Says someone living in France. Why don’t you come back? Sure you would love it.jimmymelrose said:This heatwave is mental.
It was 35 degrees at 10pm yesterday.
41 degrees now at 6pm
The pool water is 32 degrees. We're bloody fortunate, unlike most, to have a pool.
The greenhouse with doors and windows open to the maximum has literally gone off the scale of a maximum of 60 degrees.
Edit as I just went into the garden. It's 6pm. My thermometer (in the shade) reads 44 degrees. The water is 33.5!
Maybe people will actually consider voting Green and stop worrying about immigration, like it's the sole thing to worry about, and like it isn't also a consequence of climate change anyway.1 -

CCTV caught the moment that Southend Pier was struck by lightning last night.9 -
What have I missed here? The usual mob hijacking another thread?9

The storm last night wasn't something in hadn't previously experienced in Britain, yet some people don't believe there is anything to worry about. Also storms usually signal the end of a heatwave.2 -
It's always easy to work out what the GB News word of the week is. This week's is 'hijacking'7

People discussing the way the heat has affected them, their daily lives and their houses and mentioning climate adaptation in the context of what needs to be done so our lives are less affected by more frequent heatwaves. Others then jump on it claiming its been "turned into the climate change thread" and when people respond they accuse them of derailing the thread.9 -
Gotcha. Cheers squire 👍cantersaddick said:

I think I need to call the paramedics, for the first time since I can remember, I don’t want any dinner. Just don’t fancy eating anything7

Not entirely accurate. The biggest effect on maximum temperatures is the sea surface temperatures (SSTs) around our coasts hence yesterday not reaching 24C here in NW Kent. May's heatwave was even more impressive because generally the SSTs were below average. Even though they have recovered and are up to 5C above average in some places, a sea breeze off the sea can greatly affect temperatures. Hence the June maximum record not being broken .... yet. Mid to 3rd week of July is generally accepted as the 'sweet' spot for record high temperatures.cantersaddick said:The annoying thing about this heatwave is that it happens to fall right around the longest days of the year. If it was in late August when the days are shorter that little bit of extra time before the sun comes up and after it sets would make a real difference to airing the house out and getting temperature down before the day and before bed.

We went to the Thanet coast yesterday and the temperature was comfortable. In Ramsgate and Botany Bay there was a pleasant breeze, but we also stopped at Herne Bay and there the wind was quite strong with a lower temperature. Still very pleasant though.Hex said:

I was more meaning that practically trying to manage the house by airing it out when the sun's gone down or before it rises it would be nice to have less hours of sunshine even if only a little. I guess I was comparing managing a house in this temperature now vs late August with less hours of sunshine. Does that make sense or am I still barking up the wrong tree?0 -
About 2 degrees difference between outside and in now. Another hour will open the house up.Will water the garden at the same time, needs a good drench with the hose.0

Little bit warm today, I've had to actually open the victorian sash windows designed to create a cooling draft by air flow around the window even where there is no wind. Amazing really.0

Had to go to the vets today. The air con in there was great and it felt really cool. Walked out of there and the heat hit me, it felt like that moment you step off the plane in a hot country.4

Bit of a breeze here in South East London now. I've opened up now and its blowing through lovely.fenlandaddick said:About 2 degrees difference between outside and in now. Another hour will open the house up.Will water the garden at the same time, needs a good drench with the hose.0 -
