If Iraq can be front footed and be the best version of the themselves, they can get a result here.

We've blown it - The hydration breaks break the momentum entirely.

We CANNOT allow this into the European game.

Messi at 38 (39 next week) is still unbelievable.

Haaland's goal record for Norway is insane. 51 games, 57 goals.

They're the sort of numbers you read in the history books from some random guy in 1925 when games used to end 6-3 and 7-4.

Hat trick for Messi. Makes it look so easy.

Moves level with Klose on 16 world cup goals and is 1 away from yet another record.

Been a good world cup so far but it's come alive since last night.

2 for Mbappe, 2 for Haaland and now 3 for Messi.

What can Ronaldo and Kane do tonight?

He’s so good. I don’t know if I’ll see another player this special in my lifetime.

Remember that Ronaldo should be still serving a further 2 match ban after his red against Ireland.

Haaland's record looks even better when you compare it with Mbappe, one of the best strikers of this generation and has been running the show for France for the past 8 years.

Austria have a goal disallowed for handball via VAR. I thought in the EPL if an attacking player  accidentally handles the ball but another player scores it’s a goal.

Austria score just after the water break. 2-1

Messi becomes the first player ever to play in 6 World Cups.

He is Argentina's youngest world cup goalscorer, and is now also the oldest.

He is now the joint highest scorer ever with 16 goals (level with Klose).

And it was his 200th international cap.

On a side note, it's always been an incredible achievement for any player to get 100 international caps. England for example only have 10 players in 150 years who have reached that milestone.

We now have Ronaldo and Messi with 200, and Modric is currently on 198.

Just caught up on Messi's hat-trick - goalkeeper (Zidane's kid?) should have saved the first and not spilled the second, but who cares?  Fantastic from Messi.  Fantastic day of football all round, in fact.

Timing of that Austria game is a bit bizarre. Game finished at 11pm local time in San Francisco, which is 2am on the east coast. Not exactly going to capture the attention of American fans.

I don't know why they need to have a 1 hour gap between each fixture. I don't see why a game can't kick off just as one is finishing, or at most have a 15 minute gap. Instead of 8pm, 11pm, 2am, 5am it could easily be 8, 10.15, 12.30, 2.45

In a day when there's 4 fixtures, it's 3 hours of dead time.

Although just caught up on the rest of the highlights - was he lucky not to be sent off at 1-0?

Think so, although I don’t think he meant it.

I see 37 year old Marko Arnautović scored a penalty for Austria, another of those players I hadn't seen for years and had assumed would have retired by now!
