Finding a future England international owned by a League Two club is understandably tricky, but in Mbick, we have a player who seriously impressed at that level last season. The question, ‘Can a teenage striker who has been prolific in youth football handle the fourth tier’s physicality?’ was answered quite emphatically: yes.
The Charlton youngster was on loan at the Cowleys’ Colchester, where he impressed straightaway. No, really, straightaway – here’s Danny Cowley after the 18-year-old made his debut:
“He trained with us only on Thursday and Friday, and a couple of senior [players] said to me, ‘That’s the best training debut I’ve ever seen’. I think he scored six goals and made four assists.”
Mbick went on to score nine competitive goals and assist another two, across 1,650 minutes (or 18.3 full 90s). As eye-catching as his goal threat was the way he used his body, offering strength in the tackle – sometimes too much, given he averaged three fouls per game – and in holding off defenders. His combination of guile and power allowed him to complete the second-most dribbles per 90 in League Two, with a remarkable 61% success rate.
It’s uncertain what 2026/27 will hold. Mbick is recovering from a bad knee injury and Charlton have eight strikers contracted, with Nathan Jones hinting at more to come. The striker’s long-term future, though, looks extremely bright.

We have to hope the injury hasn't set him back. If you want top strikers and midfielders etc... you have to produce them if you are Charlton. We pat ourselves on the back regarding our academy but it has to produce these higher level players not high end League One players.8

Think he was pretty much on his way to Brighton before the injury happened, wouldn’t be surprised if they come in again before the transfer window closes, if he makes a good start. He actually followed Brighton on socials before unfollowing them again so it must have been as close as it could have got3

I’m really hoping Micah gets even 10 minutes tomorrow as I’d love to see what he can do in next few games. Hopefully he pushes Godden and Leaburn for a role in the first few weeks and if he’s not I’m sure he’ll get an L1 loan to further his progression.1

I don’t think he’s going anywhere this month. It’s in his and the club’s interest to be patient and not judge him on what happens this month. It makes no sense to loan him out, as he's under 21 and good enough to be a backup player.
There's no point having an academy, unless you give young players a chance in this division. If a player shows they can hack it in the Championship, their value rockets. And giving players first team chances in this division is an incentive for 15 year olds to stay with us, and not jump ship to a Big 6 academy.13 -
I think this is a good big shout. I don't know that I agree with it, because I personally think we're going to see Miles put it together a lot more this season, but I think Mbick might have the highest upside of anyone in the squad. Would be great if he presses on this season, cements a first team space, scores a tonne of goals then we make a serious £wedge on him next summer. Would also help when persuading young academy players to stay with us and sign rather than dollying off to a PL club at 15/16 years old.1

Now is the time. Be a bit angrier and direct and be physically stronger than the defenders facing you. Be upset when you are beaten in the air or tackled.8
