France v England | World Cup Bronze Final | 18 July 2026

Anyone bothered? Might see some fringe players get some minutes.

If England win the game it will be officially their second best ever World Cup campaign, since they lost the 3rd place game in both 1990 (2-1 to Italy) and 2018 (2-0 to Belgium).

Genuinely couldn't give a toss about it.

Expect Mbappe to play and score a hat trick to get the golden boot, whilst we play all the fringe players

Not watching. I really have no faith in England now. We've shown too many times that even in good positions we totally capitulate.

I hope we stand aside and let him roll in the goals so Messi misses out.

Hard to muster any interest (less still enthusiasm) for this one. I’ll make more of an effort to catch some of our friendly at Gillingham.

On a human level, I hope he gives a few of the fringe players some game time, given they’ve been away with the squad for around 6 weeks.

It’s cooler to lose this game anyway. Only nerds/teacher’s pets would care about winning it.

I don’t want to but I will no doubt get drawn into it when I can’t find anything else to watch 😩

It’s the International equivalent of a Tuesday night playing Brentford U21s in a Johnstone Paints Trophy group game.

I think this is a damaging side effect of Wednesday’s debacle. When Southgate took over, the relationship between the England fans and team, and overall belief in the team, was at an all time low.

He worked very hard to rebuild that and, despite the fact that England still failed to win anything and kept getting beaten any time they played a higher ranked team, the Team had fans back onside and we all had genuine hope again.

That probably actually peaked at this tournament after the Mexico game and I think they could have lost on Wednesday and still gone home with the fans’ backing but there’s a real danger that the level of the capitulation has erased a lot of sympathy and good will to this group of players. We could be back in a situation where only winning is going to be good enough. Back to the old days of unrealistic expectations and pressure being another burden on the players.

I think it’s hard to think of a more damaging 25 minutes of football.

Not sure I’m over Wednesday yet, had the trip of a lifetime booked and spent the last 2 days haggling with Spaniards about my tickets

France can’t be that bad again and Tuchel will probably go hung ho for this one and we get tonked

Either way I am not too fussed but will watch it

Give Mainoo and Watkins a go

Don’t understand why Tuchel keeps digging a hole for himself. I’d be a bit more forgiving if he came out, said he got it wrong, he’d learn from it and we move on. As it is I think he should go.

Both teams should agree to play two at the back and load the forward lines. 10+ goals by each team should be the aim. If FiFA are OK with political statements then England and France should make a fucking big one.

I don't like the way it's now not called the 3rd place play off like it used to be. Pointless game which should be scrapped.

I just want him to play Henderson in goal. Jordan Henderson. This game isn’t going to be good, it can at least be funny

If I don’t drop off, I’m planning to watch it only so I can scream “wanker” at the scream anytime some wanker refers to it as the bronze final.

Also because I’ve heard Tuchel is planning to start with 2 goalkeepers on the pitch…

I don't normally dip into threads I have no interest in, so apologies if anyone is - but genuinely what is the point in this game? Literally every player on both teams just wants to go home now - please tell me at least that there is no extra time and they just go straight to penalties after 90 if needed??

Also it's mad that any goals scored in this count towards the golden boot.

Just hopped onto BBC sport website and the game isn't even in the "top stories" bit so presume it's on ITV

Have to stay up to give someone a lift late at night, otherwise I'd be in bed.

I’m not especially fussed either way about Mainoo, specifically, but it does seem mad that Rice is starting given his injury and illness struggles at the tournament.

My only comment on this match is I can't get excited about it but intend to watch.

But surely there is one single  word that we should remember tonight .

    Pride.
