Is Pochettino moonlighting as a garage mechanic, with his outfit? All it's missing his the name patch.
(If he loses, I'm sure Trump would like to see him pumping gas)

He tripped himself up trying to get a free kick on the edge of the box and has hurt himself. What a shame.

Lukaku scores to make it 1-4 in added time and gives it large to the US fans behind the goal. Absolute cinema.

Mate if you think I claim this team as my own you are crazy. I’ve had zero connection to the USMNT my entire football fandom because of their pompous attitude that they are better than everyone because they’re American

Why do I find Americans so irritating?
I think it's because a large number of them are absolute, utter shithouses.

    HTH
Man, I'm just sat here on my couch catching strays!

No I get it. I'm not gonna delve into the whole "how we are as a people" and instead say the US basically ran into the first good team that they've played in the tournament. They beat Australia and Paraguay in the group stage but neither of those sides are very good. And then Bosnia are a very limited side.

Belgium were always going to be different gravy and they basically made easy work of the US without really having to get out of second gear. I don't think Belgium are that great, I just think the US are a limited side who Poch got playing well for a couple of weeks. The myth of Pulisic is just that. Malik Tillman is is actually the best player in the team. But in the end the US were just trying to hit Balogun in the channels. Which almost worked once or twice, but it just showed the limitations of the US midfield.

I've long said this US "Golden Generation" both isn't that golden but also they're better athletes than footballers. And this has long been a problem for the US. As a nation we're getting better at developing footballers but we're just eons behind. Another time I can write about the "pay to play" awful structure that goes on here.

End of the day, this is about the US' level right now.

Three quarter finals are sorted then, one more to go. 5 of the 6 confirmed quarter finalists are European.

    - Thursday: France v Morocco, 9pm U.K. kick off
    - Friday: Spain v Belgium, 8pm U.K. kick off
    - Saturday: England v Norway, 10pm U.K. kick off

Very very enjoyable watching USA go out. Unsurprisingly classless from some of there big names to stay in the dugout instead of come out and shake Belgium players hands.

If I was a Portuguese fan, I'd be furious Ronaldo stayed on to the end. Was it a Testimonial match for him?
One of my sixth form students is Portuguese and he’s been absolutely raging that Ronaldo has apparently been undroppable for the last couple of years. He tells me that his whole family and every Portuguese person he knows is frustrated with Ronaldo. They love what he’s done in the past, but they think his influence has been detrimental to the team recently.
At the beginning of the World Cup he said to me that the only chance Portugal had was if Ronaldo got injured in the group stage and couldn’t play again. The fact that his selection is keeping younger forwards with potential on the bench is what annoys him the most.
His consistent verdict has been “Ronaldo doesn’t play for Portugal, he plays for Ronaldo.”
The mad thing is that Fernando Santos had done the hard work at the last World Cup, dropped Ronaldo one knockout game and had him as a sub the other.

Then Martinez comes in and whether he was told Ronaldo plays or he's decided himself, made him undroppable.again, wasting any chance a good Portugal squad had in both Euro2024 and this World Cup.
This is the thing i can't understand. Surely Martinez knows that Ramos was a better option up front for them, he even brought him on in their last game and he scored a late winner. So why keep him on the bench for the entire game?

Was he told by the Portuguese FA that Ronaldo had to start because of sponsors or something?

The end result is that Portugal fail to deliver yet again and now Martinez has resigned. And the laughable thing in all this is that after the game Ronaldo didn't even say he's now retiring from international football, only that he will have a think about his future.

Just retire from international football, do 1 more season in Saudi to get your 1,000 goals (he's on 976), as we all know that's the only reason he is still playing, and then retire completely by which time you'll be 42.
