CONCACAF opposing it is odd given that’s where the US are registered5

Here’s the CONCACAF statement:

Not mentioned a boycott though . Probably holding out for a bigger pay off .fenaddick said:CONCACAF opposing it is odd given that’s where the US are registered2 -
This is turning into the sort of outcome where Infantino should be forced to resign in disgrace14
-
Funnily enough the whole thing getting rejected is probably the least worst option for Infantino right now if he wants to try to cling to power - if it ended up passing the vote and him then doing it without Uefa then he's toast further down the line IMO - if it gets voted down he can (and probably will) try and spin it as "I gave you all the democratic choice because i'm so fair and reasonable, and democracy has spoken, so lets all move on"fenaddick said:CONCACAF opposing it is odd given that’s where the US are registered3 -
Perhaps EUFA should announce plans for Biennial European Championships to replace the World Cup to put a bit of pressure on FIFA and restore lost revenues.0

How would that work? You’d have endless qualifying.gringo said:Perhaps EUFA should announce plans for Biennial European Championships to replace the World Cup to put a bit of pressure on FIFA and restore lost revenues.1 -
Martyn Ziegler deserves enormous credit for breaking the story. Without that, who knows how this could've gone.18

We've got endless qualifying already with the world cup and euros being two years apart...The Red Robin said:

So earlier in the week we needed to pray, meditate or watch football (essentially chill out) and now it’s fake news, with an indirect Trump family link to the investor group.ForeverAddickted said:0 -
Historically, having Trump as a business partner has been an extremely bad thing. Back when he was in business his core skill wasn't in making particularly good deals but in having a strong instinct for the best moment to break the deal and force the other side to renegotiate on terms that were better for him and worse for them. Much as I dislike him, he was very good at what he did, and TBH after the first couple of times anyone who made a deal with him really should have known what was coming and basically had themselves to blame.Karim_myBagheri said:
having Trump as your business partner isnet a bad thing but it would help if he knew something about football. "i dont know what a red card means.."Bedsaddick said:
I don’t think it matters now . Nobody will invest in a new FIFA organisation that doesn’t involve European teams . It’s dead in the water hopefully along with its leader .Jonniesta said:
Just need to get South America or Asia to join UEFA in the boycott. SA boycotting would mean it's not credible football-wise, Asia would mean the financial power has gone. Appreciate the former may exclude Argentina!ross1 said:All 55 members of UEFA have voted to boycott World cup proposalsThis is what happens when greed overtakes common sense and you involve a country such as the USA who haven’t the faintest clue what football is all about .
I can see him and most of the US people baffled by the response that Europe have taken
I think UEFA are right about the down-sides of doing a deal like this. Football would end up in the same situation as Formula 1 where the costs of running the events and the commitments made to the investors force them to accept races in particular countries and drop less profitable ones in places where their history is. It's bad enough now, it would be much worse with this deal in place. And then there's the Trump angle - go anywhere near that family and you shouldn't be surprised if they end up owning lots of stuff you thought you hadn't offered them.4 -
Trump has tried and failed to get involved in sports in the past. His American football league went bankrupt.FIFA not backing down. Hopefully the other federations don’t blink.6

It’s all about the money. No UEFA, less money, probably significantly less. Investors, sponsors. tv companies and advertisers might not want to pay quite so much to FIFA if the UEFA countries are not part of the package. The Red Robin said:Trump has tried and failed to get involved in sports in the past. Very odd timing by FIFA to launch this while the UEFA members were still angry about the blatant favouritism shown to the US over Belgium during the World Cup. Almost the ideal time for UEFA to be goaded into deciding to fight. Which makes me wonder if this isn't a new idea, but something that had already been set up before the WC happened, Some sort of deal offered to Trump because he was threatening something or other?3

I honestly doubt its anything so Machievellian, Infantino is just a grubby little weasel who cant quite grasp that other people have this little thing called "integrity" and utterly failed to read the room (or tried to sneak it through under the radar.)Swindon_Addick said:Very odd timing by FIFA to launch this while the UEFA members were still angry about the blatant favouritism shown to the US over Belgium during the World Cup. Asian Football Confederation statement includes: “The AFC stands in solidarity with UEFA and CONCACAF in expressing serious concerns over FIFA’s proposal to introduce private investment into FIFA's flagship competitions and the decision-making process around FFE

Infantino is out of control. He proposes to sell FIFA shares to private investors, and then says:“FFE has been proposed solely to ensure that all Fifa member associations have the opportunity to take meaningful ownership of the commercial opportunity of football”It's bad enough when companies sponsor the game, imagine if they owned 20% of FIFA.2

FIFA made $15B from this year’s World Cup, so they could pay the money out that they’re suggesting with anyone else being involved.3

Certainly would not be a new idea. It would have taken months to work up the prospectus and get Morgan Stanley, Kushner's firm and other consultants on board. I reckon Infantado thought he had a great world cup with record revenues etc and that the prospect of more money would win over enough federations to get this through. Pure hubrisSwindon_Addick said:Very odd timing by FIFA to launch this while the UEFA members were still angry about the blatant favouritism shown to the US over Belgium during the World Cup. Yes, that's a good point. "Infantino is just a grubby little weasel" is generally the best explanation for anything FIFA does.thenewbie said:

The AFC siding with UEFA and CONCACAF means Infantino now can't get the majority he needs.
I'd be surprised now if we don't hear the remaining confederations saying the same, as no one will want to be the odd one out and look like fools that are only interested in a money grab.10 -
Uganda have already fessed up to that.Chris_from_Sidcup said:The AFC siding with UEFA and CONCACAF means Infantino now can't get the majority he needs.

Surely the money behind it will disappear if it is not truly a World Cup anymore. You would think the other confederations know that so will be reluctant to sign up to it. Infantino has no shame so I doubt he will resign. He will just drop the idea and think of new ways to enrich himself further.2

COnCAF was the surprise for me, no one cates about oceania and a tournament with Africa and South America would be poinless0
-
Never thought FIFA could do worse than Sepp Blatter but they managed it.6

Doesn't need to resign, he's up for re-election next year. Currently standing unopposed but UEFA are trying to get PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi to stand as they think he'd have a chance of winningMuttleyCAFC said:Surely the money behind it will disappear if it is not truly a World Cup anymore.
