Read today you can spend EUR 5,000 a head and get a champagne all day experience watching the Sunday GP from a yacht moored in the Monaco marina with a view of the chicane.

seems a bit pricey unless you have a capacity for a lot of champers

Ferrari just vanished as the wick gets turned up. Gonna be a fucking Max pole isn’t it……

It's a trait of Ferrari, they seem fast out the box but don't actually dial in their cars much more. Others seem to find more pace throughout each session whereas they stay about the same, so go backwards as you advance through FP and Quali

Wow what a few laps that was.

I wonder if we'll see the first winner from pole this season, or if the fast starting Ferraris will still find a way through even in Monaco

Gonna need the onboard of that Kimi pole lap. Absolutely sensational.

Monaco qualifying is often great fun. This was no exception.
Shame the race is usually shit. Hopefully tomorrow will be an exception!

    3 top driver performances:

    1) Kimi keeps on battering Mr Saturday
    2) Max is a Cnut but a bloody fast one
    3) Hamilton at 41 outqualifies the fastest qualifier at his home track

What has happened to Russell recently?
The contrast between him and Antonelli is so stark at the moment.

He’s a very very good driver. He’s not elite.

Antonelli, Max, Lewis when he was at his peak. Schumacher. Senna.

    Elite.

Russell, Norris etc are in Tier 1.5 IMO.

Leclerc I think could be Tier 1 but we will never know until he is in a genuine top car

Verstappen to try and push Kimi wide, both slightly out brake themselves into St.-Devote, and Hamilton and Leclerc to slip up the inside for the first 1-2 for the Scud in a long time

Did I mention that Max gets spun around by Kimi and retires on the first lap?

Good job there's engine issues because Monaco is still very dull even with the new engine/car regs

Worst race of all as far as I'm concerned.
    Almost impossible to overtake.
    But money talks i guess.

All the commentators talk, every year, about Monaco being the jewel in F1's crown and every year the whole weekend is as dull as dishwater.
The one race on the calendar that I'm not bothered whether I watch it or not.

    Antonelli been on another planet.

Hamilton seems to be cooking his tires and with his penalty it’s the only way Leclerc is getting past him because otherwise he can’t overtake. Leclerc can just carry on going and drive to 2-3 secs behind at this rate

Something doesn’t feel right about these pit lane penalties. There are too many - sensor has to be in the wrong place

It's basically a 90 minute parade and hardly anything ever happens.

But half the drivers live there and i think it's contracted on the race calendar to 2035 so it's going nowhere.

Hope no one has been speeding in the pits, whilst they've had to use the pit lane...

Mercedes have truly f**ked George Russell this season haven't they
Amount of issues he's having compared to Antonelli is becoming a bit ridiculous

Ferrari have fucked Charles there. Keep track position and he beats Lewis to second. Regardless of tyres. Odd

Wow... This could be a great opportunity for Hamilton to win, if they restart the race with a standing start after the Red Flag - The Ferrari is clearly quicker at getting off the line!!

While I agree with you on the race itself, qualifying is often good at Monaco.
I’d go so far as to say it’s one of the better qualifiers on the calendar.
But yeah, the race is generally shit.

Qualifying can never be exciting in the same way as the race.
Watching the split times of the cars as they qualify is not really different from track to track.

On your first point, true, but I didn’t say it was. However, you said the whole weekend is dull, which I would contest.
If you aren’t interested in quali, that’s fine, but if you are, then the Monaco quali is often good value. The track does make a difference because at Monaco you can appreciate the skill of these drivers belting it around what is an interesting and notoriously difficult track.

At the end of the day though, in the main I agree with you. The race is the main event and it nearly always fails to deliver entertainment.

So even if hamilton beats antonelli off the line, he's got a new penalty right?
