On a positive note; a question. How do I get to meet some of you mysterious shady characters? Want to go to more games when I'm up at uni and meet some Charlton fans 'irl' as they say. Unfortunately my generation, for the most part, hasn't quite cracked actually speaking to real life people, rather than usernames on a screen.
Going to more games AND meeting some of the peeps on here, jeez are you sure?! ;)

To all the team on here congratulations, by far the best forum on the internet, Happy Birthday.

    I'm also a 2012 newbie. When this site celebrates its 40th anniversary, I'll still be a 2012 newbie  :D

When you look at other club forums, you realise how good this one is. The volume of traffic, the detail in the comments, the variety of topics, but also the layout and readability, and the speed of navigation.

    Thanks.

I sense that we are a whisker away from a Charlton Life 'Hall of Fame' suggestion.

    Come on, Henry.
Thanks for the nomination but i'm sure there are more worthy winners. Can't think who right now though

MsAA was asked by a young woman to do an interview about internet dating. She pointed out that this would be pretty pointless because we met before Internet dating existed and, she was keen to point out when she got home, she hasn’t been on a date since we met.  This young woman was, MsAA attests, absolutely gorgeous and, at 22 years old, she had never been on a date. There were questions about the “third room” (no, I didn’t have a clue either) and it transpires actually talking to random people in real life is a big no-no. No wonder she’s never been on a date. (Also, of course, she’s never run into a serial killer).
  • So happy I found this site; I don’t even remember how back in 2012! Whenever I look at other teams forums after games I think that this is streets ahead.

Thanks to everyone who contributes - many hours spent on trains etc etc etc and it’s kept me occupied, informed and mainly laughing for years. Great community.

Thanks to Lookout and also someone I can call a mate, which is bizarre off a website, in AFKA.

    Cheers 👍
Yes, is how you authenticate that you’re REAL Charlton.
Shit. Didn’t even think of that 😂

Relative newbie here myself but I must of clocked up some hours reading threads from over the years.

Thank you for those that set this up and also those that enable it to run in the manner that it does.

    @JohnBoyUK but we forgive them

However I think we should all make a pact that if we get promoted*. ever. that we all meet up for the mother of all piss-ups, and I don't even drink.

That should cover us ever having to actually do it.

I didn’t grow up anywhere near Charlton so this site has been a great way for me to interact with the Charlton community and I visit most days (although don’t always post).

Also a great way to pass time through what can often be a monotonous and lonely world working from home full time so thank you

Pretty sure I joined day one…

Massive congrats to AFKA and Lookout for all that’s been achieved it’s a fantastic forum, more oddballs and WUM’s than we’d all like but that’s life in general I suppose, most on here seem pretty sound and it’s what a forum should be about

    Here’s to the next 20 👍

If the appetite is there I’d be more than happy to try and organise a meet up for younger users (although I’m not sure I count as younger myself anymore as I’m 29 and tbh anyone is welcome not just the younger generation) as I myself would like to meet more Charlton fans irl

Gotta say, that ChatGPT assessment AFKA posted nails it for me. Those platforms are good at that sort of thing. Nothing that you couldn't probably line up to say yourself but you'd take ages , miss something, and it wouldn't be so clear and well structured.

And in the end that's all down to the moderators who have put in the hard yards over the 20  years, they are the ones who've made it such a class act, despite our best efforts to drive them nuts. Thank you all, you've created something that really has become part of our lives, and keeps so many people connected. Honestly I reckon AFKA and Lookie deserve MBEs or something similar.
  • This is social media as it should be, so thank you posters, but specially moderators.

Happy birthday CL. I wish I could give back as much as I get out of the forum 👍

Joined at some point in August 2006 from Netaddicks. Glad to see many still here from back then plus new members.

My family despairs of the time I spend on here but it is a community even though opinions differ on many topics both football and non football related. Despite 20 years of posting still pressed the wrong key necessitating an edit.

Thanks to AFKA and Lookie plus all that post, run the competitions and moderate.

    🎂 Some past commemorations:
    15th Birthday
    10th Birthday
    4th Birthday
    100th User

💸 On Fundraising over the years, there’s just too much to summarise. But here’s some highlights:

We held a day of football at the Valley:
    1. The genesis: Demelza House Charity Football Match
    2. The squads

    total in the first year

History of the Charlton Life Kit Sponsorships

🪽And lastly, we’ve lost a lot of friends along the way. Unfortunately, too many to list here but please feel free to add links in the comments.
    🍻RIP Charlton Lifers.

I too joined 18th August 2006. Charlton Life is the only social media I’m on. It’s like being a member of one big, sometimes weird, family. I’m on here so much my wife asks if I’ve said goodnight to my cyber mates each night. I’ve known @AFKABartram for years, had a good chat on Saturday, never met @LoOkOuT to my knowledge but thanks to them both for initiating Charlton Life twenty years ago, couldn’t imagine where we’d all be without it.

    Happy 20th Charlton Life !!

I was first told about Charlton Life at the Arsenal away game in January 2007 (the first time we played at the Emirates – we lost 4–0). @AFKABartram told me about it before the game

Huge thanks to AFKA and Lookie for setting this up. And to mods who keep it running.

This place helped re-kindle my love for Charlton and form a much better connection to the place. I joined when I was at uni in 2014 so been here for more than half its existance.

AFKA personally set up a meet up for some of us "Yoof" a few years back and now I have to speak to @Addickted2TheReds occasionally. Though hes got easier to avoid of late!

Finally apologies to admin for all the extra hours of work!
