Spend some money on midfield cafc.4

We all know that a fit Chalobah would be a no brainer for a signing, just how much we can rely on him staying fit enough to make a difference is the million pound (literally) question...4

Max squad size cap of 25.PeaksAndValleys said:
Sorry for my ignorance, are the rules new / different this year?killerandflash said:
I do think the squad size rules are delaying transfers across the division, as so many clubs will already be at or over the limit, and wary of adding to the squad without getting players out firstshirty5 said:
Be interesting how that would work with the 25 man squad that's has to be put into the EFL at end of the window. Those loans would count in that squad, if i''m correct.follett said:Think we’ll get in a few prem loans as they start to become available later in the month
Would need a load more out's for that to happen,
(PS I've rewritten this a couple of times now and it always reads sarky, but it's a genuine question!)U21 don’t apply to cap (except Loans + GK)Whole idea is to stop clubs spending on over inflated squads and utilise the academy a bit more0 -

I know absolutely nothing about this fella the first I heard of his existence was on here but if he does come here after the build up he has had I really hope he is fantastic anything less will be an anti climax lolsam3110 said:I reckon we get Holsgrove for €3.5m in the end, which is essentially £3m
Hoping it's sorted out sooner rather than later either way0 -
Need to move on from Holsgrove, he ain’t signing for us. Our mate st John has all but confirmed on the other forum!5

I’m living in hope that the signing revealed from abroad tomorrow is Fukada !!
might be the wrong position but still lol2 -
I would say that Grant is a new striker, and a pretty decent one by our standards.J BLOCK said:CafcSteve said:Doesn’t really seem that there has been much of a budget this season in comparison to last.
People are just hoping that this is because we’re saving it for a few midfielders.
The longer we go without signing them,
The less likely it is that we’ll get the players we might have originally wanted.
So far we have zero new strikers4 -

Yeah fair. I more meant is that a new change and that's why it's causing clubs problems. Eg in Killers post he was saying the cap was delaying transfers this year, I was wondering why that is.Crispywood said:

From a quick chat gpt it sounds like no, it's not new but maybe combined with the new SCR rules there is more chat generally about trimming the squad0 -
Carter has also said he hopes our player budget will grow to the size of a mid table Championship side in three years time, so the increase this year, if any, will be modest.J BLOCK said:

Carter said this to Cawley in May: "We need more up front. We didn’t score enough goals this year and that’s painfully obvious. In the middle of the park we don’t want to rely just on Sonny (Carey)."
So far we have zero new strikers and zero new central midfielders. If the window closes with no real money spent in these key areas, the question is, what's changed?0 -

By which time it may mean we have the highest budget in League 1.

Freddie Potts is being linked to a move to Belgium. Surely better than our current midfield and a local commute.2

So what's the difference with Batth and Nathan Redmond? Why is Batth a "perfectly solid Champ signing" yet Redmond is considered to be only worthy of the glue factory?MarcusH26 said:Millwall signing Danny Batth as depth and experience. Perfectly solid Champ signing that wouldn't cause a meltdown on here?? 500+ apps that wouldn't be expected to start most weeks.
Batth - 36 next month. 500+ games.
Redmond - 32 years old. 450+ games.
Batth played 10 games last season, Redmond only 2 less.
There were several mattresses that had significant additional moisture over signing Grant; an experienced Champ player.
Intrigued as to what makes the opinion change other than the fact that any player we get will automatically become Charltonised?!11 -

If Holsgrove is holding out for a move to Germany and we may still be in with a shout if that don’t happen closer to the window closing .. do we play the waiting game ..or move on to next name on our list ???1

Oops, eight figure fee, forget that one.1

We might sign his brother Tin .Gisappointed said:Freddie Potts is being linked to a move to Belgium. Surely better than our current midfield and a local commute.14 -
My fear is it’s based on a optimistic rise in revenue, something we’ve not been good at increasing in recent times, the latest shirt sponsorship is a good example.AberystwythAddick said:

We’ve spent nearly 2 months chasing him, may be a little pathetic but have to ride it out if we think he’s the player to change this team. What we should do though is have somebody locked and loaded if it does go pear shaped.RonnieMoore said:If Holsgrove is holding out for a move to Germany and we may still be in with a shout if that don’t happen closer to the window closing .. do we play the waiting game ..or move on to next name on our list ???Ideally would have been good to go in for 2 midfielders get one sorted now and one we can wait a bit longer to bring in0 -
My take from yesterday’s game was that some of them knew they might be moving on this week. I’m prepared to believe I’m wrong but I would have thought some would have been trying to impress to get picked in two weeks.

I do think, with all the negativity, we are a still couple of experienced centre mids and one striker (signed or loaned) from being an ok champs team. Id include dykes and coady loan in that three as well. Im sure youd all agree 🤭😂2

Will be a great weight in his shoulders. He's not played in the EFL as all his game time has been abroad. So the old question still stands......can he do it on a cold evening in Middlesbrough.AndyG said:
