Charlton back up for sale - Guardian article comment from Gavin Carter p18

The “Charlton declined to comment” is arguably the worst bit. Just say something, anything, to reassure supporters. Like “we’re still looking for the best long term interests of the club” etc. cretins.10
-
Well this is far from ideal.
The club has so much potential though, let’s hope any potential owners see that and we get someone decent and willing to invest4 -
Just going to be straight, beyond obvious.
All the signs were there, they were never here for the long run.11 -
We got nice new dugouts20
-
Main fear here is that they are going to want their money back so that’s setting the asking price already of at least £65m, and they probably want to make a profit so add some more on top of that.
Will someone come in for us at that kind of price? I know there’s a lot of American interest in investing in football but it feels a bit far fetched to me that they’ll be able to get that price0 -
That's true. Kieran Maguire on the Price of Football says as much, regularly.sam3110 said:Some owners of clubs have been looking for new investments or someone to sell the club to for years.
Not all of them pull the plug on spending immediately
Still ruined my evening.6 -
Just don't want another network/MCO type ownership model. Would suspect it'll be another American ultimately as they seem to be the main movers for EFL clubs.1
-
It was fun while it lasted, so much for the building - we’re in for a Bowyer Championship season then, in Jonesy we trust2

Not as long as they’ve got a hole in their arse will they get anywhere near that money.NabySarr said:Main fear here is that they are going to want their money back so that’s setting the asking price already of at least £65m, and they probably want to make a profit so add some more on top of that.

I'm so fucking glad that we've got fancy new dugouts though, really good job4

Roland has just been woken up from his cryogenic chamber to begin new and unreasonable rent negotiations.43

Especially if/when we get relegatedBedsaddick said:

You’d hope there will be some sort of statement by tomorrow morning, especially considering that the US is still in its working day.3
-
The timing kills us. They either put the money in to stop their 'asset' from decreasing or we just drop and we and they are right back where it all started and they lose even more money.4
-
Not been happy with our owners since they took over. Their lack of real investment on the playing front each window demonstrates this.
Just hope this doesn't unsettle the players. But I think we are in trouble this season.18 -
I bet the dugouts are on the front of the prospectus.4
-
Well. Shit. Maybe we’ll get a super wealthy set of owners with a proper plan. More likely we’ll get another narcissistic lunatic6

I think until this summer that criticism is extremely harsh. They’ve backed us very well up until this pointChippycafc said:Not been happy with our owners since they took over. Their lack of real investment on the playing front each window demonstrates this.

I never felt these "owners" had that much £££. They're a group of overseas investors, analogous to the consortia that are formed to buy land, and then turn it with a profit when they either judge the time is right or can't afford to continue to be (nominal) owners. In fact, behind the smoke and mirrors we've never known the identity of most of the investors.
Best outcome would be a sovereign wealth fund (or immensely wealthy individual) buying them and Duchatelet out because they want to own "a club with premier potential in London."
Given the amount of money pouring into Greenwich Peninsula and Woolwich there must be a chance that might happen.2 -
The club must make a statement tomorrow - to either deny or confirm and put a positive spin on it...5

What happened to the Five Year Plan that was mentioned back in May by Mr Carter?24
-
Already told him that this evening.Diebythesword said:Oh godddd. Peter varney, get your black book out. Is it just a coincidence he mentioned he’d make sure to find a good owner if we ever get in the shit again in his “diaries” just the other month?16 -
Feels like the selling point is having a championship club and a WSL club. Which is all well and good except that both are now among the favourites to be relegated, especially given the lack of investment2
-
At least it’s not at the level of the bonkers shenanigans thread2
-
The days of a super wealthy buyer spunking a small country's GDP on a squad are over. It has to be done in sustainable ways now. You could get a new owner spending large on the academy and peripheral stuff. A well connected owner might be able to leverage more sponsorship money4
-
What a surprise during the transfer window like always. Got to feel for Jones5
-
Feels very much like a slide back to League One for us this season.
Could work out well but more than likely it’s a chancer.2 -
The new SCR spending rule combined with Championship & WSL football has probably got too rich for them to think the risk is worth it. But I don't see how they get their money back. They're in the hole for £60m odd. The big money can swallow a bit of a loss but can Carter or Rodwell? Is it partly why Warrick left? And what is the point in appointing Richard Law to advise on the football if you want out?3
