Had a cracking week. Think it’s 5 times in 6 years we’ve stayed at this park in Weymouth and absolutely love it down that way. Managed to do someone different to what we’ve done previously practically every day.AFKABartram said:Some amazing trips on this thread, always a great read.

The city is quite run down now. The arch is fantastic but that’s about it. There are a couple of nice areas, like the Hill, which is a little Italy with some lovely restaurants and bars, but you need to get a cab from downtown to reach them. A couple of nights is really all you need there.cafcnick1992 said:

Just on the way back from a European road tour with a couple of good friends.
We've stayed in Heidelberg, Munich, Bled, Budapest, Eger and Prague. Brilliant holiday as we all get on and one of the friends is from BP and makes sure we get our cultural experiences before we hit the bars, so it's not all beer and schnitzels.
High points include Bled in Slovenia, which is beautiful, Slovenia is the cleanest country I've ever seen. Food is excellent, beer is cheap and almost everybody speaks impressively decent English.
Took a tour of a salt mine in Salzburg, visited Hitler's mountain house 'The Eagles Nest', a boat trip around Konigssee, a gorge trail near Bled and a couple of days in the wine region in Eger for, ahem, tastings.
Sadly Prague was only 24 hours for me so I will return early next year to experience a bit more than the Kafka museum and pilsner urquell. First time there and I loved it.

If you're ever in Lisbon, it's a great idea to take the short uber / train ride to Sintra, Colares, etc. I have a friend who lives around there and it's beautiful coastline and villages and some world-class seafood. I particularly recommend Bar do Fundo and Restaurante da Adraga.1

Currently in Montreux for the Freddie Mercury celebration. He would have been 80 today. Queen music nonstop with some very good cover bands.

Mexican food is dross.Could easily be described as baby food.
Ideal if you are on a return flight on Turkish Airlines and you are bedding in a new set of gnashers1 -

Apologies to anyone who already knows this, but in case there is anyone who doesn't:For those of you who aren't aware, be careful in Portugal (and possibly other places) when paying for things with a card.It is always better to chose paying in the local currency (than in pounds) BUT we discovered recently in Portugal that you are then asked to accept or reject the exchange rate. We thought that meant you are accepting the necessary exchange rate from Euros to GBP on your credit card statement BUT what actually happens if you press accept the conversion, is that you then pay in pounds even though you have previously chosen Euros i.e. local currency - which is at a much worse exchange rate.This is clearly done to scam the payer into paying a worse rate.So, in our experience, if you want to pay in Euros (or whatever the local currency is), select Euros then chose to decline the next option to accept the conversion rate, then you will pay in Euros and get a better rate.Another tip is to always make sure the transaction has compeleted before handing the card machine back - in this example you might think selecting to pay in Euros was all you needed to do, but if you handed the card machine back then, the retailer could then select to accept the conversion on your behalf to get paid a higher amount and you'd be none the wiserThis is a known 'scam' and on things like MoneySavingExpert but not something most people would necessarily read about if you're not expecting to check for it, so posting our experience in case it helps others3

Benidorm for 3 nights this Friday to celebrate 2 60ths and one 50th (all addicks). Not sure I’ll last the pace for 3 days and definitely won’t be matching a lot of the group drink for drink!0
