    If James Beadle goes to Birmingham it will be as number 1 at least to start the season instead of Ryan Allsop who played 38 games last season for the Brum.

    James played 38 games for Sheffield Wednesday in the Championship so Brighton who are trying to nurture him until they feel he can have the Jersey at Brighton IF he continues to progress.

    Football is so competitive that it's never a Shay Given that the top young talent rise to the top but coming from a Charlton supporting family I wish James Beadle success when/if he gets to be number 1 at Brighton.

    Wishing James luck at Birmingham if he goes there i can't do unless it's advantageous to Charlton.

    No, I'll happily wish him a fabulous time, with 44 clean sheets and player of the season, as long as they're all nil nil draws apart from when we do the double over them.

    His family certainly lived round the corner from me in Sidcup and then moved to Bexley. I might be wrong but I believe that James may have followed in the footsteps of his brother - Birkbeck Primary then Hurstmere before switching to Harris Academy which has a link up with Charlton.

    Delighted for them, his dad when our paths crossed was a top bloke. Really hope James ends up back at Charlton at some stage

    James will be playing in the U21 Final for England, having been part of the team that beat the Netherlands earlier today 2-1. In this same week it was announced that his brother, Harry, has joined Dover Athletic. For every James there are hundreds of Harrys but both, as former Academy products, let alone Charlton fans through and through, deserve our support in equal measure.

    Incredible to think that he was only 22 yesterday but he's already made over 100 appearances for Sheffield Wednesday and Birmingham. By that age Pope had played just 20 minutes for us and was being sent out on loan to the likes of Cambridge United (Conference), Aldershot, York and Bury (all League 2). The same thing happened to Robbie Elliott and Darren Randolph.

    Weird one with James, most of the accounts I see of him from Birmingham fans seem to be critical of his performances but he’s obviously highly rated. 

    Weirdly if he’d stayed with us he most likely would’ve played even more games than he has.

    On the theme of England Youth keeps, I wonder if moving on Mannion (a yr left on his contract and prone to errors) and bringing in Tommy Setford from Arsenal is something to consider.

    He is supposedly available for loan but the lack of senior game time is a concen

    We would have sent Beadle out on loan. It's what clubs do when they want keepers to learn their trade and make those early mistakes for other clubs and exactly what we did with Pope, Elliott and Randolph. That would have been at at a National League or League 2 club had he been with us. 

    Moving to a PL club not only means more money but also, potentially, being loaned out to a Championship club. He went to Oxford at 19 in the League 1 in the early part of 2023/24 but then went to Sheffield Wednesday for the second half of that season. Jones would not have risked a 19 year-old when promotion was the goal. Equally, being at Brighton and getting that Championship experience, meant a call up for the England national squad as well as becoming the England U21 keeper.
