Ivan Mesik Signs on a Four Year Deal
Charlton Athletic are delighted to announce the signing of Slovakia international Ivan Mesík.
The 25-year-old, left-sided defender joins the Addicks from Dutch side Heracles Almelo for an undisclosed fee.
Mesík has put pen to paper on a four-year contract to become the club’s first signing of the summer transfer window.
“I feel amazing," explained Mesík. "I've had a good welcome here, so it feels great from the start and I can’t wait to get started.
“I've heard the stories about the fans, they're amazing - always putting a lot of energy into the team - so I can’t wait to meet them here and I hope we'll be successful together.”
Manager Nathan Jones said: "We’re delighted to add Ivan to the squad. We’ve monitored him for a while and he comes with real good pedigree playing in the Eredivisie. He’s a player that we’re excited about - he’s an excellent athlete, a great size and very versatile in terms of being able to play down the left-hand side and can cover the right side as well.
“He’s someone that’s really hungry to do well. We beat off an awful lot of competition to get him and he'll provide a wonderful option down that left-hand side.”
Managing Director James Rodwell added: "As with the signing of Collins Sichenje in February, Ivan is a player we’ve tracked for a long time. We’re being targeted in our recruitment and looking to cast the net further and wider when identifying potential signings.
“Ivan has a profile we believe fits our long‑term plan, and we’re confident he has the potential to grow with us as we continue to build in a sustainable way.”
Born in Banská Bystrica, Slovakia, Mesík began his youth career at hometown club MFK Dukla Banská Bystrica before joining Spartak Trnava, where he earned his professional debut in May 2019.
Following an impressive 2019/20 campaign, the defender signed a five-year deal with Danish Superliga side Nordsjælland.
Loan spells followed in Norway at Stabæk Fotball and Odds BK before Mesík earned his first call-up to the Slovakia senior team in the summer of 2022.
After two successful seasons with Italian side Pescara, he moved to Heracles in June 2024 and has since earned 63 Eredivisie appearances.
Mesík has three international caps to his name having made his Slovakia debut in a Nations League clash against Slovenia in March 2025.

I don't think anyone had "Slovakian defender from Heracles Almelo" on their bingo card as our first signing!
Welcome Ivan46 -
Guessing he's the Edwards upgrade rather than the Gillesphey? Good stuff1

Seems a decent profile. And so it starts....7

Will Ferry who?0

Slovakian left back. Started 63/68 games for Heracles over the last two seasons so seems dependable in terms of availability.Heracles did get relegated with only 19 points from 34 games last season.5

Welcome to Charlton Ivan.
Hopefully you will have a very successful time at the Valley6 -
Absolutely love this. Even if he turns out to be shit it’s much more exciting than signing a 35 year old LCB that’s just after a final payday. Someone like Shane Duffy etc.
Looking forward to seeing him in action.31 -

Looks like a hard bastard. He says he’s Technically sound, loves to be on the ball but his first job is to defend. He’s a centre back that fan play either side so I’d assume he’s the lcb replacement for Gillesphey15

I love an out of the blue signing. Welcome Ivan.12
