Our tricky fixtures at the start are now looking quite good, I think a Leaburn goal will give him so much confidence, he is doing some real good work at the moment. Just can’t stop looking for updates at the moment, surely not many of us saw this start to the season, well I certainly didn’t I will admit.5

Charlton knew how to cope with that and we didn’t.I don’t like commenting on Max Kilman because he gets a lot of internet stick. A quite marvellous day and one that will live long in the memory.
Pre-match, we had a couple of pints and a pub lunch in The Pilot near North Greenwich Station. We met our friends who had just received news of the birth of their first grandchild (another Charlton supporter in the pipeline), so it was joy unconfined. This clearly had the makings of a red-letter day - and so it proved.
After traipsing through the interminable shopping centre, we took our assorted places in the Upper Tier and the view was better than I had anticipated, although I had no idea who scored the first goal. I thought the West Ham supporters were perfectly amicable pre and post-match, although my mate thought that the club didn't deign to announce our line up. I didn't notice to be honest but, if that's correct, it's very poor. They certainly know who we are now.
It was an exceptionally disciplined performance and our lads worked extremely hard from the first minute to the last to implement the game plan, which they did to an absolute t. We were excellent defensively and carried a consistent threat on the break through the pace of TC, Leaburn and Grant. We were particularly strong in the first half and by far the better and more incisive side. That pattern continued early into the second period and, whilst West Ham applied heavy pressure in the last 20 minutes, particularly after they pulled a goal back, we ran out deserved winners.
Quite how the BBC came up with an XG of 2.96 for West Ham and 0.57 for us, I do not understand. Their statistics give a misleading impression that this win was a smash and grab, which it categorically was not - https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/live/cw77g0zdlzj4t#MatchStats At least the commentator on the EFL Highlight show was clear that Charlton were worthy winners.
We know that West Ham are in a different stratosphere financially, but it's interesting to reflect upon the cost in transfer fees of the respective teams. Discounting for present purposes loan fees (and I believe Piroe's is £4 million, with a further £8 million obligation to buy), West Ham's starting 11 cost just under £150 million: Kilman £40.5 million; Valentín "Taty" Castellanos £25 million (£25 million !); Arne Engels: £22 million, a Championship record; Jarrod Bowen: £22 million; Konstantinos Mavropanos £17 million (bullied by Miles); Mads Hermansen: £16.3 million; and Manor Solomon £5 million.
In contrast, only one of our starting 11 cost a transfer fee - Billy Koumetio, who reportedly cost £500,00. In addition, 2 of our 3 substitutes were Academy teenagers. Definitely a performance to be proud of.
A few post-match noggins in the River Ale House was the perfect way to celebrate a memorable 3 points.

What a Result, What a Performance!
What an Atmosphere, What a Day!
Wasn’t expecting that victory in the slightest.
Shows how vital it is to score the first goal.Jones, Campbell & Leaburn the standouts.
Everyone contributed & did their bit though.
Could have easily scored more with some better decision making from Carey & KAG.
Only thing I will say is that I’m not convinced that Mbick is up to this level at the moment.2 -
West Ham had 73% possession but didn’t have any cutting edge and paid for it. Ours was a rearguard action in the main that still offered threat. I’m still confident that come the end of the season they will be there or there abouts. If they had played with the urgency of the last twenty minutes throughout I think we would have struggled to contain them. But the fact is they didn’t. We did a job on them. The substitutions made were us bringing on academy graduates and them bringing in multi million pound signings. The difference in squad valuations would be enormous . We beat them fair and square. We’ve come a long way very quickly. Further to go.

Mate I’m sure you probably want to let it be so sorry to bring it up again, just wanted to say after you’d put the situation out there prior to the blog it was obvious it effected you, however please don’t let that happen again due to the absolute minority. Nothing puts a smile on peoples faces more than seeing someone else happy, being a bit silly and enjoying themselves, that’s why I watch the blogs with the added bonus it’s about Charlton, what you do may not be everyone’s cup of tea, that’s fine,but that’s all that has to be said, not the apparent shit you dealt with. Atmosphere from home fans was very quiet apart from when they scored.
Almost impossible to generate a good noise from the away end because the roof is so high.
West Ham fans couldn't have been nicer, it was like going to the theatre.2 -

The only noise from the home fans was after they scored. Quite a few started leaving after 87 minutes.
Popped into Westfield afterwards, quite a few Happy Hammers there. You didn't have a massive shopping centre next to the Boleyn, all hail the porn kings for moving West Ham...
The nearest drinking establishment we found next to the ground after the game was a bar designed for people in fancy dress gearing up for ABBA Voyage. A far cry from the Upton Park days of East End boozers and pie and mash!5
