We look very good going forward but a decent attacking team will crucify us
Given how we've gone forward, it'll probably end 7-7
France vs. Norway / Spain vs. Uruguay / Portugal vs. Colombia / Argentina vs. Austria will be our rivals real tests
France looked dodgy as defensively yesterday and their keeper is poor. Spain might be the only decent defensive side out there. Modern footballers can’t defend.

Three points, job done. Tuchel might know what he's doing after all.

Can see why clubs are going to spend huge amounts on Elliott Anderson, quality
We got more chance of signing Fred Elliott

Lots of talk about of defence, and I agree it’s not elite.

However, Portugal were caused problems by DRC.
France conceded plenty of chances against Senegal
    Germany conceded to Curacao

I don’t think there are really any elite defences this tournament. Even if we can tighten up a bit we will be strong.

    Very good contest.
Nice result from England there, mustn't be complacent in the remaining two games in the group.

Good going forward, shakey at the back. The quandary Southgate battled with for all those tournaments. His approach was to shore up the defending at the expense of the attacking. Based on todays, Tuchel is taking the opposite approach. Will be interesting to see if that can take us further.

Nothing's decided after game one though. Main thing is they got the job done and there's signs of something to build on. Happy enough with that!

i am old enough to remember what everyone was saying about brazil  in usa 94-france 98 - "oh they are an attacking team, but get behind them..."

That’s the perfect introduction to a tournament. Good team, made us work, we pushed through.

    Great night
  • Brilliant. We're winning this tournament.

We take those. We have a clear style and plan and it seems everyone knows their job. I doubted Tuchel but that barring two mistakes and a ropey first 5 mins was a stellar performance.

Strange as it may seem , if I’m not mistaken, I reckon Jordan Pickford had more touches of the ball than any other player on the pitch.🫢

Compare that opening game with who other big nations have had to go up against and after a bit of a rough start we've blown away a much better side than a lot of other teams have had to deal with. France laboured to beat a decent Senegal side, Netherlands drew with Japan, Brazil drew with Morocco but Spain drew with Cape Verde, Portugal drew with DR Congo, Belgium couldn't beat Egypt, and Haiti actually lost to Scotland. We could have scored 6 or 7 there and I think we'll tidy up the errors at the back quite quickly. Great start

Kane usually starts these tournaments so slowly but he was looks bang on it.

Maybe helps he’s had a rest since Bayern’s season ended almost a month ago.

Great seeing the players drinking in the atmosphere after the whistle, fans and players together.

Think that first half will stand us in good stead.

We will be working on that defending.

Learned more there than from cruising 4-0

Was injured two years ago, whereas this time he's had a blinder of a season then a bit more of a break than PL players.

Yep he was definitely carrying an injury the last tournament and he's gonna make up for it this time 🙌

Guehi and Rashford should be starting next game. Admittedly only seen Gordon play about 15 - 20 times, but he’s never ever impressed me - how on earth has he got a move to Barcelona?
