Thank you. Almost got it right but like a lot of investment advisors, it was mainly a guess!0

I'm happy with the bronze medal and even happier that I ignored my financial adviser's advice after 2 years of substantial losses, withdrew the funds and turned a 20% loss into a 15% profit in 2 years.4

Moral victory. The index was pulling away from your prediction yesterday & today and mine was closer 3 hrs before the close.LargeAddick said:

It's a bit like being lapped and then the leader's car blowing up on the final bend with the laggards passing it minutes later.

Anyone else pick up on this (apologies if already posted).Lesson here - don't leave the large family home to your children. Significantly trade down or even sell and rent in older age.

Just the usual guff we get around Budget time. Sometimes its feelers put out by the Treasury & sometimes it's just scaremongering.bobmunro said:Anyone else pick up on this (apologies if already posted).Lesson here - don't leave the large family home to your children. We are starting to feed the kids money, well, the two oldest. Youngest will have to wait.bobmunro said:Anyone else pick up on this (apologies if already posted).Lesson here - don't leave the large family home to your children. Significantly trade down or even sell and rent in older age.
Not leaving much when I get to that age 😂1 -
I'm not sure if this will affect many people. For most ordinary people the house is just part of their estate, the house is sold so just IHT. If a family member did particularly want it, it could be arranged for a sale and purchase through the estate executor.bobmunro said:Anyone else pick up on this (apologies if already posted).Lesson here - don't leave the large family home to your children. I actually don't see the government getting any money except by people's ignorance, and the people being advised by lawyers.

The more of this I hear, the more it tempts me to move away from the UK.bobmunro said:Anyone else pick up on this (apologies if already posted).Lesson here - don't leave the large family home to your children. Significantly trade down or even sell and rent in older age.
that said, I’m seriously considering just taking on a decent amount of borrowing, buy my kids a house each and hope either my wife or I live 7 years. May as well be me paying the interest, then hopefully won’t be much left when I do pop my clogs and the family home would just have the debt my children would have had anyway, may even get away with no IHT.
otherwise as you say, would have to trade down in value.4 -
Good plan. I suggest you document these gifts and give them letters making it clear that they are gifts.Photollery said:

If you do get serious about moving away, you'll want to acquaint yourself with the revised IHT rules for non-residents. This is what I've been focused on in the last few months. Basically, even though you are non-resident, you will still be liable for IHT on what they call UK-situs assets above your regular IHT limit. That would include your property as well as any savings and investments that are held in British institutions. Curiously, gilts are exempt from that, which is exactly why I've been buying a load of them in the last few months.Rob7Lee said:

Agree, all documented. My wife is a Senior Partner at big 4, I’ve got to spend it all now 😂redman said:
