Would be some meltdown on here (and rightly so) if we lost Lloyd Jones before the start of the season.
Jones goes and I'm immediately and whole-heartedly signing up for the bedwetting brigade.
  • We've had this problem for years with letting our key players run down their contracts. Downside of not being able to compete on wages the rest of the league can offer
  • You can’t really blame Lloyd though can you - he’s rightly waiting to see who we bring in. And that process, so far, has been enormously underwhelming
  • What’s chalobah been doing this summer?

Why haven’t we brought him in earlier?

    Seems a bit odd.
  • Food for thought - despite my opposition to selling Lloyd.

Summer 2019, we turned down £4m from Brentford for Lyle Taylor, in the last year of his contract. Thus turning down the chance to replace him with a young Ivan Toney.

Most fans, including myself, were pleased we kept Lyle in the end. But, looking back, Taylor went on to get injured and never reach the same heights again. Meanwhile, Toney went on to play in major tournaments for England and become one of the most valuable strikers in the Premier League.

Just goes to show that sometimes every player has their price, especially an aged one.
We didn’t lose out on Toney though. Our plan that day was whatever Brentford bid for Taylor, we would bid the same for Toney. If Peterborough had accepted our Toney offer then Taylor would have left. Peterborough wanted more than £4m so we’d have never got him even if we sold Taylor
  • Lets not forget when he was definitely off to Wycombe
  • Why all the speculation re Lloyd?

    Because he’s on the bench?

The squads is just being rotated from Saturday, don’t panic!!

    Don’t doubt the Oracle

Agreed, I also, despite the fact I'd love the cash to be splashed, don't blame the owners for not trusting NJ with a big budget. NJ has been immense for us, but that's very much been in spite of his big-money signings (arguably making his achievements more impressive). Knibbs, Ahadame, Burke, Kaminski, JRC, Oloafe, and Apter, have all failed to live up to the price tag and combined probably cost £9m. And that's without Kelman and Collins, with which the jury is still very much out.

Lincoln have Matt Smith on trial tonight, the Matt Smith who joined us one January and made no appearances
Both Matt Smiths featured for us (unfortunately, though the second wasn't too bad).

I didn't know that in fairness, I could maybe still apply some relevance from my previous post and say that had we sold Taylor to replace him with Toney: fan opinion would have been that it was a negative move.
  • Cholabah is a decent player but has a pretty rough injury history. Not convinced he's the right signing at all.
  • LJ has comfortably been our best player 2 years in a row. Would not be good news to sell him.

I’m guessing the club feel there’s a possibility he’ll sign or they would have sold this summer already?

I don't believe the link to Toney was ever genuine. Smoke and mirrors by 'Dmac' to help out his little fraud mate.

I reckon if Lyle had been sold, the window would have slammed shut and we would have heard the usual line at the time of "we worked our best but a deal couldn't be made, these things are complicated."
  • Several people saying on social media that Dykes was definitely at Sparrows Lane today.
  • A reminder that 18 months ago Lloyd Jones had 6 months left on his contract, yet had been our best player. The one thing he will always do is give 100%.

In terms of Chalobah, it always slightly concerns me when you're playing a new triallist so far into the preseason programme.

At the risk of being whooshed.....

Maybe because we've missed out on our main target(s) and so now fishing in the "free & injury prone" pool.

  • Godspeed the Welsh wonder. I’m putting the rubber mattress cover on tonight.
  • Don’t think we should sign him because he’s broken. But Chalobah has played 2 nice forward passes through the lines in the first 2 minutes of tonight’s game. Clear upgrade on what we have but unfortunately too broken

Probably more of a sad indictment of the midfield quality we're used to.
  • No coincidence Gough and Mwamba are starting against the manager who previously said he’s interested in taking them on loan?
  • Can we focus on the real issue here? Grant 9, Mesik 18, Knibbs 8, McNamara 20, Burke 4. I'm not sure how I feel about these. They're not objectively wrong but they don't feel quite right either

Sounds like if you were in the same room it would be a rubber Johnny on!!😜
  • Ryan Reynolds has bought the wrong club.

He would have loved it on here.

Burke fits the number of appearances in a row he can make.

Or we've had a massive cash injection and can afford anyone we want.

See how easy it is to leap to conclusions based on little or no evidence.

100% was there today. My boy spoke to him.

That's happened with the Lloyd Jones contract thing. Not mentioned he won't sign but he's going apparently..
