I would like to think Apter in particular will be given a chance in pre-season to prove himself, he won player of the month in his first month in the Championship playing out of position - he’s clearly got something about him.
Tanto is a strange one because he’s got all the pace and physicality for this league but his touch and finishing are not at the level needed.11 -
Absolutely agree with this. Would give Apter preseason , maybe even get a look at him in the 3421 as a second no10 with his best mate Sonny.Covered_End_Lad said:I would like to think Apter in particular will be given a chance in pre-season to prove himself, he won player of the month in his first month in the Championship playing out of position - he’s clearly got something about him.

Olaofe has all the physical attributes Nathan loves in a striker but his technique lets him down. I get the idea of thinking you can teach the rest but he's just way too raw. Will be one we'll have to take a significant haircut on. Right profile wrong player ultimately.1 -
TC needs to prove himself first half of the season before we should even start to think about a new deal …NabySarr said:
I think TC and Ramsay will maybe wait and see what we do this summer to see if we match their ambitions. I think it’s pretty likely both are sold though because they will both have plenty of interest from championship clubs that will probably pay them more than we willElfsborgAddick said:

In hindsight quite a lot of the signings last summer were gambles - could Carey bring his goal scoring to the Championship? (Yes), would we be able to take the physicality of Olaofe and hone the technical side (no), would Kelman be able to retain his cutting edge (kind of, eventually), would Apter be able to get the discipline and fitness to switch to wingback (no.)Covered_End_Lad said:I would like to think Apter in particular will be given a chance in pre-season to prove himself, he won player of the month in his first month in the Championship playing out of position - he’s clearly got something about him.

Its all sliding doors honestly, there's probably another universe where Carey is anonymous but Olaofe scores 10 goals assisted by Apter or something.
This year I think we're definitely needing to go for players who can and have proven themselves at this level rather than gambling again but I think even the ones that failed last season were signed for good reasons but just didn't quite work out.12 -
TC to replace Thomas ……. did you watch both of them play last season they are worlds apart …MarcusH26 said:

TC I can see us not being short of interest in , enough sides at this level that play with out and out width. Sheffield United to replace Andre Brooks and Stoke if Thomas goes would be 2 of the sides I would assume would target TC.4 -
Apter had a decent first month but I think he was massively overrated by our fanbase in general. He’s clearly got talent but if he doesn’t have the rest then he won’t make it in the championshipI heard from a Blackpool fan that Jones had picked Apter out as a poor trainer pretty much as soon as he joined us. Bollocked him early on with something along the lines of we’ve paid 2 million for you so we expect you to put a shift in hereMaybe last season and his failed loan will have humbled Apter and he might come back a changed man this summer. However, I don’t feel like Jones is someone that is easy to win back trust from once you’ve lost it so I’d expect he will go back to league 1 on loan. Hopefully he does better than he did at Bolton, and then we might recoup some of our fee next summer4

Nathan Jones won’t be altering how he plays football to accommodate Rob Apter.MarcusH26 said:

And he definitely shouldn’t. Loads of our fans last season were saying we should change to 4-2-3-1 to get Apter back in the team. Thankfully Jones didn’t and we stayed up, while Apter couldn’t hold down a spot in a league one 4-2-3-1 showing just how badly that would have gone for usAberystwythAddick said:

Out of Apter, Ahadme and Tanto I think the only one who has even the faintest chance of rehabilitating his football career at Charlton is Tanto.
Ahadme tries to make a difference but isn’t good enough, Apter might be good enough but hardly tries to make a difference.
The idea that Ahadme stays but Kanu goes, or Apter stays but Anderson goes does not sit well with me.
We are not talking of Asimwe much, I wonder what the future holds for him, good lad that he is.4 -
Thomas's stats at this level before this season were incredibly similar to TCs last season actually. 3-4 goals a season type numbers and a 5 year age gap to TC.RonnieMoore said:

No reason why with the right management whether that's with us or elsewhere if he so decides why TC can't be an 8-10 goal winger at this level.4 -

Thomas averaged 10 assists a season over 3 previous seasons in the championship. His goals were lower as he was playing as a traditional winger rather than a wide forward like this year. He was widely considered one of the best wingers in the championship - his numbers were absolutely nothing like TCs. I think TC has potential but the comparison is not on pointMarcusH26 said:

Also Apter and Tanto would have been offered low Championship wages by us, so will struggle to get the same money in L1, especially after unsuccessful loan spells last season.MarcusH26 said:
I'm just wondering what kind of fee we'd ultimately recoup, was it £1m+ add-on's we originally paid? I don't know how many League 1 clubs would give us £500k for Tanto and hope they can get him firing.stjohnshill said:
A lot of League 1 clubs were in for Tanto in Jan. Naturally he went back to Stockport . Strangely the loan didn’t go to plan.MarcusH26 said:
Would be surprised if they found a taker for Olaofe. Think that's going to be the difficult one to shift along with Ahadme.stjohnshill said:Was mentioned to me earlier looks like one is incoming but couldn’t get a name so didn't post about it. Now looks like that player is Big Billy Koumetio. As for outgoings - club want to offload everyone who went out on loan on perm deals minus Mbick who the current plan is to loan out again. However, many L1 clubs will still be interested. A bad 6 months/wrong move is easily forgivable in football.
I think we will struggle to move both on permanently unless they are prepared to take a pay cut.1 -

Yes we will, within two minutes of signing the player someone will moan about him.Cafc451 said:Will we sign anyone before Dartford fc on friday?.8 -
Yeah I think we might be looking at our typical deadline day situation with a few of these being shifted last minute to whoever will take them whilst we pay basically all of their wages.killerandflash said:

Perhaps Thomas has more clinical strikers to create chances for, compared to TC at Charlton?Bostonaddick said:

TC created plenty of chances last season, but few were converted.
He'll only be credited with an assist if the striker actually scores.
"Assists" ....the most misleading statistic in football.
Better perhaps to count goalscoring chances created?

Our low budget approach was very successful last year - we stayed up that was the target. I feel people get carried away with our situation of not having any money to spend in previous season (because of cowboy 🤠 owners) and then suddenly every player we sign hasTodds_right_hook said:

Criminal that we spent a few quid on two players who were f***** off after 5 months.fenaddick said:The question with a player like Tanto is is it worth loaning him out in the hope he has a great season and improves his value? I can't see his value dropping much unless he has a truly torrid time so it might be worth the risk
I do not like criticising Jones but this was not good.
to be great in their first season…
Name me a club who got promoted and every player purchased was a success??? (you’ll find the answer is none)
considering our strategy was buy a mix of experienced at champo level and best performing league one players with potential of might be able to step up to a better league - we have done really well.HITS (still need development, apart from Bell who will have limited game time due to age and fitness)Carey
Bell
Kelman
Sichenje
Kaminski
knibbs (? Injury plagued season)
Clarke
OK (but either injury prone or need upgrading)
Burke
Costello
Dykes
Chambers
Coady (too expensive)
Miss
Apter
Olafae
So suddenly 7 good players looks good imo1 -

Get your point but watching the games you can’t say our strikers missed 3/4 chances a match they only had 1 or 2 chances a match if they were lucky and TC only having 3 assists all season is a major part of that .. we need betterOggy Red said:

The showreel for the latest rumoured player is one of the worst I have ever seen.
But reasons I suppose.
It basically looks like a constant series of won headers, Lloyd Jones style if you like.
I hope there is other impressive stuff we haven’t been exposed to yet.
