They’ve never worked for me in the past when it’s been tested - so I was wondering wtf was going on

Yeah, made me jump that. Wildfires no joke though, good to get in a state of alert and remember about all that

Maybe should've sent it before the heatwave and the wildfires, rather than after the fact....

Think emergency alerts should be more 'there is a wildfire in your area' and keep the warnings to press briefings.

At which point everyone would have accused them of over-reacting.

Am I right in thinking it hadn't been announced there would be an alert? in which case it was very effective in making me realise we are in a real situation.

Made me jump. I've recently started wearing hearing aids and they are linked to my phone.

Hope this will make people realise the desperate situation we are in

Kind of the point is not to tell people, it’s a call to action, or you’re all goi f to die

I think the others have only ever been tests which is why there was pre warning. This is the first real deal one to my knowledge

A lot of people don't take any notice of press briefings though, and view them as boring, this would have reached everyone.

To be fair sending it on Friday night right before a weekend where thousands of people are probably planning a BBQ is smart thinking.

Not fun when you're putting an 18 month old to bed and they're just nodding off..

Same her, but mine lit the touchpaper of the firework display I had planned for later this evening.
That has spoilt my family get together somewhat.

Going to wait for BBQ-gate when an MP is caught at a BBQ this weekend.

We’re in a theatre and they are going off all over the place. Hopefully we won’t have the performance interrupted by them. It’s not as if any one is lighting bbq’s in here.

Don't think areas in drought are expecting significant rain anytime soon though, so the wildfire risk is still high.
