NJ’s interview all but confirming we wanna get kamara and holsgrove and have the money to do it. Whether we will is an entirely different question.2

When are we going to learn not to listen to other teams opinions on players that have just left them …robroy said:Was Chalobah really on £20k a week at Wednesday? It would be a huge risk looking at his injury record over the last two seasons.
Edit
“Legs like biscuits” was the verdict of one Wednesday fan about Chalobah last night.2 -
Would have to wait for this one. He’s in the US with Liverpool because some of their WC players only just came back/aren’t going on the tourCallumcafc said:Lewis Koumas - 41 apps across loans at Birmingham and Hull (both top 10) but only 11 starts.0 -

Doesn’t sound like what we’re probably looking for. I think a left footed right winger is more likely.3 -
It won’t be Koumas he plays off the left not the rightMarcusH26 said:
OH good shout Callum! hadn't considered someone like Koumas who might be available on a perm given he turns 21 in September.Callumcafc said:Lewis Koumas - 41 apps across loans at Birmingham and Hull (both top 10) but only 11 starts.0 -
Would like Stan Mills but haven’t heard his name to being linked to us0

Didn’t hear of say Mesik until it was done.21cws said:Would like Stan Mills but haven’t heard his name to being linked to us11 -
Yeah this was my thinking, I don't see where get he would get minutes and U21 football is a waste of time for him at this point of his development. Go and get a top end L1 loan and see how he does.Chris_from_Sidcup said:
I would say get him a loan.MarcusH26 said:What are people's thoughts on Fullah? Sticks around as the third 10 option or we look for a high level L1 loan to get him playing?
I don't think he will feature enough in the league and there's no benefit at all in him playing U21 football. Loan him out with a recall clause in January and see how he gets on.0 -
Chalobah would be a poor signing in my opinion. We don’t have the luxury of filling up our squad with perennially injured players and Aneke was the last straw for me. We repeated the mistake with Burke who is one of the highest earners I as I understand it. If that Sheff Wed wage is accurate then it’s insanity to pursue him.As a club 5/6 years ago I could see why we tolerated it, but we need to have more respect for ourselves and just swerve them completely. How often did we see Burke last season? It will be the same this season, you can hold me to this. He will get injured again at some point in the next few months and we will see him sporadically, if at all this season. Chalobah fits the same mould. Do not bother12
-
I'm not convinced the wage is accurate but even if it is, that doesn't mean we'd pay him £20k. Sheffield Wednesday certainly won't be paying him that in L1 and he might be willing to move closer to home on a smaller wage to play Championship football over L1 football. It feels to me like there's a good deal to be done in there if we're confident of keeping him fit10

When did he mention them then ? I must have missed that bit.Diebythesword said:NJ’s interview all but confirming we wanna get kamara and holsgrove and have the money to do it. Whether we will is an entirely different question.6 -
If we had a strong track record if bringing in perennially crocked players, getting them fit and them keeping them from getting crocked again, i could understand us shopping in the 'made of glass' window.
But we don't, we get fit players and get them injured, our return to fitness for any injury seems to be weeks or months longer than average and is frequently followed by another injury.
It improved under the doctor who then left suddenly but has deteriorated again. I would also be very wary of buying an injury prone player with out record. No matter how fantastic they are when fit if its only one week in sox thats not what we need1 -
Or that they are prepared to wait until the right players are available and then spend some more money on themBailey said:Nathan Jones comment about 'keeping our powder dry to this point' suggests that the club is prepared to get the players they want and are prepared to pay good money to achieve it.8 -
Chalobah, if nothing else, has proved himself to be an excellent triallist because he showed last night something that we don’t have in our squad which is that control and ability to start play from defensive midfield. Even if he’s not the answer, we don’t have anyone with that strength currently.22
-
The counter argument on Chalobah, is that he has been playing at a side in desperate times who would have been tempted to overplay him or rush him back.
If you go back through his career, he has been deployed as a finisher quite alot, and when doing so has had a strong record of keeping fit. If Chalobah is brought in to play that role, and be there as a finisher to help us manage the end of games, it could be a very shrewd bit of business.
All of that depends on the money he is looking for of course.4 -

Nothing about contracts at the minute, if I do will share. Do know we would let TK go but no fucker wants himAthletico Charlton said:0 -
I can see both sides of the Chalobah debate, but I would say that if we do decide not to sign him then we do need someone who can do what he does - not just winning the ball in midfield but dictate play and start progressive moves forward.RC_CAFC said:Chalobah, if nothing else, has proved himself to be an excellent triallist because he showed last night something that we don’t have in our squad which is that control and ability to start play from defensive midfield. Had an update on Dykes - There was a bit of confusion around contracts and who’d offered what. Apologies for this.stjohnshill said:
Massive gamble to rely on someone coming back from a serious knee injury who hasn’t ever played at this level. I’d be very worried if our strikers are Godden, Leaburn, Kelman and Micah. 3 have poor injury records in the last year and Kelman who is now injured himself, needs a good season to justify why we paid millions for himDDOUBLEE said:NJ mentioning Micah in his injury update suggests that he's going to be involved with the first team this season. Could be why a deal for Dykes isn't being pursuedBased on what Jones said tonight, If I’m wrong about Dykes returning fair enough, I just share what I’m told which is usually very accurate from well placed sourcesDykes has rejected contracts elsewhere as he wants more money, so is back with us training at the moment for fitness. Not sure if this is in the hope he signs for us eventually or if NJ is just helping him out as favour30 -

I wonder if the club are playing hardball with Kanu ie sign a new, longer, deal or leave now. If he signs then a loan to L1 is fine.
Or maybe we just want/need the money a sale would generate to fund other deals plus we need to trim the squad size.5 -
Think it's a bit of both. I would hope we don't need the money but we do need the squad space. I am surprised he hasn't moved on already, I'd have thought there would be a few clubs willing to pay for himHenry Irving said:I wonder if the club are playing hardball with Kanu ie sign a new, longer, deal or leave now. If we're asking for around £1m I would have thought the top end of League 1 would be starting a queue. Especially Plymouth who have the money to spend.fenaddick said:

Maybe Orient if they manage to get a good fee for Ballard.2 -
Orient would be a good shout but I feel like the championship have baulked at what they want for Ballard.covered_end_junior said:MarcusH26 said:

I think that's one that probably goes on for a few more weeks yet until Orient take the best offer on the table.MarcusH26 said:

Every club knows we need to sell Kanu, they’re going to wait till deadline day and we’re going to slowly have to lower our valuation overtime2
-
More likely is that a league 1 team will sell their first-choice forward and be desperate for a replacement before the deadline passes. Giving us leverage in negotiations.Crispywood said:Every club knows we need to sell Kanu, they’re going to wait till deadline day and we’re going to slowly have to lower our valuation overtime
Not everything has to be doom and gloom mate.20 -
We are Charlton. Every club will also know that by deadline day we will have two strikers out from injuries/knocks they’ve already picked up and Kanu will be on the team sheet and scoring for fun.Crispywood said:Every club knows we need to sell Kanu, they’re going to wait till deadline day and we’re going to slowly have to lower our valuation overtime
