No way would be bring in another midfielder, if it's someone who's a real step up, without letting one of the current ones go. We have to be brutal to keep the squad size within 25.Southbank said:
We are only allowed 25 over 21s in our squad. You have 26 I think?DDOUBLEE said:So, if the plan is 4-2-3-1:
GK: Kaminski, Mannion, Brooks
RB: Ramsay, MacNamara
RCB: Jones, Collins, Gough
LCB: Koumetio, Bell, Burke
LB: Mesik, Edwards
CM: Docherty, Coventry, JRC, Mwamba, **NEW**
CAM: Knibbs, Carey, Fullah
LW: Grant, Alli, Campbell
RW: **NEW**, Apter
ST: Godden, Kelman, Leaburn, Mbick
I fully expect Asiimwe, Kanu and Tanto to be gone by the end of the window.
I will feel much more positive if the two signings are Kamara and Holsgrove. Wonder where that'll leave Chalobah though, would like it if we signed him too really.
Gough, Fullah, Mbick and Mwamba are the only ones under 21.
I can see why the EFL did it, as it stops clubs hoarding senior players AND it frees up places for the likes of Mbick and Mwamba to get minutes.
Also I can't see us having both TC and Miles at the end of the window, as we don't need 3 left wingers, and NJ in the interview clearly didn't consider Alli as one of his right wing options.. Either Alli is a replacement for TC, or Grant will sometimes play through the middle, in which case Miles will get very few minutes.0 -
Technically we don't need to let someone go to keep in the squad limit, one of them could qualify as U212
-
Guessing you have 4, Godden obviously an experienced head good to have around the place. Kelman was our long term investment will stick with him. Leaburn to give you something different in terms of height and Mbick as a wildcard which could go any directionkillerandflash said:Something has to give in terms of our strikers, as we aren't going to have 5 wingers in the squad, to go back to 352, and with Knibbs and Carey in the No 10 role, there aren't going to be many opportunities for a striker to play the 10 role either.
Kelman being out for a while, certainly until after the window closes, complicates things, but then we have Mbick nearly ready to play. I think NJ has some big calls to make, and not just with Tanto and Kanu.0 -
What are people's thoughts on Fullah? Sticks around as the third 10 option or we look for a high level L1 loan to get him playing?2

Matsuki from Southampton or Robert’s from Birmingham.21cws said:
Can’t say a name but I think the name I know is our second choice if the first don’t happen. Played a fair amount of time for top 10 team from last year.CB1 said:Based on RW’s with 1v1 quality that would be in our price range and be treated as a big signing that’s the only 2 it can be. I’d go out on a limb and say they will likely be left footed as well2 -
Get him loaned has the ability but not the physicality let him get some games and toughen him upMarcusH26 said:What are people's thoughts on Fullah? Sticks around as the third 10 option or we look for a high level L1 loan to get him playing?2 -

Glad I'm not the only one, that's a very weak strike force, I just don't get the clamour for Mbick, (at the moment) Brighton obviously saw something but would have placed him in the under 21s. Is he really championship standard ? From the little I've seen I don't think so. Has he recovered from a serious knee injury ? Goddens experience will get him into good positions & will get a few goals, Leaburn & Kelman meh. Think this new season will be much like the last, backs to the wall defending, grabbing occasional odd goal victories. Despite what Jones has said tonight about signing a dominant midfielder I can't see us pushing the boat out though I hope I'm wrong. Chalobah ? Another injury prone player.stjohnshill said:
Massive gamble to rely on someone coming back from a serious knee injury who hasn’t ever played at this level. I’d be very worried if our strikers are Godden, Leaburn, Kelman and Micah. 3 have poor injury records in the last year and Kelman who is now injured himself, needs a good season to justify why we paid millions for himDDOUBLEE said:NJ mentioning Micah in his injury update suggests that he's going to be involved with the first team this season. Could be why a deal for Dykes isn't being pursuedBased on what Jones said tonight, If I’m wrong about Dykes returning fair enough, I just share what I’m told which is usually very accurate from well placed sources0 -
Can confirm that the Dykes one has legsLaddick01 said:

Lewis Koumas - 41 apps across loans at Birmingham and Hull (both top 10) but only 11 starts.0

In fairness our original offer to Dykes may have been quite "low" and now it may be somewhat improved.Sage said:
On a side note, I personally would have told Dykes to shove it by now. We offered him a deal and fine he went to the World Cup, he came back and trained with Bristol City who decided against taking him on. Let’s make sure we are in the position of power. If you didn’t want to sign the contract offered at first and wanted more money, don’t bother now. Don’t rate him anyway so would be pleased if we don’t sign him.
I don't see how you can tell him to shove it, unless you know what he was offered.4 -
I have always liked Nathan Jones.YannTheMann said:NJ pretty candidly denying the Dykes offer rumour

No worries. 90+% of posts on this thread are completely off topicLaddick01 said:Slightly off topic but have seen that Ben Watson’s son, Reggie, is starting to get minutes in pre season for Chelsea at just 16.
An absolute unit for his age and looks the part too. Very tidy on the ball and from set pieces.
Not sure we’d have a chance, but can see him doing a very good job for a Champ side in the near future.

German media saying Werder Bremen do not have a current interest in Holsgrove

OH good shout Callum! hadn't considered someone like Koumas who might be available on a perm given he turns 21 in September.Callumcafc said:Lewis Koumas - 41 apps across loans at Birmingham and Hull (both top 10) but only 11 starts.0 -
I’d be really happy to sign Chalobah after watching him last night and at the end of last season, bit worrying with the injury record but think it’s worth the risk. Be interesting to see how many more we bring in . Can still see it being 4 if a few more go out.2
-
If we got Dykes, a CM of the calibre of Holsgrove (ie decent money for us), a winger of a similar calibre to Kamara, and Chalobah as a back up CM option - I would consider it a decent summer.24

I will be pedantic and say I think he says "this is WHERE we've kept our powder dry"Valley11 said:NJ very open about specific positions. I thought the 'that's why we've kept our powder dry' comment was interesting.
Sounds like these two will cost a bit.
I wonder if it is Holsgrove and Kamara?
Which might not mean we've been holding back big funds, just that we haven't filled these spots yet.1 -

Can’t judge the summer signings until we’ve seen them play in The Championship. We all got too excited last year.5

Why is everyone obsessed with us having to pay a big transfer fee as a sign of intent. If we sign an experienced, in demand player who’s run their contract down and wants £30k a week, that’s nearly £6m over three years, plus any possible signing on fee.5 -
There no guarantee that you spend millions and the player automatically becomes a star player .. look how many players in the perm been signed for 10’s of millions been crap …. and let go 12 months later …..0

Nothing about contracts at the minute, if I do will share. Do know we would let TK go but no fucker wants himAthletico Charlton said:6 -
Was Chalobah really on £20k a week at Wednesday? It would be a huge risk looking at his injury record over the last two seasons.
Edit
“Legs like biscuits” was the verdict of one Wednesday fan about Chalobah last night.3 -
It is, but that would probably blow our wage structure a bit and potentially cause us a lot more issues when it comes to securing a new contact for the likes of L. Jones etc, so while I imagine our hypothetical new players are on a decent wedge I don't think they will be on 30k/week.SouthLincsAddick said:

128 postings overnight, well there are quite a few insomniacs on the forum that's for sure, anyway, nothing will happen in the small hours (regarding Charlton that is)...
So here's to another beautiful day, let's see what it brings us...🤔1 -
There is a player in there but it was against Colchester and he's approaching 32 years of age. As much as I think he could do a job, and his experience would be what we need, he is not worth investing in, due to his injury record, exactly the same doubts sit with Reece Burke, good player but missing most of the season, we don't need another one in a key position.robroy said:Was Chalobah really on £20k a week at Wednesday? Nathan Jones comment about 'keeping our powder dry to this point' suggests that the club is prepared to get the players they want and are prepared to pay good money to achieve it.6

I would say get him a loan.MarcusH26 said:What are people's thoughts on Fullah? Sticks around as the third 10 option or we look for a high level L1 loan to get him playing?
I don't think he will feature enough in the league and there's no benefit at all in him playing U21 football. Loan him out with a recall clause in January and see how he gets on.7
