I found this bit interesting
Having considered looking at alternative sites, last year Charlton extended the lease on the Valley until 2040.
Wonder where they wanted to ship us off to10 -

Just after the World Cup and its relative success in the USA, the timing just fits, we stayed up, they waited until the free promotion of “soccer” was over then sent the feelers out.0

My head says the owners have to be smart enough to realise they only make their money back if we stay in the Championship. Surely they know that they have to keep investing in the squad this window for this to happen.
My heart, though, having lived through Jimenez, Roland, Southall and Sandgaard, just can't shake the feeling that this is going to end catastrophically. We're cursed.
The worst part is the timing. You'd imagine players like Holsgrove will now be running a mile. Why not let Jones and the recruitment team finish building a competitive squad before making this public?
Whoever leaked this now is a **** and has done Jones, the players and fans absolutely no favours.14 -
Yeah, as a total white supremacist bigot he's decided to buy us and invest £1bn in the squad if he can have half of south east london deported including a large proportion of the current team and academy.21cws said:Anyone know Elon Musk?10 -

The feelers have been out way longer than that, publicly too. This is pushing them out againDA9 said:Just after the World Cup and its relative success in the USA, the timing just fits, we stayed up, they waited until the free promotion of “soccer” was over then sent the feelers out.11 -
As annoying as this is, it's not that surprising. The talk of looking for investors has been around for a while, talk of budgets being cut and the way this window has developed all were signs even if we didn't see them at the time.
It does make the switch to a back 4 more confusing though. Without serious investment it just feels too much of an ask. Surely with this context sticking to the system that our players knew and got the most out of a number of them whilst using what budget we have to add a bit of quality and competition in key areas would have been enough to stay up another year. Instead it feels like we've negated our strengths in the hope we can compensate elsewhere but it's just not happened.2 -
But there's always the occasional idiot who will hang on his every word, the same as they did with Meire.blackpool72 said:

Has anyone on here actually met him down the years.5 -

Ironically, our current ownership group (largely rich Americans with experience of US sports involvement looking to branch out into UK) is the exact target group this would be aimed at!
Which must be a massive turn off for any potential buyers in raising a glaring ‘why do the current lot want to offload’ question?32 -
Could be completely wrong but maybe new buyers leaked it to put pressure on our current owners to sell for cheaper now fans know and will be voicing at what’s going on.4

I’m currently in the USA, will look for some rich looking people in New Orleans13

I agree and it makes me think Jones was pretty unaware of this maybe and had already set the wheels in motion for the system change before he found outcantersaddick said:As annoying as this is, it's not that surprising. @Airman Brown do you think the club could be seeking additional investment, not a sale, and the reporter has come to the wrong conclusion?1

The problem is the longer we stay in the championship, the more money they will lose. The only way they’ll make money is for the club to get promoted to EPL and for them to sell it then.CAFCOlly said:My head says the owners have to be smart enough to realise they only make their money back if we stay in the Championship. But they still gambled on that happening last year by not spending much in January when we were dangerously close to relegation. And kept trotting out the line we never planned to get promoted when we did.Desmond Oulu said:We would be worth next to fuck all if we got relegated. I'm pretty sure the owners know that too so I think they'll do what they can to keep us up.1 -

Not read the rest of all comments but to my mind, if they let us sink back into League 1, they will never get their money back1

The counter is that he was aware, the owners have said they'll cover costs on a reduced budget and he still thought it worth the gambleNabySarr said:

Have to say I smelt bullshit regarding that. Never of course expected this news but how many times over the years have we been filled with expectation & then told we just couldn't get it over the line but we are pleased to announce that we have signed an out of contract crippled old man desperate for a wage.DDOUBLEE said:
Either he's blindsided by it or has just been talking complete bollocks. Especially with the comments about the midfielder and winger post Colchester. I think this is pretty much itClem_Snide said:My take, it’s news to the majority but yesterday’s chip wrapper to a few ITKs and the board themselves.
They have been after additional investment for an age and have continued to fund player signings, ground improvements and the overall wage bill while doing so. No indication they are doing a complete plug pull.
These are extremely wealthy men and you don’t accrue that sort of wealth through business without having your head screwed on. They will know what relegation will
do to the value of their asset.IMO this won’t affect whatever budget has been set for this season and we will continue to work within whatever that is.
You can only assume that someone isn’t happy that the new investment hasn’t been forthcoming and is trying to force the issue and or reach a wider audience. In the short term (this season) I am not concerned, however things could get a bit more seat of your pants if the status quo drags on.4 -

What potential do you mean? In the Championship we will be losing what, 15-20m per year?follett said:Well this is far from ideal.
The club has so much potential though, let’s hope any potential owners see that and we get someone decent and willing to invest
If we want to be challenging for promotion we need to spend even more on transfer fees.
I don't blame these or any owners that don't fancy that. Its well known Methven sold it to them with a ridiculously optimistic turnaround plan.
The business of football is a joke these days.
I get where you are coming from but these are clever people, they made their money through smart investments. But somehow they fell for that absolute nonsense CM prospectus... And they even did that whilst having life long fan, Gavin Carter join them as an investor. Of all.of them he should have been able to pull that prospectus to bits.
If an investor doesn't fancy the absolute financial carnage of UK football, then don't invest to start with.4 -

If I’d had it I would certainly have published it myself. I didn’t but the fact that they were approaching people to try to sell the club isn’t new.Bedsaddick said:

This is hardly a bolt from the blue, only real developments at The Valley have been the dug outs which are now mandatory and painting and renaming some lounges. Warrick's sudden departure was a bit of a warning sign. Without opening a can of worms we been far more proactive in recruitment for the women's team than the men's in relative but obviously not in financial terms. NJ did appear clearly frustrated after Saturday's debacle and despite initial annoyance that the Cheltenham game has become a friendly would now make a bit more sense. Obviously the partners have had a bit of a disagreement about how to take the club forward and possibly no compromise has been reached, so have decided hopefully on an amicable parting of the ways. Wouldn't fancy the gig managing the legal intricacies though. To think when I first saw Oakwell I thought it involved Barnsley...

Let us wait before behaving like lemmings and jumping off of a cliff in ingnorance of the facts.
1) We knew last Christmas that the owners were seeking fresh investment and a sales document was being prepared;
2 We have now heard from the Grauniad that a sales document has been prepaared which may or may not include a potential sale of the entire club;
3) Is this any different to wahat we heard in January.
Having been involved in many business sales and fundraising efforts to provide future growth for other businesses , you often dangle the carrot that there is an opportunity to buy the whole business either now or at a future date if the potential investor buys 20% at an increased valuaation of the business. What you are looking to find is someone with deep pockets to to buy a stake in Global Football partners that reduces your risk but leaves you in control, but if they want to buy the lot at a vastly inflated price, so be it.
The Grauniad often gets the wrong end of the stick and goes for the sensational. The mistake here is that they approached the club rather than GFP and the club will have little understanding of the detail so didn't comment. Grauniad ups the speculation another notch - it is hardly the Fnancial Times and this is a business transaction, not their strong point. (Even the FT gets it wrong and they are supposed to be the wise financial heads.
Am I worried? No. This seems to me a sales pitch to get more investment into the parent company and spread the risk of the owners in delivering growth. If it turns into a full blown sale then the buyers will have to have deeper pockets than the current owners and a greater appetite for risk so would probably improve the outcome for the club.
This is not the duck tape king shedding the liabilities but retaining the fixed assets in trick sale to a thick wanabe ex football agent, this sounds like a level headed approach to gaining more investment in the business without neccessarily losing control.
So, stop wasting energy in running around like headless chickens speculating about a half baked newspaper article, wait until the facts are clear. I doubt that the sky is actually falling in or that aliens in salmon pink trousers are hiding out in the old caves under Blackheath. Time will tell and if you see me running along Floyd Road screaming fire then join me in the panic. The current owners appear to be sensible business men raising funds, not Donald Trump "doing a deal" with Iran.29
