No Rehan Ahmed. Why does Bashir keep kept selected? I thought Stokes and McCullum both left? No Bethell👍.Pope back at 3? I dont mind that.0

Bethell is injured and seems to be a suggestion that Curran is carrying a slight knock so was not available either. Would have been interesting to see if he had been included if fully fit.0

Lawrence, Pope and Bashir isn't exactly screaming new ideas.
Hoping when Fleming takes over maybe they'll be a bit more of a rethink than this.0 -
One of the recent criticisms is that county form hasn't been taken into consideration by the selectors, Lawrence is top scorer this year so I do think he deserves another shot. Coupled with that he can bowl to a reasonable standard for a few overs.
There is a huge lack of experience in this side so I do think you can make an argument for Ollie's inclusion as well, he was vice captain until recently and clearly has a lot of experience so I'm not against it. It does seem pretty clear that he is unlikely to get a game unless there are injuries.
Bashir is a puzzling one, there was a lot of suggestion he was a pet project of Stokes/Mccullum and with recent changes I was pretty certain he would fall out of the picture. The old argument around lack of spinners is a fair one but surely there are other options out there who deserve a shot.0 -
North has said that, despite Fleming not being around, he has had a major input so far as this squad is concerned.North Lower Neil said:Lawrence, Pope and Bashir isn't exactly screaming new ideas.

I suspect what we are seeing right now is a "beauty pageant" so far as central contracts are concerned. As I keep saying, I do believe in their current format that they have had their day but Bashir, for example, could legitimately argue that he hasn't been given a chance to earn a new one - just two games for England in the last 12 months. If he does well, he earns himself a new one but if he doesn't then the door opens for others to be given the opportunity albeit without a central contract unless they turn to Rehan Ahmed for example.0 -
I think these 3 tests will be huge for Bashir.
If he fails to impress it must be time for a change0 -
Especially after such a hot summer. You’d expect a bit more turn than the average summer surely?blackpool72 said:I think these 3 tests will be huge for Bashir.

The return of Test cricket at least guarantees us some much needed rain9

Weird why it's been reduced to a 3 day game. Is 4 days of preparation too much for a modern touring team?0

Rumours that England will pick Lawrence as the "Spinning alrounder" with 4 quicks. Surely fecking not?!?!
It hasn't rained for 3 bloody months and that's the best we can do? I'm no fan of Bashir but he has to play. Surely. If not now then when?0 -
It's clear that, without Stokes, they are reluctant to go in with three quicks and Bashir. That said, one suspects that the decision on Bashir will ultimately be based on his performance for the PCA. "England's number one spinner" has bowled just 16 overs (all in the one-day cup) in the last seven weeks.cantersaddick said:Rumours that England will pick Lawrence as the "Spinning alrounder" with 4 quicks. Sure the squad selection is all wrong then. Sam Curran and Rehan Ahmed would both be options to balance the side better. Rehan might go for a few but do we really think Lawrence and his ridiculous action will go for less? come on!Addick Addict said:

Rehan Ahmed I agree.1 -
I'm not disagreeing about Lawrence's selection - 9 wickets this season at 71.33 in the CC says it all. North has already said that Curran would have been picked but for the injury he is carrying and should be fit for the third Test:cantersaddick said:

"He'd be in the squad, I would have thought, and that would give us that option of either playing Sam Curran at No. 6 or 7 if we felt that was the right balance, or going with six [specialist] batters and [Jamie] Smith."
There's something about Rehan that, for whatever reason, they don't trust. He's never been given a decent run at it.2 -
Curran isn’t good enough with bat or ball for test cricket .cantersaddick said:

Stumps day 1 in Darwin. Aussies all out 198. Bangladesh 96/1 in reply.2

Stumps day 2 in Darwin. Australia 198 all out. Bangladesh 351/6.2

Yes Australia were more motivated and mentally prepared for the Ashes, but Bangladesh are horribly showing up how pathetic we were last winter.1

I think that I might have said this before. Going all the way back to the 50 over World Cup in 2023. "We don't plan to fail......."killerandflash said:Yes Australia were more motivated and mentally prepared for the Ashes, but Bangladesh are horribly showing up how pathetic we were last winter.0 -
It's interesting to note that the Bangladesh preparation for this Test was an embarrassing innings thrashing, being rolled over for 54 by a Cricket Australia XI. Campbell Thompson, having played only one first class game in his career, took 8-22 in the Bangladesh second innings.killerandflash said:Yes Australia were more motivated and mentally prepared for the Ashes, but Bangladesh are horribly showing up how pathetic we were last winter.0 -
I see this weather is going to break next week with rain due Wed.
If course it does.....that's when the 1st Test starts 🙄0 -
Well put away Bangladesh, easy opposition on paper but you still have to finish the job2
-
Pretty comprehensive in the end, winning by nine wickets.
Aus 198 & 284
Ban 426 & 57-11 -
