Breaking News: FIFA announce last minute referee replacement for the USA v Begium match!

That is clearly doctored.  If it was actually trump, he would be sleeping on the pitch

Several European FAs have issued trenchant statements in support of Belgium. “Our” FA have refused to comment on it. Sadly, not surprised in the least.

Keir Starmer has said that he would not get involved with decisions like this. That's something I guess.

Also how did he miss that?

How is that challenge on Ronaldo not a penalty compared to the one that was given against Kane?

    Pandora’s box is opening:

France have now appealed to FIFA to request Michael Olise’s yellow card against Paraguay is rescinded.
I hope, but am not so sure, that this is more to put pressure on FIFA rather than to truly get an advantage
It also definitely wasn't a yellow card.

If you're going to make the point about the US red card, it's a good one to make it on.

Does not feel like a knockout game thus far.

Spain the better team but could go either way.

Both of these get beaten by a firing France.

    From Henry Winter:

“We express our disbelief at such an unprecedented, incomprehensible and unjustifiable decision.” Uefa statement full of power and logic attacking Fifa’s ill-judged decision to reprieve Folarin Balogun. “When the certainty of rules is no longer guaranteed by its guardians, the integrity of the game is at stake.”

Huge crisis for Fifa. All eyes on Belgian FA to see what happens next. All eyes on the national associations of Europe, members of Fifa, to see whether they stand up to Gianni Infantino. The FA has too often wavered. Infantino’s decision risks a civil war in the sport during a World Cup celebrated for fans from around the world uniting in a love of the game.

think I might need new glasses. I genuinely read that and wondered why the Fonz was commenting on football

After all the excitement last night, this is a pretty dull match for a neutral.

Lots of overplaying from Spain and not taking the direct pass behind when it’s on.

Ronaldo still on the pitch.  Surely it would be better to start him off the bench, so he can be there for penalties, rather than having him lumbering around for 2 hours first.

Surprisingly poor game this. It already looks like it's going all the way to pens.

Portugal try to counter with pace, pass the ball to the 41 year old and wonder why it suddenly slowed down

The best thing that could happen now is that Belgium beat the USA convincingly on the pitch.  I was of the opinion when this venue for the World Cup was first selected that this could be the steps to the scaffold for top level football, and The Infant Ino seems to hell bent on taking it that way, even more so with this red card shitfest.
In actual fact I think the opposite is true, and that, the best thing would be for him to score a hat trick in every match and win the World Cup.
Then, and only then, could I envisage any group of countries actually finally bringing FIFA down.

Came in wanting them to win so we don't have to keep hearing about Ronaldo for another round.

But Spain are so bloody boring it's making me want Portugal to win.
