Roy Race was going to sign in the late 60's from Melchester Rovers but after hearing the Charlton fans were underwhelmed and Michael Gliksten wouldn't pay him an extra £5 a week he changed his mind and left Sparrows lane without signing.
He had a career of 38 years from 1954 until 1993 and scored 481 club goals.
