What’s happened to Harvey Knibbs?
Remember the excitement of that winning goal in injury time in our first game back in the Championship last season? The photograph of an ecstatic Covered End with the goal scorer standing on the wall, arms outstretched? What we would give for something similar this Saturday. But what about the player who scored the goal? He’d be happy just to be playing. What has happened to Harvey Knibbs? He joined us with the reputation of a goal scoring attacking midfield player - exactly the type that we need. Surely the pre-season would have been the ideal time to give him another go? Has he fallen out with Jones? Is he not rated? Is he seen as a League One player who is not Championship material? He is often named on the bench but seldom called upon and now seems to have been relegated behind some promising younger players and newbies - yet he’s still on the books. What’s going on?

He's the outfield player with the highest number of minutes this preseason.19
-
He’s gotten loads of minutes in pre season and got rave reviews, including from Nathan Jones, to the point where it was a surprise to see Carey start in front of him on Saturday.3
-
I suspect we are currently caught between the two ‘needs’, that of needing to manage his minutes without injuring him and needing what little match time for those players who potentially will be ready to start on Saturday.1

Knibbs & Carey are vying for the same (no.10 - AMC) position.
Knibbs came to us late last season and without a pre-season IIRC.
The opening day late winner against Watford was a great moment, but Knibbs wasn't fit enough to start.
Carey got off to a flier with his goals & early season excellent link-up play with Apter....Blackpool connection was very noticeable.
Then Knibbs got injured and Carey went from strength to strength.
This season, I'm expecting more of a battle as @Desmond Oulu said, Knibbs has had the most pre-season friendly minutes.4 -
He played more than Carey in pre season . He’s never going to start ahead of Sonny v Derby hence why we didn’t see he Saturday.0
-
I think he might have started, but Carey needed the minutes on Saturday and now he’s played well and scored he will probably start against Derby. Before that I think Knibbs would have startedBedsaddick said:He played more than Carey in pre season . He’s never going to start ahead of Sonny v Derby hence why we didn’t see he Saturday.3 -
So want him to do well. Seems a likeable character.
Sadly the highlight so far has been singing his name for 10 minutes at Bristol City0 -
Yes, Knibbs has been a bit unlucky really. Carey played as he needed the minutes, did well and now probably owns the shirt. And with no midweek games for a while, Knibbs might struggle to get a start.NabySarr said:

He got injured early on last season didn't he. Hopefully he can show us what all the excitement was about last summer this year.1

Met Knibbs over the summer with two other first teamers.
It was notable that he went around the group and shock hands with everyone while introducing himself.
As said, he's now fit and Carey has some competition which is good for Sonny and the club.4 -

It’ll be interesting to see how it works going forward, Sonny has to start, top scorer last season and already off the mark with a goal and assist. It will provide sonny a break when he needs it as towards the end of last season he did become slightly ineffective0

What a strange old opening post. Almost like someone has an angle/agenda they're trying to push.
No idea what it is though.2 -
Knibbs for me has been the standout player pre season. I thought he would start for sure at the weekend but I guess Carey needed minutes. After the goal I suspect Carey will start on Saturday but if so Knibbs can consider himself very unlucky1

Of someone looking for a stick to beat the club with? Testing the waters before going postal? There seems to be enough on here with that agenda...Off_it said:What a strange old opening post. Almost like someone has an angle/agenda they're trying to push.

NJ did him dirty last season. Knibbs was second top scorer in the squad, and yet when Carey wasn't playing, NJ opted to start Luke Berry for three games in a row. I don't think Harvey ever got the same opportunity.

Last season he was a bit anonymous during games. He looked better in pre-season.0

Didn't help that Harvey joined under a cloud with the injury, didn't the deal fail at one point because something came up in the Medical... He didn't get a proper pre-season with us, and just didn't look fit when he made any appearances.Chunes said:NJ did him dirty last season. When he finally started to settle, that Sheff Utd prick injured him2 -
That's 3 games now where Knibbs has failed to get a single minute, despite us making plenty of subs. He can't be happy.2

Long season - he will get his chance and I’m sure of it.killerandflash said:That's 3 games now where Knibbs has failed to get a single minute, despite us making plenty of subs. He can't be happy.6 -
If the game state means we are going for a goal then he will be the sub that comes on for Carey. But that hasn’t really happened yet so we’ve brought Costello/Mwamba on insteadkillerandflash said:That's 3 games now where Knibbs has failed to get a single minute, despite us making plenty of subs. I thought we could have done with more legs in midfield so would have brought him on today, but we won so Jones decision worked fine
He will start on Wednesday, and if he plays well he might even be able to force himself into the conversation to start over Carey3 -

Spurs on Wed night. I expect to see a few changes with Knibbs being one of them.8

He could have come on instead of Mbick, and instead of Costello today.NabySarr said:

Last week when Carey came off, we were 1-0 down, but instead Alli came on and Karlan moved to the 10 position.0 -

He should be ahead of Carey at the moment8

His celebrations at the end of both games show what a classy pro he is. I think/hope he feels his time will come. I definitely wouldn’t let him go.killerandflash said:That's 3 games now where Knibbs has failed to get a single minute, despite us making plenty of subs. He can't be happy.7 -
Just game circumstances at the moment, he will get his chance.3

I think he’ll play Wednesday3

Probably not but he did look really happy in the final whistle scenes with TC.killerandflash said:That's 3 games now where Knibbs has failed to get a single minute, despite us making plenty of subs. He can't be happy.1 -
Yeah I reckon 4/5 changes and Knibbs will be oneElthamaddick said:I think he’ll play Wednesday0 -
Why? I dont think knibbs is as good as carey enough to get into the same positions at this level. Carey can bring the ball up the pitch, just needs to improve decision making. Hence probably why jones picks him above knibbs.RonnieMoore said:He should be ahead of Carey at the moment0
