I wonder if the new efl spending rules have contributed to our owners ‘going cold’. We were low down on the list of Championship spenders anyway and the new rules have just exacerbated that position further. Our owners could have looked at this and thought ‘even if we spend to the max we cannot hope to compete for promotion so what’s the point. Let’s cut our losses.’

I’m not sure I’ve ever bought that they were in it for the long term. For a medium size club we were relatively cheap to buy as there are no property assets (ground/training ground) which makes us very attractive to even shorter term investors than football normally attracts. Jones and the players have done a great job in getting us up to the Championship and keeping us there but the lack of ownership of the property is always going to be a significant weakness which comes home to roost every 3 years or so when owners realise there is no fast buck.

The article may be exaggerated somewhat and hopefully Jones has a bit more money to spend to at least give us a chance of being competitive in holding our place in the division. But, no smoke without fire, the warning signs are there - we’ve seen them several times. I’m bracing myself for a very tough ride.
Great point! Not owning any property assets means we’re open to crooks buying us on the cheap and asset stripping. We’ve already been there before. We’ve been relatively lucky to have these owners. I also think the pink trousered one sold them a pup by claiming we were badly run (true) and could be run for £1-2m losses a year (fantasy). I see Charlie is on a podcast now, claiming to be an expert about the business of football.
Given that you’ve highlighted that the clubs key asset is not actually owned by the club, what assets could be stripped? How would this even offset the cost required to purchase the club, let alone run a profit for the envisaged asset stripper?
If the owners think they will have to shell out a lot more money just to retain its value and the offers coming in are not as high as they first thought then they could just offload it for a nominal fee, just like Roland did. Without the security of a stadium anyone could buy it for a £1 and start selling the players. They wouldn’t need to pass the directors test to buy the company and start taking money out of the club. This is exactly what happened with Southall.

I assume even if they do release a statement Jones will still be questioned around the latest developments when he does his pre-match media for the Cheltenham game.

However feels very harsh if nothing comes out from the club around and Jones has to field the questions without any further context.

Could be good news if the owners pockets aren’t deep enough.

Or could be totally destabilising ie player contracts not getting renewed, the timing is awful.
Please inform me, I'm not up to speed. I thought there was a collection of extremely rich investors who were the owners? the kind that the current losses (circa £15million) are small change.

I think its more likely as an opportunity for them to move on as they have lost interest.
    (Maybe they watched a match)

Many Charlton fans have gone off the deep end, but you shouldn't treat everything that you read in the papers as gospel.
No, no, no, according to most on here last night that's exactly what we should do.

I suppose professional football is a business.
However football is also, or principally, a sport.
A club in a locale is these days a community asset and focus.
Maybe the concinnity of it all is better described, as Lyle Taylor might say, as a ‘brand’.
It must in the end all come down to the balance sheet I suppose, which reinforces the ‘being a business’ above other aspects of a football club.
That has been the reality for Bury FC hasn’t it? And yet and yet Bury FC survives. The average attendance at Gigg Lane last season was 3,700.
    Doesn't even rhyme.

These Americans owners don't have Charlton in their heart anyway.

Here before you, and long after you're gone.

    You are, of course, correct.
But how many successful clubs have owners who are die hard fans? Very, very few I would suggest.
Can only really think of Brighton , Brentford and Boro. The days of the local boy done good that grew up on the terraces and then owning the club one day are gone.

    I would add Stoke!
They're after Harry Clarke for £3.5 mill so I've read somewhere...🙄

No way Jose did I believe I would see the word concinnity on Charlton Life.
I have heard the word used in the art and literary world but "the skilful and harmonious arrangement or fitting together of the different parts of something" I didn't expect to crop up on here.
I just had to google if it was a real word, as I spent five minutes trying to work out what word he meant to type !!
Amazing what you can learn on this site. I have been informed by it as well.

Madness to think this ownership group would consider selling the club for £1.

I have just been down the valley, it is looking in sorry state, in fact I actually think it is a disgrace how it is looking. Any potential buyers and players, it certainly doesn’t look great. That fanzone is a total eyesore, fence and branding all over the place, rubbish everywhere, bench broke, Astroturf pulling up. The amount of old machinery and rubbish just left outside the west stand.
Power DB’s and Ramps left open, is a danger.

It was all very disappointing, and if I was player being shown around, wouldn’t have been impressed.

Well considering our number 1 target this summer is valued at 3.5M, a backup fullback going for 3.5M does seem slightly extreme.

I would say Ramsay is better than Clarke and I would have happily let him go if someone offered us that much

    That’s not a statement.

No-one is saying that's the statement though

In fact if you read what it says, it sounds like the board are going to issue a statement in the near future anyway

Then put that on the main page.

This is a lack of transparency and it’s not good enough

Our womens team did great getting promoted, but this is going to cost a lot of money.I see we are signing plenty of players and I wish them every success, but how do we cover the added cost.I cannot see us getting the 5 figure crowds that the established side get,i dont know what the ladies wage structure is,but with the projected cost of us staying in the championship I wonder if the combined costs may just have sparked a bit of concern .
They've signed one more player than the men and will be on a fraction of the wage. They also bring in £4m or so in TV money, that's where the money for the new signings will be coming from
Thats a lot of money, didnt realise it was that much,if they get half decent crowds will probably be more financially viable than the men.

Depends on who they contacted, did they go to the owners themselves or some random guy in the offices?
