I didn't know Millwall can read11 -
Another vote for Richard Cawleys substack really good interviews and content each week really good value for the subscription15

He's ours Danny, only ours alright, just leave it. He's not going anywhere. Actually that is a new rumour.Danny Addick said:He calls it the ‘South London press Charlton Athletic edition’ so I wondered. But he does also go to all our games so can’t be going to theirs as well!
Is Cawley off to Palace? Read somewhere he might be.1 -
It’s just Charlton at the moment, 5000+ subscribers paying £5 a month probably makes it viable to remain just us. Agreed it’s fantastic value for money.Danny Addick said:
I subscribed for the whole of last season and I believe it’s great value. I hope he’s making enough for it to be viable. Does he do a millwall, palace version too?mart77 said:Cawley’s substack is great value. So important that he started it as we have so few journos reporting on us. Him and Louis on the pod is always a good listen.4 -

We don’t have the luxury of giving him a punt in his preferred role, and to be honest, what has he done to warrant a whole change of set up based on him. To be fair to him, he’s young, gets a move to a London club having grown up in Liverpool and may not have the infrastructure and family he had around him in the north west, but football at this level is an unforgiving game. Potential and promise is one thing, but the stark reality of not being able to deliver or at least try to deliver to what Jones wants him to do are entirely different thingsking addick said:
So just right him off then?NabySarr said:
Apter couldn’t flourish as a winger in league 1 last season, a goal against Dartford doesn’t change anything. We will be looking for better at attacking RWB than him (we won’t be playing with wingers, it will be the same system as before so it’s the Thierry Small role)king addick said:We had much more success when playing with out and out wingers because we will never dominate possession but with a solid defence to absorb pressure with your Doc's and Coventry dropping back aswell, we can counter attack to great effect.
If Redmond can chip with assists and goals then that isn't an issue with me. Plus Apter might flourish as a winger.
A goal against Dartford doesn't make him a world beater but if the system changes, does he not have a chance at performing better in his preferred role?I get football is a bit of a bubble, but at his age, you’re paying your dues. Think of any other 22 year old going into the world of work and disagreeing or not delivering on what your manager who is what 50 odd, is asking you to do. It’s just what it is. He may have an abundance of talent we’re not utilizing, but ultimately, he’s showing all the signs of a more high profile, higher value Charlie Kirk.
I’ve nothing against him, but I think the Apter ship has sailed. It was worth a punt, could’ve turned out to be an inspirational bit of business, but we now have to accept, he’s not right for us at this time4 -
Interesting Jones said last night he would have liked to had a few more in before today’s trip…CB1 said:@stjohnshill any further news on the third signing that was nearly done?
I had it confirmed to me on Thursday by two separate people that a player, (possibly Tutu) had a medical on Thursday and the deal was pretty much done.Followed up this afternoon and there is no further update which is a bit odd given what I was told on Thursday which is why I posted it on here.Could be agents mucking around last minute or maybe something has come up in the medical but those are just guesses on my part.Hopefully it gets sorted asap and they can join the rest of the squad in Slovenia22 -

Worth remembering that Apter flew out to Slovenia mid camp last year3

He can't tackle, bit of a problem for a wingback.Garrymanilow said:
Apart from when he was very good against Watford, Bristol City and Leicester as a RWB and was our player of the month for August. He's perfectly capable of carrying out the role, his output dipped when he stopped putting in the effort to track back and that cost him his place after QPR where he decided he only wanted to go forward and then against Millwall where he didn't have much defending to do and wasted his opportunity when he had the scope to attack. The things Rob Apter can do are entirely up to Rob Apter, it's just a question of whether or not he's come back willing to do what Jones wants him to. I think he can, he just has to switch his brain onSouthbank said:
Maybe, but only as a winger in a 433MrBurns said:
I believe he will come good and was disappointed when he was loaned out in January. He needs a run in the team to get his confidence back. Didn’t stop NJ from playing TC at wingback at times.Southbank said:

Re: Nathan Redmond. I appreciate the Dartford match was about getting minutes into legs and that many players are still ring rusty and not up to speed, but from what I saw on Friday evening Redmond is a cut above in terms of quality and, dare I say it, fitness (at least at the moment). Again, based on what I saw on Friday I would not be disappointed if he is signed by NJ.8

He couldn't get in the Sheffield Wednesday, nor the Blackburn team last year. We need to be aiming MUCH higherDONVANVLIET said:Re: Nathan Redmond. He was a South African Anglican bishop and theologian, known for his work as an anti-apartheid and human rights activist. He was Bishop of Johannesburg from 1985 to 1986 and then Archbishop of Cape Town from 1986 to 1996…He invented the two-all drawer in football…The Red Robin said:Who is Tutu?38 -

I didn’t go to Dartford and even if I had done I wouldn’t go by what a player did or didn’t do in that match anyway but whether it’s Redmond or any other experienced player it would be daft to simply write them off as hasbeens. We’ve brought in similar strikers like this before that have simply transformed our season. In fact, not just strikers. Quality and experience will always tell. I’ll leave it to Nathan.DONVANVLIET said:Re: Nathan Redmond. Apter has played more games at wingback than he has a CAM. Apter is a RW and a RW only need to stop this shoehorning into different positions.wmcf123 said:Southbank said:

I still can’t stop coming back to the scouting of Apter. Yes there’s a talented footballer in there but what were we thinking in signing a player that really doesn’t fit with Jones very strict set of player requirements and the way we set up. I know Jones has a reputation of changing what position players play but Apter seems to me to lack the fundamentals of what’s required by NJ. He’s not super athletic, not a grafter and die for the cause character either. Seems from the comments made by Bolton fans that he doesn’t look like he gives a flying either. Unless there has been a damascene moment over the summer for Rob and he comes back realising it’s make or break for him I really can’t see where he fits in.5

I think it's less that he can't tackle and more that he chooses not to, which is a serious problem. I actually do remember him putting in some decent tackles at the start of the season when he could be bothered, but after that he was mostly out of position when moves broke down or started letting players dribble past him because he didn't fancy it like in his disasterclass against Southampton. Which is what I'm saying; if he's willing to put the effort in he's shown the ability to do the role, it's just we need more than 3 games of it out of himSouthbank said:

Remember when we didn’t want CBT because he couldn’t get in the Tranmere team? That turned out pretty good for a year or two9

Comes right back to my point above. When we scouted him at Blackpool what was he doing then that convinced us to part with money that he’s either not able or not willing to do now ? I’d assume we had him watched over a reasonable period so must have had a good perspective of what he offered and could do. I know that we had a restrictive budget and looked to sign “top end” league one players with the hope they can step up but this guy was loaned out back to league one and bombed out big time.Garrymanilow said:
