Charlton Athletic are delighted to announce the signing of right-back Danny McNamara.
The experienced 27-year old arrives at The Valley on a two-year deal, making a return to the club where he began his career as a youngster.
Sidcup-born McNamara joined Charlton Athletic Community Trust’s Advance Centre at the age of seven and was picked up by the Addicks academy where he remained until the age of 14.
Following his departure from Sparrows Lane, he impressed in non-League with Corinthian, catching the eye of Millwall who brought him to The Den in 2015, before embarking on loan spells with Welling United, Dover Athletic, Havant & Waterlooville, Newport County and, finally, St Johnstone, where he joined then-Lions and now-Charlton teammate Tanto Olaofe for a stint in the Scottish Premiership before being recalled in January 2021.
It was then that McNamara made his breakthrough in the Championship with Millwall, establishing himself in the side, before going on to rack up 166 appearances for the Lions, scoring twice.
The former Republic of Ireland U21 international now joins the Addicks following the expiration of his contract at The Den and becomes Nathan Jones’ fourth signing of the summer window.
Speaking after putting pen to paper in SE7, McNamara said: "I’m absolutely delighted to get it done. I started my career here when I was really young, so it holds a special place in my heart and I can’t wait to get going again.
"I know how big of a club Charlton are. I’ve got a lot of family and friends who are Charlton fans - it’s a great community and I’m delighted to be a part of it.
"As soon as I met the manager, I knew it was the right place for me. The ambitions of the club and what he wants to build is very exciting and I want to be a part of that."
His new boss Jones added: "We’re really delighted to add Danny to our ranks. He’s someone that’s got massive experience of the Championship and knows what it takes to win games. He adds real competition to the right-back area. He’s an impressive individual in that he’s a winner, and he wants to achieve - we need those type of characters here. As a character, as an athlete, as a player we’re delighted to have him with us and I’m looking forward to working with him."
Meanwhile, Managing Director James Rodwell said: "We’re delighted to welcome Danny to the club. With over 150 Championship appearances, he brings significant experience and proven quality to our squad.
"His addition aligns with our focus on strengthening the team and enhancing the depth and calibre of the group as we continue to progress heading into our second season in the Championship."”

Alex Mitchell joins Plymouth Argyle
Alex Mitchell has joined Sky Bet League One side Plymouth Argyle on a permanent transfer for an undisclosed fee.
The centre-back arrived at Charlton in the summer of 2024 from Millwall and has since made 35 appearances in all competitions, 34 of which came in the Addicks’ promotion-winning campaign in 2024/25.
Mitchell now returns to Argyle following a successful loan spell during the 2025/26 season.
Manager Nathan Jones said: "We thank Alex for all his hard work and all he did for us. He played a pivotal role in the first half of our promotion season and then he obviously had a very successful loan at Plymouth.
"He was brilliant around the place, fantastic for the environment and we wish him all the best. He was a pleasure to coach, a pleasure to have around and he’s been a credit to himself."
Everyone at the club would like to thank Alex for his efforts and wish him well for the future.

Millenic Alli joins the Addicks
Charlton Athletic are delighted to announce the signing of Republic of Ireland international winger Millenic Alli.
The 26-year-old joins the Addicks from Sky Bet League One side Luton Town for an undisclosed fee and arrives at The Valley on a four-year deal, becoming Nathan Jones’ fifth signing of the summer window, following the arrivals of Ivan Mesík, Billy Koumetio, Karlan Grant and Danny McNamara.
The pacy forward began his career as a youngster with Bury, before making a name for himself in the non-League game. Alli had spells at Padiham, South Shields, Workington, Ashton United, Stockport County, Chorley and FC Halifax Town, where he impressed in the National League, drawing the attention of Exeter City who brought him to League One in January 2023.
An impressive two-year spell with the Grecians was rewarded with a move to the Championship with Luton Town in January 2025 where he struck four goals in 16 appearances at the back end of the 2025/26 campaign.
Following the Hatters’ relegation to the third tier, Alli made a loan move back to the Championship with Portsmouth in January, playing a significant role in securing their second tier status, registering one goal and two assists during his time at Fratton Park.
Speaking after putting pen to paper in SE7, Alli said: "I’m happy to be here and can’t wait to get started, have a good time and show what I can do.
"The club’s goals are the exact same as mine, so we’re really trying to push this season and do the best we can. I can’t wait to play in front of the fans at The Valley and get them cheering and on their feet.
"You can expect pace, power, directness and goals - skills too!"
His new manager Jones added: "We’re delighted to get Milli over the line. We want to evolve and to get better year in and year out - we’ve identified certain elements that we’ve needed, in terms of that player that can be one-v-one.
"He’s shown he can be a real potent threat at Championship level. We felt he was going to be a really good addition and we’ve worked hard to get that done. He provides options and competition for the players we’ve got and we think in that forward area we’ve got different one-v-one threats with TC [Tyreece Campbell], Karlan [Grant] and Rob Apter and we feel we’ve just added in that department.
"We’re still looking for even more quality but this, we feel, is a positive step in being able to evolve and be more potent. He’s hungry, he’s ambitious, he wants to do really well at this level and kick-on, we were really impressed by how much he wanted to join Charlton."

Rovers are delighted to announce the signing of Jayden Fevrier on a permanent deal from Stockport County.
The 23-year-old, who can operate as a winger and a wing-back, becomes our first summer signing after putting pen-to-paper on a long-term contract at Ewood Park.
An exciting and forward-thinking wide player, who is equally comfortable on both the left and right, Fevrier brings pace, dribbling ability and versatility to the Rovers ranks.
Born in London, he started his career with West Ham United at the age of six, progressing through the Hammers’ Academy before signing his first professional contract in 2021.
Youth international, Fevrier joined Colchester United in 2022 and went on to make 60 appearances for the Us before signing for Stockport in June 2024.
In an impressive first season at Edgeley Park, he played a key role as the Hatters reached the League One play-offs, scoring three goals in 25 league appearances.
Last season, he scored twice in 21 League One outings for Stockport, before making a January loan move to Charlton Athletic, where he gained his first taste of Championship football, netting twice in 11 league appearances for the Addicks.
Fevrier now arrives at Ewood Park for an undisclosed fee, becoming the first signing of Tony Mowbray’s second spell in charge of the club.
