda and everyone else involved and a great directorial debut from the legendary Sidney Lumet.

    Tampopo
I love food-based films and Tampopo is brilliant.

    Special mentions to:

    Big Night
    Chef
    The Hundred-Foot Journey
    The Menu
    Hunger

and an extra spécial mention to:

    Ratatouille

another food based film I would add Boiling Point

Brilliant acted, Stephen Graham on top form and all done in one single take I believe. Though no way can a restaurant that size can be catered for with only what looks to be 1 stove and 1 oven.

there's the original short film which is on BBC i player or the full movie (which productionally is better and what I would say is the one to watch) is on channel 4 on demand. https://www.channel4.com/programmes/boiling-point
