Not saying he's the solution, but as a backup, could Redmond be used in the middle of the park? Technically very good, and can pick a pass out. Just probably lost the pace to be a winger now.
No chance. A Nathan Jones no 10
needs a hell of an engine and positional discipline
No I agree with that, I was thinking more of an 8 in the middle to sit between a Cov/Doc and Carey/Knibbs.
That player usually is Doc, have you seen how much he runs?
Let Doc do the running and Redmond can do the passing 😁
Or we could just sign a centre mid instead of shoehorning a washed up winger there
Captain Obvious. Redmond on trial, discussing how he might be used if he signs but let's just skip to your point.
If we sign him, we probably won’t play him in a position he’s never ever played in before and one which he is completely unsuitable for.
He's now unsuitable for the position he has played for his career. We used Coady in midfield, hardly a stretch to discuss.
Coady had played in midfield before though, has Redmond?
Well we know he's played attacking midfield. Do you think at 32, with his experience he couldn't?
Redmond in CM, I can’t believe how many comments this is getting. Actually ridiculous thinking he could play in the 8 role, should try Leaburn at CB at this rate.

Clearly with 4 more hopefully coming in 2 of them will be midfielders. Which we will spend money on. Not a bloody washed up 32 year old on trial 😂😂😂
I'm simply dying on this hill 😆

If Kelman is out for the start of the season then I actually think Kanu would be the most like for like option to replace him, and therefore probably start wouldn’t he?
I think he’d be behind Leaburn, Godden and now Grant in the pecking order to be the main striker. Decent chance we keep Kanu around a bit longer though now Kelman is injured
Grant will not be the main striker. I doubt Godden can manage much of a game. Without Kelman we are very light up front. If Dykes or another come in then Kanu may go, if not I doubt it.
Leaburn, Godden, Kanu, Mbick, Olaofe, Grant “light”
I think Olaofe and Godden may go if the right bids come in.
Godden? What a few weeks after he’s signed a new deal?
I did say the 'right deal' Large. The club took the option of a year, that protects the club but also gives Godden security whilst he looks beyond leaving Charlton at the end of next season. If someone came in and offered him a two year deal in division one then he would probably be wise to take it, in that division he would be very useful and see out that two year deal, he won't get that long in the championship. It's a big maybe, but it's happened before.
They didn’t take the option, he signed a new 12 month deal
    Apologies Fen, you are correct.
Still think he’ll be sold then?

    Cov/Doc Carey/Knibbs is a relegation midfield
Didn’t realise we got relegated last season, real shame that
We needed a very old and immobile Coady to get them over the line after a very good start though

Our midfield on their day can be good enough but far far too inconsistent and they’re only suited to a specific type of game otherwise they get outclassed and that applies to every single one of them, I don’t believe we have a single midfielder who can play in any type of environment

Not a good idea to be signing players who have had serious hamstring injuries imo. I know WBA offered Grant a new contract but it was probably reduced due to his operation. Redmond also has suffered from hamstring problems which has restricted his appearances in recent seasons.

Would have been reduced terms as the 6 year deal he signed with them in 2020 was in the Prem so would have been significant wages

Should release Leaburn and Bell then too, right?

If we are playing 4-2-3-1 Rak Sakyi is the missing piece for me.

Leaburn is our problem and most people would agree that he has not been the same player.
Bell was playing fairly regularly for Luton when he signed. Grant has probably not played since his op and Redmond doesn't look the player he once was.

Hasselbaink arrived with a big arse, he was awful.   Jaiyesimi or Mansfield as he was popularly known, also had an extremely fat arse and was also poor.  Take a look at Aribo, he’s also got a big bum and in my opinion, is absolutely on the wrong end of the rump scale to be effective

    Yaya Toure disagrees

    Kelman?
100% his arse is too wide - a wide bum is the enemy

This is still a Nathan Jones team no matter the formation, is Rak-Sayki going to track back no, is he going to get stuck in no, is he going to press from the front no, I could not think of a player less suited to our style than he is.

    good player wrong side.

All things being equal. Who of our squad are not going to make the first game through injury ? Kelman, Edward’s, Mbick, Sichenje. Anyone else ?
Still got a few friendlies and a cup games worth of injuries yet
What is the problem with Sichenje? Same injury as at the end of last season?

Assume so. There's been no update from the club though.

Would like to see the departures of Kanu and Mitchell this week to free up the space for more.

Unfortunately I can’t see Apter or Olaofe getting moves until later on in the window, if not final day where we have to take a hit on the wages.  Be great if we can move them on to, sooner rather than later

Yeah, but at least he got the stay on the pitch for 15 more minutes against Wrexham..m

If we stick with a 4231 we surely keep Apter we’re light enough in that position as it is and if we’re looking at Redmond it’s not like we have millions to replace him.

Olaofe I hope we should be able to move on fairly comfortably awful season last year but should have enough credit for a midtable L1 side to give him a chance we managed to get Ahadme off the books early

Sounded like we were close on a few in NJ’s post match at the weekend. Hopefully another couple in this week ahead of Wombles friendly on Saturday. Has to be midfield and right hand side targets next you’d hope.

You remember, I’m sure, that he came back and played again after that before the end of the season? It was also closer to three or four minutes.

If Apter is going to stay, then to encourage a move in January I would make him a fixture (as over aged?) in the U21’s.
The reasoning being to give him game time and keep him topped up.
I think Apter has as much value to Charlton as Ahadme.

Is Sichenje in full training with the rest of the squad or still rehabilitating ?

Spoke to an ex employee of the club last week who still has very good contacts within the club hence the reason I not posted till now ..cause I think one of our targets he was telling me about has signed for Swansea ( 6 mill been quoted ) .. New Zealand international who played for Motherwell he said he would have broken our transfer record , but he did say that NJ requested bigger wage structure which the owners have agreed , that should see a former player return now we know it’s Grant and most likey  our first 25k plus a week player. NJ very happy at the club and on the recent tour one of the owners turned up and spoke to the players about the season ahead. He believes Apter will stay and Jones and Ramsey contracts are not a problem .. only bids received are for Kanu.
So you’re saying we were in for Elijah Just.

Laughable if people actually believe we’re paying 25k a week for Grant who’s not even a guaranteed starter, and will suddenly be on 5k a week more than any other player and likely double the majority of the squad

Ahadme is a horrific footballer , Apter is not .  I would agree that if we stick with 5-3-2, then Apter doesn’t play but in a 433, he might be useful.
