Never get the hate for a player moving on at the end of a contract - we happily release players in the opposite situation.

He did well when he was here, helped get us up, and then left at the end of his contract.  Why boo him?

Not saying I'd give him a big cheer or anything, either.

Seems to be the default for a lot of ex-players nowadays though.
I’ve noticed this too. Some fans seem to think it’s just the done thing for all ex-players, regardless of circumstances. Which turns it all into a bit of a pantomime and devalues booing for the few who genuinely deserve it.

Perhaps you should consider changing your name to Leuthario, give these ladies a fair warning.

Well said. When we played them at The Valley Tierry came over and chatted with some fans, posed for photos with some kids and seemed a thoroughly likeable chap who had a lot of time for our supporters. He played well for us, his contract expired - he moved on, he never let us down and yet some muppets treated him with utter contempt that day and were a complete embarrassment. There are ex players worth booing but Small is not one of them in my opinion.

I wonder what these people do if a colleague leaves where they work to take a promotion or pay rise at competitor company and they bump into them in Tesco's a few months later? Do you think they boo their former colleague while they're bagging apples in the fresh produce section, and then follow them to the self-checkout to sing songs about what a greedy bastard they are?
