He was top scorer last year and all was going well, then he got an England squad call up and the calls started ……….. he’s from a great family who have their heads firmly screwed on. Shame to lose him but cat 1 does give him more opportunities.

I’m surprised clubs like ours aren’t more willing to go public, strongly, with criticism of the system. It gets to the limit where if you’re never going to see another Gomez level player then what’s the point? And you feel that if a club like ours said we’d shut our academy under the pressure it’s a wake up call

I have a real disdain for these type instagram accounts (talenthunter, risingballers etc) that seek to highlight youth talent, they are often just trying to get a scoop before anyone else and don't really care about promoting talent etc. They have no real consideration for the wellbeing put on these kids.

Obviously I hope all these kids realise their dreams and become professional footballers but even those heradled at 14/15/16 years old will unlikely go on to have a professional career of note (if any) and these accounts that used them as content will not be there at 18/19 to help them pick up the pieces of these young men who have often neglected academic studies or altenative career paths.

That was an absolute shambles , believe Brentford brought the ground in the end and their B Team play there?

You could be right. I certainly saw our U21s lose there season before last, where our promising youngsters (inc Fullah) got totally bullied by the Bees. Dixon our only bright spot.

Very disappointing but no guarantee the poached lads will make it. Strange that all the top scouts knew about Lookman but we were the only team to take a chance due to his size.

The only way this will stop is if all the championship/ league one/ league two owners come out with a statement, that they will not be using clubs that hoover up talent for loans as a way of saying "you can have the players but we won't help develop them". Obviously won't happen as it would require a high level of trust, which won't happen when money is involved. Or even go as far to blacklist said players until say 25 to make players think twice about it. Again won't happen for obvious reasons.

We get compensation but it will be peanuts compared to what he will go for in the future if his next club don’t ruin his development

I've said it before, but players who leave clubs before signing a contract should have to pay a % of future earnings as a player to the club imo.

Would make them think harder about the decision. Otherwise so many academies outside the PL will become unviable.

The pillaging of academies gets worse every year and has now become a PL wide business plan which maintains the status quo of teams.

Don’t think you can really blame a 15-16 year old kid.

It’s the whole compensation package that is the problem. Clubs should be able to sell on their terms not just have to roll over and take it.

The club that are getting the player should have to be substantially more at the point of transfer. The onus should be on the clubs the players are going to to have to be certain that the player is one for the future and the best way to do that is to increase compensation packages to such a degree that it becomes almost unviable to take punts on players
