As it stands, the likely round of 32:

    Germany v Paraguay
    France v Sweden
    South Korea v Switzerland
    Morocco v Netherlands

    Croatia v Portugal
    Spain v Austria
    USA v Bosnia
    Belgium v Czechia

    Brazil v Japan
    Ivory Coast v Norway
    Mexico v Scotland
    England v DR Congo

    Argentina v Uruguay
    Australia v Egypt
    Canada v Algeria
    Colombia v Ghana
Now everyone has played twice, and running thousands of simulations based on Betfair Exchange odds for the final group games, here are the most likely R32 fixtures:

    Germany v Paraguay (46.5% likely)
    France v Sweden (50.2%)
    South Korea v Switzerland (49.9%)
    Netherlands v Morocco (53.5%)

    Colombia v Croatia (23.2%)
    Spain v Austria (61.3%)
    USA v Bosnia (69.3%)
    Egypt v Czechia (13.4%)

    Brazil v Japan (39.7%)
    Ivory Coast v Norway (78.1%)
    Mexico v Scotland (49.8%)
    England v DR Congo (44.6%)

    Argentina v Cape Verde (55.0%)
    Australia v Belgium (36.5%)
    Canada v Algeria (17.3%)
    Portugal v Ghana (27.7%)

Teams in bold are confirmed in position as group winners.

Following the completion of Groups A, B and C:

    Germany v Paraguay (46.1%)
    France v Sweden (39.9%)
    South Africa v Canada (100%)
    Netherlands v Morocco (80.7%)

    Portugal v Croatia (23.0%)
    Spain v Austria (61.6%)
    USA v Bosnia (99.9%)
    Egypt v South Korea (50.2%)

    Brazil v Japan (61.8%)
    Ivory Coast v Norway (78.4%)
    Mexico v Scotland (23.5%)
    England v DR Congo (45.0%)

    Argentina v Cape Verde (55.6%)
    Australia v Belgium (35.6%)
    Switzerland v Algeria (42.6%)
    Colombia v Ghana (28.0%)

Teams in bold locked in position. Simulation cannot make up its mind on which ties Colombia and Portugal end up in - a true coin toss scenario.

Other than that, it looks like Scotland are the most vulnerable with Mexico having numerous possible opponents.

I'd like to know where this famous Scottish fighting spirit is...
the local bars ran out of it…

Dykes should have started those last two games. He spent half a season up front for Charlton where he had to let the opposition defence know he was there. He would have given them a backbone from the start.

Thanks to South Africa winning last night, they need a minor miracle for that to happen.

Cabo Verde / Belgium are the two obvious ones you'd be worried about as a Scotland fan
But in Cabo Verde's Group are Uruguay who are only on 2-pts themselves and face Spain so could save them
Even then DR Congo could knock them out, as they've got Uzbekistan to end with

Suprised by how poor South Korea have been. There's a lot of technical ability in that team but they seem to be playing an ugly brand of football. I notice they've kept the same manager on from their 2014 WC disaster.

Just had a look at the as it stands knockout rounds, if things go as predicted England if they get themselves into gear will never have a better chance to get to the final.

    Group A - done
    Group B - done
    Group C - Scotland have -3 GD
Group D - a Paraguay win by no more than 3, a draw or Australia win by just 1 goal, puts them both above Scotland.
Group E - Scotland need Germany and Ivory Coast to win (or 2 draws)
Group F - if Sweden don't lose by more than 3 they will be above Scotland
Group G - Belgium should beat NZ, which means they need Egypt to beat Iran.
Group H - If Spain beat Uruguay, then 3rd in this group cannot finish above Scotland.
Group I - a Senegal win v Iraq puts them above Scotland
Group J - a draw, Austria win by no more than 1 goal, or Algeria win by no more than 3 puts them above Scotland.
Group K - a Congo win v Uzbekistan puts them above Scotland
Group L - a Croatia win or draw and any 3rd placed side is above Scotland.

I'd say that Groups E & H are probably the most likely to go in their favour.
    F, I, K & L seem unlikely to go their way.

Which basically means they are quite likely praying for 2 groups out of D, G & J to go their way.

Head to head records being ahead of goal difference is so crap.  There's less jeopardy and drama in the group stage anyway with 3 teams going through in 8 groups, but H2H means even more has already been decided before the last games.
I have a theory that they made the group stage of this World Cup as stupid as they possibly could so that they can expand it to 64 teams next time, safe in the knowledge that everyone will just be happy it’s not this shitshow again.
They would’ve got a lot of backlash if they’d expanded from 32 to 64 in one step, so this was their next best option.
64 is far too big in my opinion, but at least it would work properly and would make sense.
Italy might even qualify in a 64 team one.
Italy must surely be looking at Bosnia having qualified from their group and wondering how on earth things worked out this way.

The reason, of course, being that it happened because Italy were unable to beat Bosnia in a playoff.
Italy shouldn’t be relying upon the play offs in the first place. To those of us of a certain generation it’s unbelievable how they can repeatedly be so shit. Funny, but unbelievable.
    .

For 2018 Italy were in a qualifying group with Spain.

I would not laugh at them too much with UEFAs new idea for qualifying groups the top teams are going to have to play some other top teams. With Englands record against other top teams we could end up in the play offs.

And any team can lose a one off play-off match.

Not sure how that hasn't been ruled out. VAR is odd.

You will never see a higher foot than that. I mean, fair play to him for getting it that high, but it's a free kick all day long.

    Only it's not, apparently.

I know they are cruising having already qualified but so far this German team haven’t looked like they will pose any threat to the top teams. Saying that watch them knock France out lol

Sadly it's wirtz rather than wurst... Though apparently it does mean "innkeeper"
